I remember one time having somebody try argue the world was better pagan, giving Vikings an example, only for me to have explain to him that it was in fact Vikings (referring to Early Medieval Norsemen, where Viking usually refers to their raiders only, but is used interchangeably) that had many women advocate for Christianity specifically because Christianity would have given more rights and heigher status to women than their prior situation.

A wife is a man’s property: You shall not covet your neighbor’s house. You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, or his male or female servant, his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor. Exodus 20:17
Daughters can be bought and sold: If a man sells his daughter as a servant, she is not to go free as male servants do. Exodus 21:7
A raped daughter can be sold to her rapist: 28 If a man happens to meet a virgin who is not pledged to be married and rapes her and they are discovered, 29 he shall pay her father fifty shekels of silver. He must marry the young woman, for he has violated her. He can never divorce her as long as he lives. Deuteronomy 22:28-29
Collecting wives and sex slaves is a sign of status: He [Solomon] had seven hundred wives of royal birth and three hundred concubines, and his wives led him astray. 1 Kings 11:3
Used brides deserve death: If, however the charge is true and no proof of the girl’s virginity can be found, she shall be brought to the door of her father’s house and there the men of her town shall stone her to death. Deuteronomy 22:20-21.
Women, but only virgins, are to be taken as spoils of war: Now kill all the boys. And kill every woman who has slept with a man, 18 but save for yourselves every girl who has never slept with a man. Numbers 31:17-18
Menstruating women are spiritually unclean: 19 “‘When a woman has her regular flow of blood, the impurity of her monthly period will last seven days, and anyone who touches her will be unclean till evening. 20 “‘Anything she lies on during her period will be unclean, and anything she sits on will be unclean. 21 Anyone who touches her bed will be unclean; they must wash their clothes and bathe with water, and they will be unclean till evening. 22 Anyone who touches anything she sits on will be unclean; they must wash their clothes and bathe with water, . . . 30 The priest is to sacrifice one for a sin offering and the other for a burnt offering. In this way he will make atonement for her before the LORD for the uncleanness of her discharge. 31 “‘You must keep the Israelites separate from things that make them unclean, so they will not die in their uncleanness for defiling my dwelling place,[a] which is among them.’” Leviticus 15: 19-31
A woman is twice as unclean after giving birth to girl as to a boy: A woman who becomes pregnant and gives birth to a son will be ceremonially unclean for seven days, just as she is unclean during her monthly period. ‘ 3 On the eighth day the boy is to be circumcised. 4 Then the woman must wait thirty-three days to be purified from her bleeding. She must not touch anything sacred or go to the sanctuary until the days of her purification are over. 5 If she gives birth to a daughter, for two weeks the woman will be unclean, as during her period. Then she must wait sixty-six days to be purified from her bleeding. 6 ” ‘When the days of her purification for a son or daughter are over, she is to bring to the priest at the entrance to the tent of meeting a year-old lamb for a burnt offering and a young pigeon or a dove for a sin offering. Leviticus 12: 1-8
A woman’s promise is binding only if her father or husband agrees: 2 When a man makes a vow to the LORD or takes an oath to obligate himself by a pledge, he must not break his word but must do everything he said. 3 “When a young woman still living in her father’s household makes a vow to the LORD or obligates herself by a pledge 4 and her father hears about her vow or pledge but says nothing to her, then all her vows and every pledge by which she obligated herself will stand. 5 But if her father forbids her when he hears about it, none of her vows or the pledges by which she obligated herself will stand; the LORD will release her because her father has forbidden her. . . . . A woman’s vow is meaningless unless approved by her husband or father. But if her husband nullifies them when he hears about them, then none of the vows or pledges that came from her lips will stand. Her husband has nullified them, and the LORD will release her. 13 Her husband may confirm or nullify any vow she makes or any sworn pledge to deny herself. Numbers 30:1-16
Women should be seen not heard: Women should remain silent in the churches. They are not allowed to speak, but must be in submission, as the law says. 1 Corinthians 14:34
Wives should submit to their husband’s instructions and desires: Wives, submit yourselves to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord. Colossians 3:18
In case you missed that submission thing . . . : Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands as you do to the Lord. 23 For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior. 24 Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything. Ephesians 5:22-24.
More submission - and childbearing as a form of atonement: A woman should learn in quietness and full submission. 12 I do not permit a woman to teach or to assume authority over a man; she must be quiet. 13 For Adam was formed first, then Eve. 14 And Adam was not the one deceived; it was the woman who was deceived and became a sinner. 15 But women will be saved through childbearing-if they continue in faith, love and holiness with propriety. 1 Timothy 2: 11-15
Women were created for men: For if a woman does not cover her head, she might as well have her hair cut off; but if it is a disgrace for a woman to have her hair cut off or her head shaved, then she should cover her head. 7 A man ought not to cover his head, since he is the image and glory of God; but woman is the glory of man. 8 For man did not come from woman, but woman from man; 9 neither was man created for woman, but woman for man. 1 Corinthians 11:2-10
Sleeping with women is dirty: No one could learn the song except the 144,000 who had been redeemed from the earth. 4 These are those who did not defile themselves with women, for they remained virgins. They follow the Lamb wherever he goes. They were purchased from among mankind and offered as first-fruits to God and the Lamb. Revelation 14:3-4

