Didn't see you but I was there - just for day 2. In all honesty, the £40ish was worth it for me just for Gary's segment at the end which was shorter than it should have been because the day over-ran. Grant and everyone else was the exact huckster stuff I expected. Especially as Grant didn't realise that he was in Birmingham, not London, and Gary took the piss out of him for that BIG style! :D

I went to this EXACT event when it came through Australia. Gary Vee was legit and provided a lot of value to the room. There was one other good speaker from Australia that actually provided some tangible promo strategies. HOWEVER, this video is spot on. 99% of the day was being pitched to... HARD. Mike - This is good shit. Your unbiased and skeptical approach gives you real credibility. I am a fan of Gary Vee however - there is definitely a bit of hypocrisy going on. He can attend these events knowing that he's the best man in the house, because lets face it; he is. But he's not only getting pocket money but potential in sales and more content to put out on his social media further extending his brand. These simply aren't free transactions of providing value for nothing and that's always been his rhetoric. I think you navigate that point quite eloquently here so kudos. I'm enjoying your content, keep it up man!

  • @GnaeusScipio
    @GnaeusScipio 4 ปีที่แล้ว +115

    Gary Vee's response at 8:12
"Do you know what the greatest sadness for me every day is?
When some people see my content and they think my high energy means I’m one of those people.
Has it been cool for you guys to figure out the difference between me and them?
I’m for free not telling them what they want to hear, they’re for money telling them what they want to hear.
They won’t think they’re good guys forever.
    "
I don't know Gary's stuff other than the generic motivational aspect, but that response is a great example of clever wordplay.
He didn't _miss_ the point, Mike, he misconstrued it to put himself on the persuasive high ground.
"greatest sadness every day" paints him as just caught up in what's going around him, and aligns his negative emotion of sadness with Mike's negative emotion of frustration.
"think I'm one of those people" distances himself in concrete terms. This paired with the first emotional prod is like a one-two punch for persuasion. First emotion, then the concrete. Time to move to the abstract.
"Has it been _cool_ for you guys to figure out the difference between me and them?"
This is all set in past tense, as though Mike already came to the same conclusion as Gary will then supply. It's not "did you figure out the difference?" or "what do you think is the difference" - anything that gives Mike a chance to actually give his own views.
Instead, Mike's now primed with "difference between Gary and them" instead of his own "why did you attend this scummy summit" question.
After a cut implying there's a longer than average pause - since Gary now switched Mike's original question - that's when Gary seems to push with his own explanation.
    TL;DR:
    Clever. Scummy, but clever.

It can be used therapeutically to imply healing and getting better to a client "think of the things you have already done to get better" for example, implying that the client HAS done such things. Sadly it can also be used to sell bullshit. Anyhow, the knowledge is good, it is up to you if you will use it to help or to harm :)

Yeah, it seems like a classic psychopathic, narcissistic response. My perception is that Gary V. pretends to have empathy and plants how you should feel in your mind without allowing you to be lead there through critical thought. I'm not saying he does this maliciously or that my perception is even true. I just don't get a feeling that Gary has real empathy for people and all his responses to tough questions are practiced and don't allow you time to think or counter.

You could spend two days taking free online courses from Google and Facebook, picking up skills (and free certifications from Google) that you could apply to any online business, then use the money you would have wasted in tickets an £1997 be courses and spend it instead on ads, getting real world experience, traffic, and probably a few conversions, resulting in an immediate return on the same investment.

Mad respect for Mike not just giving Gary a pass because of his proximity to him and their project together.
Personally, I think Gary does a lot of good and means well, but at the end of the day, you just can’t defend someone’s involvement in an event like Success Recourses. I’m glad Mike didn’t.
I have personally never attended one of these events or bought one of these courses but I know a lot of young entrepreneurs that have and I have witnessed the damage it has done both financially and mentally.
I know guys and gals that have literally given up on their businesses because they spent the last few dollars they had on courses and when those courses didn’t help, they figured it was a lost cause and quit.
Gary is bringing validity to this event whether he realizes it or not. Those that might be skeptical of the pitches may also let their guard down if they think Gary is there so it must be legit... Gary is too smart to not realize this is happening.
Keep up the great work Mike! My only concern has been that Gary might be using your platform to distance himself as far as possible from these contrepreneurs, when he himself does indulge in some of the same practices (not nearly at the same level). Great to see you are not just giving him a pass.

