So disgustingly amazing. I idolized him growing up. To this day he’s the only celeb whose passing made me cry. Felt like I lost a great friend despite never meeting him. Rip, Dimebag
What gets me is the speed. His fingers on his fretboard hand are moving at light speed. I don't see how his arm wasn't killing him after 10 seconds of it.
@@lordofreason549It’s even crazier when you analyze the flashiness of his technique too. You see when he shreds he throws his fingers pretty far out from the fretboard while playing. Usually you want to keep the fingers closer in preparation to hit the next notes, but Dime was too much of a badass to care.
I was, once. Damageplan in DC on March 30th, 2004. I was 17 and Dime was tossing me blacktooths and Coors Light in solo cups from the stage. Me and my buddy were the only ones going apeshit in the front row, headbanging and devil horns. This was the pre-cellphone video zombie crowds we have now but it was still a little uncool to headbang anymore. What did I care? I was 17 and completely absorbed in metal and music. Anyways, I just remember the drinks cart on the side of the stage was in constant use between Damageplan and Drowning Pool. Got one of Dime's actual picks, too. Not too many of those floating around! He scratched into it with a dart or knife or something sharp to give it extra grip. Green tortex. Miss you, brother Dime. Rock in peace!!
My dad used to be a drum tech for a local band in Woodbridge, Virginia called Calibra. They opened up for Pantera before CFH came out and my dad got to party with all of them. Wrathchild America was another band on the bill, with drummer Shannon Larkin, that is now with Godsmack. Shannon Larkin shaved the side of Phil Anselmo's head that night and Vinnie Paul gave one of his drum sticks to my dad. My dad got some of Phil's hair wrapped around the drum stick and still has it to this day. It's also signed by Vinnie Paul. After all of that, he says his favorite part of that night was taking a few shots with Darrell. He still refuses to call him Dimebag, because he was originally Diamond Darrell on CFH and before.

Goddamn, there is so much feeling in his playing. He is tight on the riffs, volume, squeal, everything. As a former drummer, I remember the expression "If you cannot dance to your own groove, no one will." Notice how much dance he puts in his play, notice also all the small addendums he does to the CFH riffs and solos. WoW!
I found the complete version of this video and made me want to play. Then I figured out Dime was some sort of demi god with his guitar and came to the conclusion that there are 2 kinds of guitar players. Natural talented and learned. If you want to be as good as Dime you have to be born with that gift and I just wasn't. So I just watch Dime then pick my jaw up off the floor and go home
@@lordofreason549 same here bro...there are licks that I dont even bother to play so I dont demotivate completely. But still, anything I learn from him I feel goosebumps
The way he combines blues licks with those intrevallic stretchy symmetrical licks that are sometimes outside the scale but still sound awesome is something I wish I could pull off
