Thanks! I damaged the splines of an axle while replacing the cv joint. Your solution worked for me, I was able to clean the splines enough so that the joint would slide through the splines.
I am surprised by no negative comments, as a mechanic would normally say that splines need to be perfect. ( which they don't) Great video, showing how a practical technique works. I am currently doing one similar, using a die grinder/burr and mini, shaped files / rotary wire brush as a final cleanup. Thanks for the video, I use grease with a sprinkling of graphite to find the highs and lows.
Right, I mean, worst case scenario it strips out again and then you could get a new one, but if the repair holds, why not? Seems like it's worth a shot. Thanks for uploading this!
That will work in a pinch. But the splines will wear out prematurely they don't have to be perfect but they do have to be smooth throwing some metal polish on there with a cloth wheel would go a long way.
@@HighOctane101 ah ok, sad as it’s a one piece aluminium:( pretty expensive and I am in Europe and only can import another one from the USA (1300usd total) Thank you for the answer

Agree, now have time to shop around for a used set
Instead of using grease , paint the splines easily showing high spots . Be sure the yokes are correctly timed . 5/16/23
Thanks
Good day Interesting! What cause it to go bad? Hope it works, Thanks
The u joint went bad then broke the yoke and banged around tearing up the splines before the unit got shut down.
Hello! Any way to tighten the splines? if play starts occuring?
Not an easy fix, probably a new one would be in order then.