men and women together to be for each other what God created us for. its how we feel the joyful fulfillment of the amazing world God has created. all im saying, its j the truth of God that men and women and equal and their roles have equal importance, and its sinful to believe otherwise.

Civilization would not exist in any capacity without roads. Modern society would not exist in any capacity without electricity, gas, or plumbing, which is what I was referencing. Women are who we outsource child rearing to because that's what they choose, but men are just as capable in the profession. Prior to those things, men hunted food and protected the tribe. The tribe could exist with female captives who added nothing to the tribe, but without men, they would all be eaten by a predator or stolen by another tribe. That's not to say women are less valuable, only their roles.

women, most them in a family unit where
they got both the important influence of a mom and dad. the hand that rocks the cradle is the hand that rules the world, is the old saying, meaning both men and women accomplish great things together by women mothering the men who grow to be great, meaning they both accomplished something great.

16And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, “From any tree of the garden you may eat freely; 17but from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat from it you shall surely die.”
      Genesis 2:16-17
2And the woman said to the serpent, “From the fruit of the trees of the garden we may eat; 3but from the fruit of the tree which is in the middle of the garden, God has said, ‘You shall not eat from it or touch it, lest you die.’ ”
      Genesis 3:2-3
So here we see a discrepancy. God told Adam one thing but Eve tells the serpent something else. God says 'don't eat it' while Eve says they shouldn't touch it. Who told her not to touch it? God wouldn't because the law for one person is the same for all. The only person around who could have told her that is Adam. Right off the bat Adam is adding to the command of God which is the beginning of human religion. This opens a crack for Satan to deceive Eve.
6When the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was desirable to make one wise, she took from its fruit and ate; and she gave also to her husband with her, and he ate.
      Genesis 3:6
Notice what this verse says: 'she gave also to her husband WITH HER.' Adam wasn't off somewhere doing something else while the serpent tempted Eve. He was with her watching the entire interaction and did nothing to stop it. Adam was tasked with defending the Garden and let the Enemy walk right in and lie to his wife while he watched. The entire ordeal, start to finish, is ADAM'S fault.

Unfortunately a lot of American women do not recognize the man as the head or even as an equal. They are in constant competition for power. And it only ends in tearing up the marriage.
But the couple is one flesh. Two sides of one coin. The couple needs to work together and bring out each other’s strengths rather than a “he’s the boss” attitude.
In my marriage of 35 years, I likened it to the constitution. We each have a few rules set in stone, and then we are free to grow and make our own decisions after that. And let me tell you, we are much better off than if I made all the decisions.

But due to the call of human treatment
      To love each other
The golden rule and many other points contend with it.

    • @pants_schmants
      @pants_schmants 11 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

@r.a.panimefan2109 Yes, it was a big change after reading many different things. The difference in roles matters less than the value of the human being. I was a child who observed many biased, exist practices in the world, and the rationale for these things was usually some form of "girls are like animals, girls are less than, girls don't carry our society, etc. Some things like that happen to boys too, don't get me wrong! But it was way WAY more prevalent for violence to be enshrined and validated against women, at least in my youth. FGM in North Africa. Abandonment in Sparta and other aggressive cultures. Serial killer almost always target and do gory things to women. To top it off, a cult person in my early life said that since Eve was the first sinner, every bad thing that happened to every girl was our own fault and we bear the responsibility of the whole fall of man. That's why it's right to treat us like a tool or an empty hole shell. ... That was long ago. I decided to read every scripture book I could get my hands on when I was 17, so I could arm myself with what they REALLY say, not hearsay. So glad I did! Christian for 27 years now, and I have peace and am valued by God.