I told him Grant isn't a real estate investor as you think conventionally, he's a marketer. The guys mind was blown, and when he told me that Tony told him to start a business and have someone do all the work, but give them a 60 40 split. I said that was the dumbest shit I've heard. People just believe anything without fact checking and verifying anything. Iv've traveled the world and flown first class while spending tons of time in executive lounges talking to rich and successful people. One thing I've learned is they will tell you how to get from A to B but never to C. The money and time these people waste looking for them to get magic beans could've been better served and rewarded by doing their own research. I do the exact opposite of what these guys say and now I'm retired at 36 with my own business on auto pilot. People, nobody is going to make you rich but yourself, all of the information is out here. Stop looking for a savior because he ain't coming.

There's no con here. That's why you have to sharpen your criticisms in this business. The OP has no "ask".
YOU might've thought to yourself; "what did he learn from the elite that helped him create his business?". But he didn't lead you on that he was going to tell you. No "ask". No sell.
Yes, he "called to authority" at the end of his piece. He did that to justify his sentiments, as we all do to one degree or another.
The point (to the best of my understanding) is that you have to do the work yourself, you can't pay your way out of it (esp. between steps A & B).
Paying for 2 days to have someone tell you how to work is 48 hours of effort you are not going to get back. Time is money, the only limited resource of real value. The information you need is free on the internet, esp. if you are trying to ask the right questions. It's never been easier to get what you need for nothing.

Guys, I also believe that the internet is the best resource when it comes to learning anything that doesn't require specialized knowledge. The real people that have money arent really on social media a lot of the time and the ones that are on social media will sell you ideas and the whole notion of seeing them online with fancy cars and private jets sells the idea that whatever advise they give you will also work for you. How many people have attended these seminars and have the actual results to show for it.

Mike, I went to the exact same event in London you refer to, (two days of my life I'm never getting back!!)
I vowed NEVER EVER to got to another "Success at bleeding from my eyes Resources" events again!!!
Before that I was a HUGE Gary V fan, but I couldn't, (still cant) rationalise how he can associate himself with such Event Sales Scammers. He has his own speaker company Vaynerspeakers, which he launched to show the industry "how it should be done", why isnt he speaking through them?. I could forgive him for associating with "Success bullsht Resources" once and learning the hard way, but seeing this circus come around again a year later makes me very sad that his intent isnt quite what I thought it was.
You make a good point Mike about Daniel Priestley, he was probably very worth listening to, especially as he wasn't pitching a course or a book.... but to be honest, by the time he came on I was so punch drunk from being pummeled by the previous 'speakers' Id lost the will to live and the energy to pay attention.
Thank you for making this film and portraying exactly the level of frustration and disappointment that I came away with from that London event.
It still smarts now that I will never get those 2 days back that I could have spent working on and in my business. Time , the one perishable asset that Gary himself values almost as much as attention.
Does he really think my spending 2 days listening to all the previous BS was worth it to perceive his added value?
Thats the question id like to ask him.

