I’m also a Kemper fan, but the QC was my least fav while doing this. I miss the information in the sub frequency range. The Tonex delivers some serious low frequency response, surprisingly.
used kemper (powered rack and stage) from 2017, waiting for a small kemper but player not good for me. bought QC - love both kemper and qc, but qc smaller and lightweight.
I think they all pretty much sound almost the same. The tonex for the price can't be beat. I use mine through an hx effects and its just amazing. They are all pretty amazing. Technology has come a long way from my first pod. Thanks for the video. 🤘🤘
They are all good, but if we are splitting hairs I think I like the tonex or the quad cortex, then the kemper. Really at this point the modeling is good enough that you can just get the one that fits your needs best. Just the models? Tonex. All in one with effects? Quad Cortex, etc. You get the idea.
really cool video no bs straight to the point. tonex sounds the closest to the real amp, nice tone on that amp! the main thing that I dislike is the interface of the tonex app but I think im getting one. cant be beat for the price
I have both a Kemper toaster and Tonex. I struggle to hear any major difference between the Kemper and the Tonex. While older, the Kemper is a much better all-in-one offering with great effects and fantastic reverb and delays. Bang for buck, the Tonex is a fantastic option if you don’t require effects. It’s a shame Kemper still don’t have a software plugin in available. It is a great Tonex feature to use profiles across software and hardware.
Same boat here. I bought the Tonex pedal out of curiosity and nominally better accuracy. Also to have some fun creating a separate pedal board with knobs to turn. When I just want to pick up a guitar and play at night, I go to my Kemper 9 times out of 10. The nice thing about purchased Kemper profiles is you get an entire rig if you want, not just the amp. I have maybe 10 go-to profiles / rigs that I've landed on, and when I just want to noodle I pick one and go.
Yeah the tonex sounded great! I wonder if the pedal sounds different vs the pedal. Will I get a more truer tone to the capture with the pedal or using my interface 😮
they sound great for recording and room guitarists, of course if you are giging extensive they are very handy... but ive seen a few of this in live seting against tube amps and they sound different, theres something abount the punch, the dynamic range, and the natural compression of the tube that cannot be replicated specially using overdrive and distortion
@@pedroroggla8129 I’ve heard digital gear sound absolutely worse in live situations, but I have heard a few killer shows as well. Btw, my live backline choise is always the good old tube amp with a 4x12. 👌🏻
tonex is the overall most accurate sounding profile. both the kemper and the quad cortex add a little bump around the 100hz range (which is not unpleasant). At this point it really doesn't matter anymore....all of the profiles nowadays sound soooo close to the real amps, nobody would ever be able to tell if an amp is real or not anymore. even real amps vary in sound...
Hi bro. I'm using Kemper now, and I came across your video to check out the Quad Cortex that I've been interested in for a long time. But what was the result? The Quad Cortex is superficial and doesn't stir any emotion, as if it was copied on paper. Of course the real amp is perfect, but the Kemper is amazing.
For me the real amp was the best. Kemper was second best, with Quad Cortex just slightly behind it in 3rd place. Tonex was my least favourite, but still good.
Sure, I will capture my amps soon, but I have a Peavey 6505+. But in Omega Diatribe my buddy uses an EVH 5150III 6L6, will see what I can do with that. 😉
Obviously I like the real amp most. The Kemper to me sound closest because it retained some of the "thickness" of the real amp. The QC sounded great too. To my ears, the ToneX (I have one) always sounds thinner, harsher, more brittle than the real thing - I dislike it a lot and don't get the internet hype for it.
Dang, all of them were pretty close, but overall the best here was the Kemper. The only difference I could notice is that the gain sounds a little bit more drier than the real amp, but just by a really tiny pinch. The Quad Cortex had some resonance/bass frequencies missing. And the Tonex, although pretty damn good for it's price, was too snarly and feels a lil bit more synthetic than the other two actually. But tbh, if I wasn't aware that I'm watching a comparative video, I really couldn't tell the difference.
To be honest I’m not a fan of the QC interface at all. Touch screen on a touring rig is just a big no from me. I also felt that the captures on the QC is lacking on the sub frequencies. Still the Kemper for me!
@@BagusWibisono The Kemper is not about modelling at all, with the Liquid Profiling option is a bit different now, but the Kemper is mainly about profiling an existing rig. I love it!
The Kemper is definitely the closest, but even the Kemper misses some of the real amp characteristics. The ToneX seems to be further away, adding so much bass as if there is a lower octave...
The original mix and kemper sounded nice, while quad cortex sounded a little bit annoying to my ears, the same with TONEX but a little less. In this test definately Kemper or the real recording.
May it be interesting to catpture the preamp section of your amp , then send this capture into the power section of the amp and compare it to the real thing. I alwayz wondered if the modelers can reproduce a 3d sound cuz a capture is basicly a one placement mics. If you can for exemple use a tonex pedal in a power amp and cab and get the same satisfaction than the real thing then its huge. If not , just stick to the software version , no need of hardware.
Tube amp still sounds best imho. Kemper sounds very horrible I think. Very dirty highs, like. Tube amp ist very transparent and the mids are clean and well balanced. CQ changes the attack like a single coil would sound and pollutes the broad mids. Also weird lowend compression. Tonex not very transparent, very dull and dark. CQ sounds closest to me, might purchase one. Thank you for doing this comparison!
@@GERGOHAJEROFFICIAL to be honest they all sound good on their own and in the mix, as a gigging musician they all do the job, if i am going to record an album i want the amp of course, but for touring and just gigging ..... any will do
from what i heard in this demo, the sound of the digital amps is great but it lacks the pick attack, it's not so dynamic but rather linear. it has a somewhat unstable treble. even so in the mix it goes unnoticed.
To my ears the Quad Cortex sounded slightly better than the Kemper in the isolated tracks, but in the mix the Kemper sounded the best by far. I didn't like the Tonex. It sounded too digital in my opinion. Great video man! Your playing and your tone in general is so good!🤘
As usual, the modelers just don't manage to get that very important "first attack" and the dynamics right (and tight). No matter if open or palm-muted, I hear that something is missing with every modeler out there.
I've noticed that too, but the UAFX pedals nail the feel thing better than any other digital solution out there. All sound same. The difference is something you may notice and hear it in the mix. I doubt the average listener would be able to tell and could probably care less.