And selectively read at that. I notice when she said "and the husband will rule over you" she just skipped over the part where it says "you will desire to rule over your husband" just like she skipped over the part about the man having to toil to get food. And never connects either problem with God's blessings in Genesis 1 to "be fruitful and multiply" and "bring the world under your dominion" and how now, because of sin, receiving those blessings would only come through great pain in childbirth for the woman and lifelong toil for the man.

Yes, I agree. The original plan was for man and wife to become "one". One mind, one body, one spirit, as we are one with Jesus.
Jesus also states in the NT, "Know ye not that when a man and a woman marry, they become one? They are no longer two separate people, but one."
They are "co-heirs" to the promise. If a man and wife are one, no one is master over the other. They act as one, think as one. Worship as one.
We are to serve each other as Jesus serves us. His example was washing the feet of his disciples. If our God does this, can we not serve each other in this manner?
My husband and I have been married for 41 years. No, it wasn't easy. It's a process. We let our pride get in the way sometimes, and do disagree. Now that we are in our 60s it's easier. We have grown together. On the major things we think and act as one. Don't let the world into your marriage.
Both Adam and Eve were punished. Eve blamed the serpent. Adam blamed God for giving him the woman. So because they did not take responsibility for their actions. They were both punished.

Women can do most of the things men can, except a few spiritual listed in scriptures. God gave a few things to men and a few things to women and only if they are one and in their roles they create harmony between them and true equality God intended for humanity. Whilst 1 Timothy 2:11-12 and 1 Corinthians 14:34 say a woman should be silent; the same author Paul writes in Romans 16 that Phoebe and the other women should lead and are worthy to lead. Mike argues that Deacons are not Priests, but he conveniently overlooks even a season cannot do that job if they remain silent. So because scripture does contradict, what we can take from these three letters is Paul is judging on merit not gender. In other words, THESE women should be silent, and THOSE women should lead. To read differently, is to make Paul either forgetful or schizophrenic.

There is no prohibition in Titus.
      I have covered 1 Timothy 2 already.
Paul was not sending a reply-all email. Paul was writing to specific churches to address their specific needs. One church, had an issue with idols, another church had an issue with circumcision, and so forth. Yes, some are generic. But where Paul teaches opposites, like in Romans 16, he is talking specifically. In the Church of England, a deacon is higher than a rector (priest).
Paul, like God and like Jesus, treats people on merit, not gender.
If God's ways are higher than man's, it must be a red flag when your interpretation paints God lower. That normally indicates a misunderstanding of scripture.

Did she forget about Mary. The one chosen by God to bring Jesus in the world. One of the most important and respected women in the Bible.

  • @TameAle
    @TameAle 7 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

She forgot the part where men are too serve their wives, and love them like Jesus loves the church, and will die if need be to protect her. That a man that treats his wife poorly will not be welcomed into heaven. And that the Bible has a word used in context only for a wife... and God. What they don't want you to understand is that women benefit greatly from scripture being adhered to. Acting like women are treated poorly and we should throw off our shackles. Nope. We are to be cherished and protected.

You cannot sustain a worldview that is 2,000 years old without lying to yourself and surrendering all we have learned since then.

It's funny how much people have to breeze over content when criticizing the Bible. This is the same problem as critics point out in Ephesians 5:22-24 about wives submitting to their husbands, or Ephesians 6:5-8 about slaves submitting to their masters. But wait, there's more! Ephesians 5:25-30 also tells men to lay down their lives for their wives, and Ephesians 6:9 tells masters to stop mistreating their slaves. So too, after Genesis 3:16 says for women to be ruled by their husbands, Genesis 3:17-19 says men will work their butts off to provide for their family.
Stop ripping out half-passages of the Bible as a proof-text to discredit it. You're not seeking truth; you're seeking an agenda.

It’s also worth noting that Genesis 3 is God telling them what WILL be the case moving forward (your desire will be fore your husband, to rule him, and yet he will rule over you), not necessarily God saying what SHOULD happen
