    I did everything and it didn't work :( I then used heavier tape (Duct tape) on the ethernet port... Works like a charm. Please people use the right type of tape if you want this to work.

    This is a STUPID question. My house it networked via ethernet. I have ports in ALL rooms. My router is downstairs in the basement which has the main feed coming into the router, then I have one of the LAN ports going to the 24port switch I have. The switch is connected via patch panel to all the rooms in the house. Can I hook up an Access port to one of the outlets upstairs since it's connected to the switch in the basement, which in tern is directly connected to the router? I hope all that makes sense. I have tried to read everywhere but I can't seem to find if the access port has to be "directly" connected to the router's lan port or if the switch's port is fine since that is coming off the router...etc.?

I try connecting to it and whenever I scan the barcode on my phone my phone completely just powers off not even going to sleep it completely just dies. I try entering the serial number into the website to log into it and it tells me that serial number doesn't exist or it's wrong. Both of my routers are netgears. The one I bought to use as an access point is newer and a little more powerful. The one my household is running off of right now was bought by my parents.

    1:02 When I modified my TP-LINK Archer C7 to work as access point, I also changed firmware to DD-WRT and there you can actually move WAN port to bridge with other interfaces (wlan cards and LAN switch), so you can use WAN port as if it was 5th LAN port

  • @firstlast1569
    @firstlast1569 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    It should be mentioned that this new AP-router is broadcasting a new wifi network, which you will need to add a name and key to. This would've been much more helpful to know how to mesh extend with an extra router (if available).
    I know most people tend to stick with one brand of networking gear, so more than a few watching this video would've benefited turning their home into one giant efficient wifi network versus a fragmented, multiple network wifi.

    I'm having issues with the end. You have two options to change but I only have one. DHCP server settings for on and off, I don't have the ID address separate.

    Mine is maybe more recent. The only thing I needed to do to make it work was to change the cable from the "Internet" connection to one of the LAN. I did not configured anything and it started to work. It's kind of counter-intuitive to use an output port as an input, but that's the way it works for this use.

    • @katv4900
      @katv4900 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's not an output port. How do you think a device communicates through it?

    Can you use the old router to wirelessly connect to the primary router and then use ethernet cables from the old router to connect the other devices that don't have wifi cards? I have a few devices upstairs with no wifi, and all wifi devices I tired so far require internet to even get them installed and running. So that defeats the purpose. I can't run cable as it's not my home.

  • @rileyr408
    @rileyr408 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    When you set up a second router as an access point is it going to show up as a whole other network on your devices that you have to keep switching between? Because I've set up my asus router as an access point and I think it is kind of annoying that I have to switch the networks depending on where I am in the house.

    You can actually use it without cable. Just search WDS and there you go.. You have successfully extended your wifi signal

    I have two computers one on each floor. I’m using ethernet connection to them. I have two modems. One is active on the second floor. The second modem on the first floor isn’t active. How can I active it without getting a second bill?

    • @JJFlores197
      @JJFlores197 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can't have two modems in your home working unless you pay for another line for the second modem. What is your end goal? Do you want to have two Internet connections? Or do you want to have a single Internet connection and use both computers on that one connection?

    Thanks alot I live on 4 acres of land with 3 buildings that are about 100ft apart and I needed Wi-Fi in all 3 buildings. I bought a nighthawk v3 router hoping it would cover at least 2 of the buildings but it covered one perfectly and then building 2 it only worked with certain devices. So Ive now taken 125 feet of Ethernet cat 6 cable in addition to the original Wi-Fi router my isp cave me in addition to the nighthawk v3 router using this method and after alittle bit of finagleing I now have stable enough Wi-Fi in all 3 buildings for my use purposes. Thanks a bunch.

    Something that's not mentioned is that the network cable needs to plugged into the LAN1 port at both ends. I had mine in LAN1 at one end and LAN4 at the other and it wouldn't work. Also when you change the IP address on the access point, don't panic if you cannot get back into the settings straight away. Give it a few minutes.
