  • Is Anything Real? Are We Real? Introduction To Solipsism
Solipsism is a philosophical idea that claims only one’s own mind is sure to exist. You can’t actually know anything other than that, for certain. Even the basic questions like 'is anything real?', 'are we real?', 'is reality an illusion?', nothing can be answered with certainty. In this episode of Journal of Things we are going to try to explain solipsism while assessing the reality itself through the philosophy of solipsism, monitoring of thoughts and personal experience We are also going to briefly discuss the French philosopher Rene Descartes who famously said “I think, therefore I am”, then we move on to The Matrix (there is no spoon) and Guy Ritchie’s Revolver.
Solipsism denies that the human mind has any valid reason for believing that anything outside itself exists, which is a pretty radical standpoint to take. But who knows: could it be that despite the vastness of the universe (or so it seems), only you exist? This video explores the philosophy of solipsism, using ideas from George Berkeley, Descartes, Zhuangzi, Kant, and The Matrix.

What brave teacher lol? Leo is literally saying that he has no subjective experience. How can he be brave then? This is a contradiction because you are saying solipsism is true but then implying that Leo has a subjective experience by saying that he is brave. If solipsism is true, then you are imagining Leo and have no problem disappearing him.

Does anyone else feel that they are the only real person here and that everyone else are just actors like in the Truman Show or NPCs like in the Matrix or just characters in a dream? That would explain why people don't make sense and can't see obvious things that I see.
Interesting question: When you are in a dream, you can talk to other people in the dream. So are the people in your dream self-aware and sentient and conscious? If not and they are merely creations of your own mind, then how do you know if people in the waking real world are real and self-aware or not? It's impossible to know. Any of you think about this too?
Another possibility is shared solipsism, which is that there are a few real people or real souls in this matrix or dream, but most people are NPCs. Matt from the Quantum of Conscience channel talks about this and that's why most people are not awake at all.

I believe we sacrifice our infinite power into infinite fractals to never feel alone again and now we exist in every little thing in every place possible...even if it is all in our 'mind'. So....you're not alone. I'm here :) Ask for my number and we can eliminate a tiny bit of our loneliness by talking about our current human experience!

    • @mrbwatson8081

@@OnceTheyNamedMeiWasnt yes it is a terrifying experience I have had it at least twice. You know when you switch the old tv 📺 off the screen suddenly shrinks to a white dot ⚪️ and disappears? Well for what seemed like an eternity I WAS that disappearing white dot:) The longer it lasted the deeper you go but surprisingly the more it felt like I was waking up. It’s hard to explain intuitively the deeper you go the more dream like it should feel. But it’s not like that it’s the opposite, the deeper you you the more you realise ooohh that was me, ooh shiit was ALL me. you literally wake up to the realisation that you created all that life you had it was just your imagination. And the deeper you go the more your normal everyday existence feels like a distant dream. So much you start to think shit how am I going to recreate my world back, it’s because sub consciously you know if you wake up from a normal dream, it’s almost impossible to recreate that same dream. So the more you dissolve into this paradoxical void of waking and realisation, the more distant you become from your normal waking life so far removed that for a short time you just forget about it :)the whole time you are a shrinking dot.. that’s when you taste it, infinite loneliness. That’s the most profound and terrifying feeling I have had in my life. To realise you are the only thing in existence. it will leave a mark on you believe me. As the drug wares off you the opposite starts to happen that’s why I can vouch for Leo when he says consciousness is like a dial. You literally recreate your existence, it’s as if your trip now becomes dream like and you wake up or realise into your normal self again. The infinite loneliness is terrifying and makes you appreciate other humans and life in general in a different way:) it was a smash in the face for me because I had not long lost my old man, and I still have trouble with coming to terms with. To think you created your parents or dreamed them into being wtf😳 …. I don’t like to draw conclusions because after all nobody really knows what the f is really going on, but it’s still an experience I can not just ignore. But with more trips comes more understanding and I realised that, infinite awareness = infinite loneliness =infinite freedom =infinite creativity = this existence. Just enjoy it :) because one day it will be as if it never happened:)

