The ground elevation is a bit higher toward the outside of the obstacle, and since the jump is placed uphill it's easier to clear when using the angled approach. It's hard to notice in the video, but if you look at the obstacle from the side you can see just how much higher it is from the 'normal' takeoff point if you were to approach it straight on. Damon can clear it easily straight on, but Rose has a harder time.

My favorite horse is Rose because I'm very partial to smaller, but more agile horses. Damon is a close second though! What part of the first episode/release are you looking forward to the most?
