PBY Catalina came out awesome. I often think about getting the 1/48 scale Monogram version of this kit. Yours came out real good.😊

Nice! That will be a monster David, but probably a lot more detailed than this kit. Thanks for watching

I love the Catalina...We had the 'flying porkupine' which was a monster really...The first time I saw a Catalina was when we had a model day at school (11 years old, 45 years ago) and my mate brought in a Catalina and a B17, both I'd never seen before cos I was still building kits of the RAF and Luftwaffe...so was my intro to big US WW2 aircraft...Thanks for the vid...Nice build...from the UK

Absolutely and thanks for watching Lewis. I have a soft spot for sea planes not sure why I had not build one before. Glad you enjoyed, cheers!

@@johnalecsscalemodeling If it wasn't for a RAF Catalina we would never have got the Bismark...and I read 2 Victoria Crosses given to Catalina pilots which is no mean feat...I think that it was the Brits who named her ' Catalina' too as they did the 'Mustang' which I think is good forethought as both those names are not common usage for Brits at the time but sound very US...maybe trying to lure the US into the war with their own tasty named aircraft, eh...lol...either way the Brits loved the old gal..and so do I...She doesn't just look like a flying boat...she looks like a flying speedboat...Beauty!

    Dear John,
The variation of tonal effects is striking and you are rather good at it! It is an area where I can add significant detail and realism in my projects so watching was useful!
    Thanks and regards,
    Z

Very Nice build, love the PBY! 😊👍👍👍 I also build those Academy PBY Catalina, a black cat version & the yellow wing version. Both are brush painted. 😅

Excellent Emz yeah it's a beautiful plane. Yellow wing must have been great. Cheers

Finally ordered one and ready to start, slowly as I’m building a M4A3 tank too. I like the mask, first kit for me with one and the last mask I did on a 1/72 B17 drove me bonkers.
I’ve been looking at those stencils, kind of feel like it’ll either be awesome or I’ll ruin a paint job 😅

Excellent! You’re going to really like the kit and it’s really impressive once you’re all done. Enjoy!

Gosh....what a good solid build. I built the same one, so enjoy it, superb value for money!! I bought Hobby 200 Coastal Command version, with all the goodies from Quickboost and Eduard for next year! Good Luck with Newcastle United, friendly greeting from Londinium Britannica.😺p.s. I'm now building the Vintage 1/72 Revell Douglas A-20 Havoc 1967 vs the Airfix Douglas A-20 Boston 1963, interesting stuff, bags of character.

I think that these tiny "needle holes", depicting the rivets, are not realistic. The best kit of the PBY currently available is that made by Eduard in 1:48th scale. The surface detailing is really superb

Can't understand why you having painted before assembly as you have covered all the mating plastic surface. Basically you are sticking glue together, eventually it will drop to bit just like they did when I was a child.

Hi Rob, I do that when it makes the subassembly painting easier. I will usually use CA glue, but when I use extra thin it cuts right thru the paint and into the plastic. I understand where you are coming from, but it works for me and they do stay together. If I need to do a little touch up it's ok. I don't like to assemble the whole thing and then paint, it's just not how I enjoy modeling. Thanks for watching.
