Super helpful, thank you! I have a bunch of rivets to remove from inside a van I just bought and if I were to blindly drill through, my van would be left with a load of tiny holes in its walls and ceilings... this is the first workable solution I've seen, thank you so much for sharing 🙏
thank you. Never too old to learn new tricks. 71 here and didn't pickup a tool besides screwdrivers, hammers and wrenches until I retired. Now it's all sorts of tools including rivet gun. Just learning and put in my first rivet yesterday. A drift boat webbing seat attached with a rivet. I'l need to redo my floorboards in the spring and it's riveted in with dozens of rivets. I can see that'll I'll need to purchase a drift. Thank you for teaching me what that I and how to remove what I suspect will be a bunch of stubborn pesky rivets
Thanks for the video - I can tell you, your method is the best one that worked. It also doesn't need any special tools. This is also an important consideration since I am DIY guy and not a professional. So I can't afford to buy special tools just for a once in random situations. Thanks and keep sharing your wisdom.
Gold! Just what I needed when pressed for time. Straight to the point. I was tasked with organizing a junk haul, and one metal shelving piece would not be picked up unless the unit was fully disassembled. Could not figure out how to separate the rivited shelves. Found this video. Thank you. You are a good to-the-point teacher.
Working on getting my dirt bikes exhaust rivets out and I wish I watched this before I drilled through the middle of them. I have half them left in but I'm gonna give the punch idea a try
That’s great in ideal circumstances, although I’m trying to remove 23 year old rivets from a boat. The holes are no longer there and I don’t have access to the back of the rivet. I got 2 out really easily but the others I’ve tried are leaving the back of the river in the hole. I’ve tried drilling with a larger drill bit but the rivet just spins in the hole now. Any other tips??
Hi, I am darn new to working with automotive rivets. The rivets I am working with have a steel exterior collar (what you see on the outside of the rivet). These must have a different removal process?(remember the most silly (stupid) questions, are the ones that are NOT asked). Thanks.
I like your method to remove a rivet. But in some cases it is not possible to get the rivet to an anvil and driving out the metal insert will just bend the metal around the rivet. How would you approach these rivets?
Well done video, Thanks. I was thinking that this would be the way to go but I always check TH-cam before trying something for the first time to avoid possible embarrassment. Some of the videos on this subject look like they are butchering the original hole by trying to drill the steel pin. If i had a bunch to do I would make a drift bit for my pneumatic chisel. That should make quick work of it.
Trying to drill guitar case hinge rivets (they're small)., the drill keeps slipping off the head of the rivet. any special drift you called it? I can get?
my guitar case hinges have rivets and I have broken drill bits and whatever you call that punch, they break in half... you can't drill a round surface everything. just slips right off, been working this for weeks now...
I don’t know. I’d have to see what they look like. Are they made of aluminum? If you know the manufacturer of the bed wood kit, might be better to call them and see what they suggest.
Excellent technique for a small piece that can be placed on a vice. But for pop riveted fender flares on a 66 Mustang without banging dents into the body? Hmmmmm?

This is precisely what the internet is for when it’s at its best. Your video helped me and made my job simpler. Thanks

I'm sure glad I watched this video before I started pop rivet removal! An EXCELLENT presentation, clear, concise and informative. Thanks!
Thanks for the tip, used this in a completely different situation getting some old rivets out of a scaffolding hatch to replace the wood :)
Thanks! This was exactly what I needed to learn. I appreciate you sharing this knowledge. Anything worth doing, is worth doing right!
Looking for something completely unrelated, but this is good info. I’ll remember this. Thanks man
Thank you for this. Simple, but I didn't think about punching out the harder rivet pin. You da man!

very helpful, had some genius use rivets driven through my bumper plastic, needed them out to replace the piece.

Really don’t know. I’d have to see what that situation looked like. If the rivet went in, there will be a way to remove it.
Thank You!
watched a few videos on this, and this one is definitely the one!
thanks again!!
Nice! Glad it was helpful!

Trying to drill guitar case hinge rivets (they're small)., the drill keeps slipping off the head of the rivet. any special drift you called it? I can get?
What item you use to knock the rivet after by using the drill?
great video. Most people dont know this.
I worked with someone this past week and he removed a few pop rivets by drilling them right out. lol Trashed the holes. 🤦
What to do if there is no hole in the rivet and the top surface is plain ?
So helpful. Thank you!
Thanks a million, man.
Older vid but super helpful. TY.

Thank you sooo much for the info 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 great example!!
How to remove nailed expansion rivits that used in concrete to fasten a load?
Thanks!
Does this also work with rivets on wood? We just realized that our bed surface was attached using rivets instead of screws.
I don’t know. I’d have to see what they look like. Are they made of aluminum? If you know the manufacturer of the bed wood kit, might be better to call them and see what they suggest.
What is the best way to remove a rivet from a hot wheels car, where the rivet is part of the die cast piece?
Good info, thanks.
Cool. Thanks man!

What if you don't have access to the other side?
