Still remember the steam trains using those tracks when i was a boy. Where Bullocks yard is on the right as you go under the highway was a steam train graveyard. From the highway bridge to the town bridge, use to be all railway shunting yards. Nothing there now except that old turn table. When i started work early 70s. i still remember them saying, if you got a job in the railways you have a job for life. That changed in the 80s, hundreds got laid off in Wanganui. Be lucky if a dozen work for the railways in Wanganui now.

Yep heard the same line myself, then along came Rogernomics and the friend of rail "Save Rail Richard Prebble" made even more cuts, followed by Mallard later on. Left in 1979 before it turned to custard, got mates who are still there.

Nice video Geoff, l love the variety of the houses and materials used but l can't see any Solar panels on roofs like we have here in Oz.
I thought you Kiwis would have adapted to them in a big way.
    Cheers.

@@ruthfowler390 You've just contradicted yourself. Nothing to do with amount of sunshine. They are not subsidised in New Zealand. They are in Australia and this has encouraged much. New Zealand is also known as a low wage country, but that depends upon how big that sector is in nz. Why do nder's flock to Ozzie and you have your general answer.

Noticed that blue Commodore by that stand of trees on Hatrick St East at 12:10 is still there in the video. Person had been sleeping there for ages. It's gone now.
Hoping that person is okay and found accommodation.

Nice video but the sound doesn't match the activity, and appears to have been dubbed in using a different rail video altogether

I noticed that for most of the trip there were either no fences, or step over fences preventing people from wandering onto the track.

There is public train safety campaigns. Everyone knows the dangers of train tracks.
How practical is it to have entire train lines fenced in?
