Although the core mission of the Kenya Defence Forces is to defend and protect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic, it is also tasked with assisting and cooperating with other government departments in situations of emergency or disaster. Lt Col Martin Asiani Orosia, now retired from the Kenya Defence Forces, nostalgically remembers how the military was called in to neutralize army worms that had attacked then President Daniel arap Moi’s wheat farm in Kabarnet in the early '90s.
