Testing Car Power Window Switches

  • Here I am testing a pair of power windows switches with a multimeter. The trick is to find which pairs of pins gain/loose continuity when the switch is pressed or pulled. First the working switch is analyzed and then is compared to the broken switch. If there is a difference , then the suspect switch is bad and that is probably why the window isnt going up or down when you press the switch. These switches are from a 2011 Nissan Altima.

How to manage the multimeter? Should I put on DC voltage or mil voltage?

If it's not the window motor, window switch or 30 amp window fuse. What is it? 2006 Chevy Malibu.

Bro should all of the pins be making that noise when you touch them with the lead? Or is just some of them? I'm lost with what you are doing

I have a question. My driver side power window went on me today. All others work. Would a blown fuse affect all the Windows only or could it affect just one as well ?

A blown fuse would effect all Windows. They don't have indevidual fuses for the windows.

if they are broken can they cause other windows to not work either? curious

No, the switches would be in parallel so 1 faulty switch wouldn't take out all of them

I know exactly what he is doing... wasting time because if you have a good switch, instead of doing all that testing/guess work, JUST PLUG THE DAMN THING IN AND SEE IF IT WORKS!

based on one good and one bad, make conclusion broadly on country's quality. What smart way to think? Yao Ming is taller than American, do you say Chinese is taller than American?😀