I can see how this would send people over the edge of the line that would make one crazy. It is fascinating though. His dream analogy in that we create and are characters etc in our dreams. In our dreams we also spontaneously create things and places we have never seen. For example, in a dream when you are in a house you have never been in, you have instantly designed and imagined a unique and perfect home. Then there are places you have never been and you have spontaneously created, landscapes, streets, etc.
Back to the dream we might be living, it might explain some things we can make no sense of. The idea of infinity, something with no beginning and no end, really can physically only be something of the imagination. There can be no physically infinite realm. It doesn't make sense. The idea of no beginning and no end, it isn't logical and does not make sense so can only be something of the imagination. The idea that God always has been also doesn't make sense. Maybe these are limitations of this world we would create. Then there are conspiracy theories such as 911, one could equally argue for a real terrorist attack or an inside job. Do these incidents that remain open ended and never solved reflect some kind of shortcut that bypasses logic to make these incidents occur this this constructed reality? It almost seems that way.
Then there is the idea that we can manifest outcomes for ourselves through visualization etc. There are many things in my life that I was certain would eventually become true. I am writing a book about a fundamental obvious reality about our world that it doesn't make sense that scientists overlooked. It also felt like my destiny since I was a teenager. How could the smartest scientists overlook this simple fundamental obvious unknown in physics that is in plain sight and only two steps of logic to deduce? To me that does not make sense but again, has always felt part of my destiny to answer.
Also it doesn't mean that we must be God. We really could be a member of an advanced civilization that does have a capability to send us into this real life trip. It's all bizarre is all I can say.

What Leo is expressing is called "dogmatic solipsism", which is the thesis that only one's own mental operations exist, and that nothing exists or can exist independently of one's own mental operations; the problem with this thesis is that it is dogmatic, viz., it assumes something is true without proving it to be true. Now, it may be true that all that exists is one's own mental operationality; but, it may also be true that there do exist other "things" beyond one's own mind (for instance, an external world, other minds, etc.). The fact is that Leo's solipsism is problematic precisely because it is a species of dogmatic philosophy, arguing in a circle. It cannot be doubted, as Kant already demonstrated, that all we can know are our own mental states; nevertheless, it does not follow from this that the only things that exist or can exist are our own mental states.

We already experience the sensation of being one with other entities when we dream, especially lucid dreaming. When I became lucid, I was at a family member's house and started having conversations, and a part of me probably felt like they were separate from me as I'm asking them questions. I asked them if we were all having the same dream right now, and they agreed that we were, but that's impossible. It's all my own mind and creation interacting with itself. That's just a miniature example of reality. I thought in the dream that maybe in the "real world," they were all asleep and we were having a connected dream with each other. Reality may just be one big lucid dream. Even in those dreams, I seem to forget that it's all my own reality and I feel like I can't control much.

What people? If solipsism is true, there is only you. The reason your dream characters are biased against it is because you don't want yourself to know too quickly. You want to wake up gradually so you have tricked yourself by creating dream characters that dismiss solipsism. You drop little breadcrumbs of truth here and there because ultimately you do want to wake up, just not too quickly or immediately. That is my theory at least.

You have to look at the issue form a higher perspective.
Either A: solipsism is true all those who believe it, and if they do believe it, that makes it UNTRUE.
Or B: If it's untrue then we might as well be focusing our energy in higher things.

