@DarkDyllon I was theorizing something after watching the recent trailer. I could end up being completely wrong, but what I think MIGHT happen, is that she will be killed at the end, but in Zack's time line, she is unconscious from whatever happened that killed the other members, and she will wake up in his alternate time line after dying in Cloud's time line. I think this is what Marlene hints at when she says "when she wakes up, a scary man is going to kill her".

The shadows/ghost did interfered at some moment.. And did what we call paradoxes. In others words.. A glitch in the matrix that did created an alternative time-line. Basically, she is dead. And will "die" again.. When the game ends at part 3 if the "first" time-line is fixed. What created that glitch is still unknown. But probably.. Alternate time-line will fade away.. Also. Note that "fade away" and memories are heavily used in Rebirth. I might be wrong tho.. Maybe we'll have an happy ending !

I think there is a timeline. The very start of the original FF7 is immediately after Zack was gunned down and killed. I think the Remake is on a timeline out ahead of the original events and things in the Remake the characters are changing things to affect the original timeline. The only major question I have is what happened that would cause Zack to survive being attacked by all those soldiers? So many questions will be answered soon.

As a Tifaxcloud shipper, I can never really hate Aerith.. Aerith and cloud surely had something, despite it being unspoken. Even after when Aerith passed. Tifa still loses to her.. my heart just aches for tifa, but this song really does encapsulate aerith and cloud's love story..😢😢

This song is clearly Aerith's response to Cloud who is longing for her. In "Hollow" Cloud talks about taking her hand and not letting her go, in "No Promises To Keep" she is telling him to take her hand and not letting her go so that they can be together forevermore.

@@astrea4020 listen, if we're going to be totally fair here, Tifa is a much better match for Cloud, and the original game makes it clear that Cloud has always had it in for her specifically. That, in addition with the fact that Aerith and Zack were always much more compatible in my opinion than Aerith and Cloud were, and the fact that Aerith dies very prematurely much like Zack does, I just like them better as a couple, I'm going to ship that. It's not that I think she's incapable of moving on or that she shouldn't but that no better suitor comes along before her death.
I don't believe for a second Aeris will die this time. That would be tantamount to just writing a story where in the remake everyone dies and the world ends. It would be that insulting and that much of a waste of our time. The theme song of part 1 is about Cloud promising not to lose Aeris this time, the entire ending of the game is about breaking fate to avert the future that would have come otherwise, the second theme song is Aeris answering Cloud. "This time I will never let you go"/"Take my hand, never let me go". Plus they showed the scene in the trailer that SHOULD be shocking if it happens. It's a fake out.

I would love this to be the UK's entry for Eurovision. There's been quite a few whispers going around about it (Loren Alldred has also recently started following certain Eurovision related people on social media) This also being the FF7 Rebirth theme would generate massive hype.

In reality, Aerith has strong feelings for her boyfriend Zack. Furthermore, she had felt Zack’s hand while her hand is in the mako filled lifestream. Thus, the song title isn’t about Cloud and Aerith… the song title is about Aerith and her mother Ilfana… her foster mother Elmyra, her boyfriend Zack and her comrades Barret, Vincent, Cid, Yuffie, her roommate (girlfriend) Tifa and Tifa’s boyfriend Cloud, and especially the planet they all live in.
FFVII had “Eyes on Me” FFIX had ”Melodies of Life” FFX had ”Suteki Da Ne” Now finally, all these years later, FFVII has its own love ballad in “No Promises to Keep”. Hearing this for the first time felt like a full circle moment. Like it was always meant to have this song, and now it finally does.

