Hi Richard, great video, do you still buy and sell machinery too? Collected a sprayer from you a long while back now!
On the subject of worms pulling the muck in, my brother convinced himself that we should plough the muck in as soon as it was spread because in his words “ it just disappears “ but I pointed out it was being incorporated by the worms, our worm counts are very high from rotating medium term leys and having plenty of farmyard manure available.
I don’t think it matters what tillage you use if you have plenty of organic matter going back into the soil, however once it starts to deplete then every time you plough or disturb with tillage then worms die and aren’t easily replaced

Hello Roy , yes we still do a little dealing in machinery , also getting into soil health , trying different methods without spending a fortune , spreading muck on over winter stubble seems to be one of the answer on our heavy clay , may even , top up by drilling oats or rye at a light seed rate with a moores direct drill , to overwinter ,let the worms do the work ,then drill again in spring with a cash crop .

Interesting vids are you happy with the barley you planted with the unidrill, the man who straightened the river is about 15 miles from us no houses flooded there this winter

If muck is not incorporated doesn't the nitrogen and nutrients vapour off ? That's what I was led to believe

Hello , would agree with you to a degree , nitrogen definitely, p and k no , the experts say will leach down into water course but not into atmosphere, were putting on top so nature does the work on some heavy clay soil , were experimenting with some problem fields .