    Case against Solipsism -
Claim in this video - All distinctions are what I(God mind) imagine it to be. Table is different from the chair, only if the god mind, which is my mind, imagines itself to be so. There is no difference between the table and the chair, if I (the god mind) don’t imagine it to be so. I(the god mind) dreams up distinctions in the form raw senses, in the form of thoughts and concepts. One such important distinction that I(the god mind) has imagined is the distinctions of human identities. I(the god mind) imagines at concept level that those human-looking cut-outs have independent consciousness and sensory capabilities, and thereby giving rise to the concept of I(the ego mind) and other independent conscious entities. This human cut-out which is closer in the visual field is I(the body of this ego mind) and there are other human cut-outs which are farther in visual field which is not I(ego mind). And all these are just imaginary distinctions that I(the god mind) dreams up to form a very consistent and cohesive reality. In fact, there are really no other independent consciousnesses. This consciousness that I have is the only consciousnesses and rest is imagination.
Counter Argument - I agree to most of what is claimed. For example, I agree that within the field of consciousness which is accessible to me, all distinctions are what the mind dreams up. That’s okay and understandable. What isn’t okay is the spine statement of solipsism i.e. My mind is the only mind. Or this consciousness is the only consciousness.
The problem lies in the process of referring. If I am able to refer to something, it sure has some attributes which are distinct from the attributes of the background in which it exists. This is true for, table, chair, other human being. And I am using the same reference process by referring to consciousness. When I say ‘my mind is the only mind’ or ‘this consciousness is the only consciousness’ - What am I referring to when i use the words ‘my mind’ and ‘this consciousness’. I will, first of all have to imagine a boundary in the consciousness to say something like ‘my consciousness’ which can only exists in background of ‘not my consciousness’. So when I am trying to state solipsism by saying , my mind is the only mind, in the same sentence I am also defeating the very same statement, because inherently the statement assumes that there is something other than ‘my mind’. Otherwise how would you be able to refer to it.
Now, lets look at why do we fall into this trap which is easy to overlook.
It is easy to recognise that the chair is distinct from its background wall because in this experience of chair there is a raw sensation of the background of chair, which is not chair. But when we say ‘this mind or my mind or my bubble of perception ’, we think it to be the absolute because we haven’t experienced anything in the form of raw sensation or thought outside of what we call as ‘my mind or my bubble of perception’. This way we falsely infer this bubble to be absolute. We overlook the fact that we are actually creating a distinction between my-mind, and not-my-mind, at conceptual level. Its the dichotomy of ‘something’ and ‘nothing’. Nothing is inconceivable in terms of thought or raw sensation, so we deem it to be non-existent. But that is flawed. The moment we say ‘my mind’, i did create that distinction between mine and not-mine at the level of concept. Just that I am not able see that distinction in raw sense level or thought level. The distinction exists as concept level. Otherwise it is impossible to refer to it.
So, my mind is the only mind is a false statement. But then what is true statement.
Any statement will require words, and words means references which require distinctions. So it is impossible to bring truth in the form of words. We can reject false notions by the way of logic and words, but it is impossible to describe truth through the words.
So stay silent and bow down to the truth!

    • @anujarora5478
      @anujarora5478 19 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Understanding upgrade.
It is true that when you say ‘my mind’ it automatically assumes something which is ‘not my mind’.
Yet again, it’s an imagined distinction. The same distinction that is of the table and its background, which is also imagined in a sensory plane.
But it doesn’t defeat solipsism. It just makes it difficult to define. And the moment you use words it automatically means references and definitions which means imaginary distinctions.
Lets try to call out solipsism by other way. By dissolving imagined distinctions than by creating. We first start with known imagined distinctions and then we dissolve it.
Table and its background, they are known imagined distinctions. We say that it’s just one sensory plane, and we dissolve the distinction.
Similarly, at conceptual level, we start with my mind and others minds. Or my my bubble of perception and others bubbles of perception. And then we dissolve and say they all occur in one conceptual plane.
Now this sensory plane and conceptual plane is difficult to get hold of, since its the only one there. The moment you try to define it or refer to it, we assume a boundary which we’ll have to dissolve again.
      So we stop there.
      But solipsism can hold anyway.

@@MarioGabrielJ02 paradoxes are allowed within infinity. In the same way a quantum particle can have both a negative and positive charge at the same time in a state of superposition, consciousness can have both a unitive and all encompassing omnipotent state, while having an individuated and illusory seperated state at the same time. These seemingly contradictory concepts are permissible if reality is mental/dreamlike/imaginary as opposed to made of 'physical' stuff. I'm not saying that the ego or personality or who you currently identify as, is God, but the fundamental essence of awareness that animates the personality, and what is shared amongst everything in existence, that is God.

@@MarioGabrielJ02from your question it sounds like you are confusing seperateness and oneness. They aren't two things. Separateness is an illusion. Oneness is not. In my own journey I've come to form my current understanding that God is an immaterial mind. It isn't made out of anything. It is the simulation and the computer at the same time. We get lost in translation using language because words fall so far short of what can only be known by direct experience. When you have a direct experience of God you realize it is indeed you. But a you that is not your ego. Just pure awareness. The seperateness is an illusion God creates for itself so that it can experience something 'other' than itself. We are individuated units or partitions or alters of source consciousness. So is everything else including what appears to be solid matter. That's why the video game or simulation metaphor is such a good analog. The objects being rendered on the screen for the player seem like they are seperate from the player but really they are all just lines of code being run on the processor. This analogy still falls a bit short of reality tho. Because God is a paradox in that it is both the processor and the code being run to create an infinite amount of potential different experiences for itself, so that it can escape the monitiny of infinity. The substrate in which this all takes place is literally Love. So God is in everything and everything is within God. That probably sounds like nonsensical mumbo jumbo. But if you have a direct experience of God it will make sense. Keep seeking 👍