This song imprinted itself in my mind for the last 27 years. Breath-taking... This game shaped my adolescence. While other girls my age were losing their virginity, I was staying-up late trying to figure out how to save Aerith. I spent months replaying the game a second time to see if I could save her from Sephiroth's strike. The cut-scene never changed. In this way, it was like watching a Studio Gibli movie(like "Boy and the Heron")... Perhaps more so if they combined the games aesthetics with FF9 (another one of my favorite Final Fantasies). In 7...I leveled-up all my characters to 9999, got both ultimate weapons with the black chocobos. This game taught me the idea of certain things being written into the tapestry of our lives that are destined to happen. Kind of like the mother in "Boy and his Heron", near the end of the movie the mother revealed to her son that she knew she was going to be born and give birth to him, only to die in a fire during his youth. I was pretty traumatized by not having the ability, no matter how strong I got, to save Aerith. I'm hoping the creators of this remake give us die-hard fans the chance to save her as, for me, this was the most brutal death in character-building history of games... Given her kindness, natural beauty and loving nature (and hauntingly beautiful music score). Here's to hoping we get a chance to save Aerith! To me, she symbolizes Gaia (planet earth) itself! Perhaps we need to see her die again to realize we need to give a $h!t about how we care for others and this world?
You kind of summed it up at the end there, I personally never wanted to save her, loss and pain are as essential to experience as joy. Aerith and FF7 are so iconic because of her death, because of the impact it had on us, take that away and it takes away one of the core legacies of one of the most important games of our lifetime. Sephiroth and Aerith seems to know what is going to happen, as far as Sephiroth goes, Aerith is the greatest hindrance whom he failed to kill before 'she did something' which inevitably result in his failure and death. Or rather to Sephiroth, Aerith is 'that disgusting woman who keeps getting in my way, I must kill her earlier this time' and may do it more brutally out of spite.
For people saying the song was confirmed to not be for Cloud: Nojima said it wasn't SOLELY about Cloud, there are elements of the song that can be generalized towards other characters. Aerith has a lot of people in her life that she really cares about which makes sense. There are also elements that are about the hardships of her life and the burden of being a Cetra. Just because the entirety of the song isn't SOLELY about him, doesn't mean there aren't parts geared towards Cloud. Nojima himself in his response said "There's nothing wrong with a love song, of course... and the lyrics do have elements of that- like meeting someone, them changing your world..." Nojima does not deny that the song has romantic elements. The song is deep and impactful and talks about a lot of different things... Lauren (the incredible woman that sang the song), multiple times, has discussed learning about the relationship between Cloud and Aerith in order to properly understand the emotion behind the song she's singing. She's said that in 2 seperate interviews with Uematsu, one of which came out after the Nojima interview clip, with Uematsu supporting the idea of the song being a love song. Details of the song performance in the game support the idea that part of the songs message is about Aerith's feelings for Cloud. 1.) "Until I met you..." Aerith looks over at Cloud every time regardless of the route. 2.) "Our place" The only person Aerith talks to very specifically about having a place with is Cloud, referring to the church. The lyrics about taking someone's hand and being together directly mirror the lyrics of "Hollow" which is from Cloud's perspective. I could go on. I don't think Nojima's answer takes away from Aerith's feelings for Cloud or the meaning of the song. I think it deepens the song to be about more which is valid, Aerith is more than just a love interest.
"Our place/spot" was a localisation thing, doesn't exist in the game, or the original Japanese lyrics Nojima wrote. Uematsu and Loren can have their own interpretation of the music. However, at the end of the day, Nojima is the one writing the game, and these are his characters. He already explained who the song is for and what the 'promise' is, so ultimately, how he sees his own words will be what's reflected in the story he's writing.

@jinnimoo Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think in Japanese when talking about finding the church, Cloud says "The place I have memories of, it was easy." Something along those lines. I interpret that as he associates the church with memories of Aerith and Aerith does the same for Cloud. I still think that's pretty impactful either way!! The reason I quoted Nojima as one of the key points as well is because of what you mentioned. This is his game and he wrote the lyrics, and he says so himself that parts of the song do hold a romantic weight to them.

@@jackylee5850she typically doesn’t sing for things she is doing voice roles for + this song was probably written/produced in English as Uematsu has a tendency to prefer English in his voiced pieces. Square as a whole does as well; FF16’s ending song is in English and only English - as are most of FF14’s voiced themes.

I tried to sing along with the melody and they rhymed well! So I think it's not really a Japanese translation but there may be a Japanese equivalent of the song that has not been released! @@blitzvg9975 Actually FF16 and FF14's theme songs are not written by Uematsu. Almost all theme songs by Uematsu have both English and Japanese versions, whether officially used in the game or not. Hollow has both versions, too. And the Japanese subtitles of No Promises to Keep that are shown in the Japanese trailer actually rhyme well with the melody but aren't matching closely with the English lyrics in terms of meaning. So I think there may be a Japanese equivalent of this song, but not released just yet.
This song reminds me so much of Eyes On Me by Faye Wong from the beginning to the middle part, except Eyes doesn't climax at the end and sounds more melancholic.
I am so happy I avoided this song at all costs and was able to witness this first hand without any spoilers. (I've spoiled myself quite a bit with this game) But I kept the date & the song blind, and I didn't expect to cry, I really didn't. But I cried from her first hello to their goodbye. Dating her, loving her, getting the intimate version of their date, knowing what's to come, knowing this is all so limited. My heart is shattered and I haven't even gotten to that part of the game yet. And it what world, in *what world* after seeing that play, the plot of the play, and the lyrics of the song that Aerith wrote her self, is this not canon? I think there is a timeline. The very start of the original FF7 is immediately after Zack was gunned down and killed. I think the Remake is on a timeline out ahead of the original events and things in the Remake the characters are changing things to affect the original timeline. The only major question I have is what happened that would cause Zack to survive being attacked by all those soldiers? So many questions will be answered soon.

