I'm posting this to hopefully help others, not for arguments sake.
Pan Removal Trick: I have 2018 Tahoe 6L80 trans. and the pan will come right out! Not sure if your ride will have it (i know most do), but I removed the heat shield on passenger side of pan (2 bolts). Then I was able to slide the pan over to passenger side about 3 inches, then twisted the front of the pan towards the driver side and it came right out! Removing the little heat shield gives you lots more room. If you look at the back of the pan (shallow end), there is a little raised area on the bottom about 3 inches from the passenger side, that spot is the point that will allow you to move passed the exhaust y pipe (cross over pipe). Hope this helps!! 👍

You can get the filter out while the pan is hung up on the cross pipe. Once you get the filter out the pan slides right out.
Just make sure to put the pan back over the cross pipe before putting the new filter back.

Only way a dealer changed that fluid before was by dropping the y pipe or prying down a bit on the exhaust and squeaking the pan by which is what I have done. Putting in a drain plug in a pan usually just calls for another possible leak. But you picked a hell of a time to drop the pan. 😊

No need to cut tbe pipe brother!!! all you need to do is remove the filter after you drop the pan and wiggle while it turning drivers side. I have done it many times on my 6L80. Nice info on the BMW plug.

Is it possible to drill the hole for the drain plug into the pan while it's still installed? obviously don't push the drill bit through more than a millimeter. then let the fluid drain. Then remove the pan, clean any metal shards and install the drain pug kit and re install?

I’m thinking of trying this also

OMG, you cut the exhaust? Ya just loosen the rear mount bolts and jack up the back. The pan will fall right out. Most dealers will just suck out the fluid and to hell with your filter.

Not impossible Blake! There is a way to wiggle the pan a little and it will come out! Just did this last week!

It is a pain in the a$$ though. I needed to replace the checkballs in the valve body and the mid pipe cross member did get in the way but I was able to complete the job. This was on my own truck by the way and also my first time EVER working on a transmission.

Thanks for taking the time to make this video . A lot of good information that will help people save money and be able to learn and do things for themselves. Has there been any leaks on the drain plug ? Thanks again.

Surely this is not a serious video? To get the pan off a K2 truck you move it about 45 degrees to the driver's side and it slides right out. Just have to practice the technic until you get it down.

The aftermarket exhaust on the truck was welded in solid much too close to the pan. So yes. Has since been rectified.