The holographic principle states that the entropy of ordinary mass (not just black holes) is also proportional to surface area and not volume; **that volume itself is illusory and the universe is really a hologram which is isomorphic to the information "inscribed" on the surface of its boundary.**

I can see where it can be true. However I cant put boundaries on such a magnificent experience. I dont know if others are conscious, I dont know if we all share the same one conscience. I dont know if I reincarnate over and over forcing myself to forget every past life in order to kill the boredom of eternity. I will not say this is the truth. I wont say its not the truth. Only the coincidentia oppositorum of everything-nothing exists. People experiencing this state describe it as very beautiful and relaxing. So why then a disclaimer, warning of existential dread, at the start of this video? Only ego-fixated people lack the subtlety in self-experiencing that can make the content of this video dangerous. I only recently came to know Leo Gura via the TOE-Podcast of Curt Jaimungal. When I compare the way he appeared over there with his attitude shown here, I can only conclude, that he has a rather low opinion of the spiritual developement of his average listener.

thank you for this video. I haven't watched all of it yet but I would suggest investigating the subject "quantum individuality"
it's like a relative relativility theory.
Just like solipsism with extra steps.
you might even prove quantum individuality to gain a nobel prize if you tell everything you told in this video with physics.
just add some relativity + gravity = soliptic existence lol
the best part about this is
    "everything is true"
    but the worst thing is..
    "everything IS true"
even gods, monsters, dragons and everything.. as long as relativity (physics based interactions) allow it.
and we only need some time to apply.
this is not a secret. this is the end of all of the beginnings when you realize if you didn't have a potential to understand something you wouldn't even be aware of it. lol.
just realize, your "potentia" is not fixed. you might and can be anything and everything.
so if you can wish anything and everything...
and it will definitely be true..
    what would you wish?
I would wish for this to not be true as a start (: lol...

This was definitely one of the best discussions I have heard on this topic. But it still falls short. It’s like Democritus coming up with the insight of atoms, but obviously there is a lot more to the story. I have literally thought about this forever. In first grade I sat there wondering- amazed that I was looking out of these eyes here in this place. This one set of eyes. That to me was a basic question of this existence. But atoms did need to be made. It’s obvious to me. I can see how god originally made them. And I understand that consciousness moved through them. I have figured out the mechanisms for the creation of reality. I’m not even joking. I understand what consciousness is. What we see in reality is an image of higher dimensions. Reality woven through this realm on this my home planet.
Anyway I think people don’t like “solipsism” because they don’t really understand it. They equate it with being egotistical or a sociopath. But to think solipsistically without understanding the importance and function of every other as you is to be insane. To love every other as yourself is to be sane.
Science is the ordering of symbol for sane entry of the creator mind. An all-at-once event. It’s not a frame or back-story. Its extremely difficult to make universes. It’s extremely difficult to be alone in chaos too.
It’s been a long hard journey to get here. It’s extremely important information in schools and universities. The power-negative impact is when the teacher finds a mind-niche and doesn’t let the purposes beyond their own narrow ideas play out for the future. This is the real problem. A teacher who clings to a branch in fear. All the things of reality are navigation devices bringing the future into existence. If you misunderstand solipsism, then you are facing a wall that you will not be able to comprehend. Your consciousness is automatically limited-to protect you and also others. Limited by a dismissive rather than full-creative “solipsism”.
As a quick example to pop you out of the dead-end, look at the internet. You have an avatar, but there’s someone real behind it. There is so much more to this, but think on that and you will do better. The scary thing is the well of souls, the well of creation where the vortex of creation rises. Without this organization. We could not coherently create and a rift in reality could bring everything down.
Be careful with your interpretations. They can feed back and destroy. The world is real like a circle in flatland is real while a sphere moves through it. I am that which moves through it. ❤
    Thanks for this video. ❤

Solipsism is not new of course. And there is no way it can be proved or disproved. The explanation and "proof" of it is perfectly circular. I don't think it illuminates anything about reality. It just presents, for the umpteenth time, a multi-thousand year old interpretation of our experience that is based on the fact that all we can say about reality is based on OUR personal experience.
Yes, of course a dream is a good way to demonstrate how it would work, but that doesn't mean that's how it all works.
Just like the fact that it can't be disproved, it can't be proved either. So we have no choice but to accept this very old construct and move on, or reject the idea and move forward as if we each are having a valid experience.
I am a huge fan of Leo, but this conclusion of his, whether true or not is an utter dead end philosophically, logically and intellectually. It brings all investigation to an end it seems.