I don't believe for a second Aeris will die this time. That would be tantamount to just writing a story where in the remake everyone dies and the world ends. It would be that insulting and that much of a waste of our time. The theme song of part 1 is about Cloud promising not to lose Aeris this time, the entire ending of the game is about breaking fate to avert the future that would have come otherwise, the second theme song is Aeris answering Cloud. "This time I will never let you go"/"Take my hand, never let me go". Plus they showed the scene in the trailer that SHOULD be shocking if it happens. It's a fake out.

Uematsu: Since it is a ballad, I wanted to make it absolutely electrifying. I was asked to make the song so that the key phrase would play in repetition, and that’s when Harry Nilsson’s “Without You” came to mind. I took inspiration from it and decided to repeat a key phrase in the chorus.
How did you feel when you first listened to “No Promises to Keep?”
Uematsu: This is the first time I’ve heard this, and I’m glad she sensed exactly what we were aiming for. “No Promises to Keep” is a love song. I wanted it to exude a sweet feeling, but at the same time, evoke the complex feeling as Aerith confessed her feelings. I tried to build up the song as it climaxed, exactly as Loren described
Was there anything you paid attention to when singing “No Promises to Keep”?
Loren: I wanted to get to know Aerith well, and I also wanted to depict her relationship with Cloud. So, for me to channel her fragile and pure personality, I needed to change certain elements of my natural vocals to match up with her character.
No Promises to Keep was inspired by, “Without you” I just listened to the version Mariah Carey sings in Tokyo and wow, you need to listen to it.
Considering this song is how Aerith feels towards Cloud and how she wants him to "Take my hand and never let me go", the ending of Rebirth is even more heart breaking knowing she died being held in Cloud's hands
In reality, Aerith has strong feelings for her boyfriend Zack. Furthermore, she had felt Zack’s hand while her hand is in the mako filled lifestream.
Thus, the song title isn’t about Cloud and Aerith… the song title is about Aerith and her mother Ilfana… her foster mother Elmyra, her boyfriend Zack and her comrades Barret, Vincent, Cid, Yuffie, her roommate (girlfriend) Tifa and Tifa’s boyfriend Cloud, and especially the planet they all live in.

This song imprinted itself in my mind for the last 27 years. Breath-taking... This game shaped my adolescence. While other girls my age were losing their virginity, I was staying-up late trying to figure out how to save Aerith. I spent months replaying the game a second time to see if I could save her from Sephiroth's strike. The cut-scene never changed. In this way, it was like watching a Studio Gibli movie(like "Boy and the Heron")... Perhaps more so if they combined the games aesthetics with FF9 (another one of my favorite Final Fantasies). In 7...I leveled-up all my characters to 9999, got both ultimate weapons with the black chocobos. This game taught me the idea of certain things being written into the tapestry of our lives that are destined to happen. Kind of like the mother in "Boy and his Heron", near the end of the movie the mother revealed to her son that she knew she was going to be born and give birth to him, only to die in a fire during his youth. I was pretty traumatized by not having the ability, no matter how strong I got, to save Aerith. I'm hoping the creators of this remake give us die-hard fans the chance to save her as, for me, this was the most brutal death in character-building history of games... Given her kindness, natural beauty and loving nature (and hauntingly beautiful music score). Here's to hoping we get a chance to save Aerith! To me, she symbolizes Gaia (planet earth) itself! Perhaps we need to see her die again to realize we need to give a $h!t about how we care for others and this world?

You kind of summed it up at the end there, I personally never wanted to save her, loss and pain are as essential to experience as joy. Aerith and FF7 are so iconic because of her death, because of the impact it had on us, take that away and it takes away one of the core legacies of one of the most important games of our lifetime. Sephiroth and Aerith seems to know what is going to happen, as far as Sephiroth goes, Aerith is the greatest hindrance whom he failed to kill before 'she did something' which inevitably result in his failure and death. Or rather to Sephiroth, Aerith is 'that disgusting woman who keeps getting in my way, I must kill her earlier this time' and may do it more brutally out of spite.

For people saying the song was confirmed to not be for Cloud: Nojima said it wasn't SOLELY about Cloud, there are elements of the song that can be generalized towards other characters. Aerith has a lot of people in her life that she really cares about which makes sense. There are also elements that are about the hardships of her life and the burden of being a Cetra. Just because the entirety of the song isn't SOLELY about him, doesn't mean there aren't parts geared towards Cloud. Nojima himself in his response said "There's nothing wrong with a love song, of course... and the lyrics do have elements of that- like meeting someone, them changing your world..." Nojima does not deny that the song has romantic elements. The song is deep and impactful and talks about a lot of different things... Lauren (the incredible woman that sang the song), multiple times, has discussed learning about the relationship between Cloud and Aerith in order to properly understand the emotion behind the song she's singing. She's said that in 2 seperate interviews with Uematsu, one of which came out after the Nojima interview clip, with Uematsu supporting the idea of the song being a love song. Details of the song performance in the game support the idea that part of the songs message is about Aerith's feelings for Cloud. 1.) "Until I met you..." Aerith looks over at Cloud every time regardless of the route. 2.) "Our place" The only person Aerith talks to very specifically about having a place with is Cloud, referring to the church. The lyrics about taking someone's hand and being together directly mirror the lyrics of "Hollow" which is from Cloud's perspective. I could go on. I don't think Nojima's answer takes away from Aerith's feelings for Cloud or the meaning of the song. I think it deepens the song to be about more which is valid, Aerith is more than just a love interest.
"Our place/spot" was a localisation thing, doesn't exist in the game, or the original Japanese lyrics Nojima wrote. Uematsu and Loren can have their own interpretation of the music. However, at the end of the day, Nojima is the one writing the game, and these are his characters. He already explained who the song is for and what the 'promise' is, so ultimately, how he sees his own words will be what's reflected in the story he's writing.

@jinnimoo Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think in Japanese when talking about finding the church, Cloud says "The place I have memories of, it was easy." Something along those lines. I interpret that as he associates the church with memories of Aerith and Aerith does the same for Cloud. I still think that's pretty impactful either way!! The reason I quoted Nojima as one of the key points as well is because of what you mentioned. This is his game and he wrote the lyrics, and he says so himself that parts of the song do hold a romantic weight to them.

@@jackylee5850she typically doesn’t sing for things she is doing voice roles for + this song was probably written/produced in English as Uematsu has a tendency to prefer English in his voiced pieces. Square as a whole does as well; FF16’s ending song is in English and only English - as are most of FF14’s voiced themes.
@@jackylee5850 I just checked the Japanese trailer again, there are Japanese subtitles that not really match with the English lyrics sung by Loren. I tried to sing along with the melody and they rhymed well! So I think it's not really a Japanese translation but there may be a Japanese equivalent of the song that has not been released! Fingers crossed!
@@blitzvg9975 Actually FF16 and FF14's theme songs are not written by Uematsu. Almost all theme songs by Uematsu have both English and Japanese versions, whether officially used in the game or not. Hollow has both versions, too. And the Japanese subtitles of No Promises to Keep that are shown in the Japanese trailer actually rhyme well with the melody but aren't matching closely with the English lyrics in terms of meaning. So I think there may be a Japanese equivalent of this song, but not released just yet.
This song reminds me so much of Eyes On Me by Faye Wong from the beginning to the middle part, except Eyes doesn't climax at the end and sounds more melancholic.

I am so happy I avoided this song at all costs and was able to witness this first hand without any spoilers. (I've spoiled myself quite a bit with this game)
But I kept the date & the song blind, and I didn't expect to cry, I really didn't. But I cried from her first hello to their goodbye.
Dating her, loving her, getting the intimate version of their date, knowing what's to come, knowing this is all so limited. My heart is shattered and I haven't even gotten to that part of the game yet.
And it what world, in *what world* after seeing that play, the plot of the play, and the lyrics of the song that Aerith wrote her self, is this not canon?
The argument always baffled me, but after seeing & hearing that song, I was floored at how much people want to ignore what is clearly right in front of them.

@@Ico_ how many times do people have to debunk that theory when aerith herself debunks it on her date with cloud? aerith is initially attracted to cloud because he reminded her of zack, small manerisms, his kindness etc... but she quickly realized that they're very different and yet she still ended up falling for cloud. hence why on her date with him she repeats over and over "i want to meet… you” (the real cloud, she knows he's hidding behind a persona). even in official material outside the game it’s always stated that she loved cloud more than zack, they always focused more on aerith and cloud both platonically and romantically. the western fandom is the one obsessed in making zack the center of everything, especially when it comes to aerith and clouds bond.