I have been debating it for exactly the reasons Gary stated. It see how he handles the stage and learn from that.
Gary is very genuine for me and has shown me it's ok to put out your best stuff because most don't bother implementing and it gets lost fast in a sea of the digital black hole. I have learnt a huge amount from Gary.
What's holding me back, the fact this is Success Resources and what comes with it. I'd still love the opportunity to observe Gary on stage. Still undecided.
Question I'd love to ask, how can I turn stage time into a genuine experience and still get on stage? I spoke at Masters of Success and Super Power Live, initially lured in that I was getting to speak freely at these events, then landed up what I was 'allowed' to speak about last minute which basically forced me on stage to give a testimonial I never agreed to give. I did my best to make it about connecting and my 'ask/sell' was for people to connect with me. My story was about the connections I had made. The first time, I was so nervous but I did my best to keep the focus on me but I had no choice to fit in with their 'formula'. Second time, they made sure I wouldn't prepare and moved me to the first instead of third day and told me when I got there. More or less repeated the same thing as the previous one and left the event. Walked away from everything after that.
So! How to make it a successful experience and get on stage, that's my question?

I paid $800 to Charles Givens and $600 to Wade Cook. They were both "entrepreneurs" of the type presented here. There is great irony in those expenditures. Because I spent that much money on them, I listened intently to all of the tapes. I wanted to be a success. I followed much of the advice. No matter what happened, I save more money every month because of both of them than I spent on their programs.
I keep seeing the adverts for guys selling variations of this crap. Because of Givens and Cook, I am inclined to always say NO!. I turn to the person asking and tell them. Given and Cook both wrote books that had all of the information that was in their tapes. For $60 I could have had the same information. (Maybe it was $30, $15/book).
The information in the books was a little more boring than the tapes.
But the flip side of this is not easy. Getting up on stage and chanting "YOU DON'T NEED THIS INFORMATION" has sold how many books!

@Mike Winnet Organizers most likely either have investors, or have enough capital from the previous conference to fund future conferences. They can probably invite who ever they wish. Gary gets paid to preach his message then goes home without selling you a course.
If you watch the interview GC did with Gary on GC show you'll see and FEEL the difference. It's an awkward interview but you'll see a ton of contrast. One preaches not to focus on the money while the other tries to control the interview by pushing wishful identification.
One resells you the conference the other one gives it to you for free on TH-cam.
Oh and when he uploads the video he doesn't promote the conference. You'll just see his speech. Sure it's advertisment for his brand a.k.a social media content but who doesn't do that now a days?

Interestingly I went to a SR event back in 2016 to see Tony Robbins, it WAS actually worth the wait and all the pitches. I KNEW I would be pitched at. As an NLP practitioner and student of Psychology myself, I actually watched the speakers to see if I could pick up anything useful/interesting from the pitches and watching the audience reactions and I certainly did. There were some people who did it well and relatively ethically and then there were others who were appallingly shameless and ripping people off... Either way I learned a lot, so for me it was worth it. OH and I THINK it was "free" although it was in London, so I did have to pay for travel and accommodation, but I used National Express and Hostels, so really probably less than £100 for the whole 2 days and honestly the 60-90 minutes with Tony Robbins was actually well worth that! :D

I’m waiting for someone successful to make a living trolling this entire market by setting up events, giving real info, but poking fun at everything in the industry.
To do this I think the company has to be making enough money on its own before it starts a tour like this, if so it could just poke all at the industry. Say charge $197 for the info, but ensure that everyone who can prove they have a pulse gets $197 off and then give them the google link to videos for whatever training they have.
I think you could make this a massive comedy skit and it’d be great pro bono work lol. (Could leave donation boxes at the exits for charity.)

I'm gonna be totally real with you, anyone that doesn't have highly specific tactics to overcome the very specific obstacle i'm facing is an instant no to me. "hustle" anyone that says that phrase 1000x immediately suspicious I don't think they're totally worthless for everyone. Some people may get value but for me, and what I'm looking for all these guys are a plague. And, worse they manipulate search results to where you can never find what your looking for. "doctor in dallas" search results - 10 day course to be a the millionaire dr. of instagram lol.

@@CobraAquinas There's a deep truth in "hustle". Succes doesn't come over night. I see it like this. Do you want to become succesful? Be prepared to not do a 9-5 but a 6am-12am job. Keep that up for as long as you can, until you're actually making money while you sleep. Delegate all your work. Invest into something new. repeat. Th way these speakers present the work tho, is not at all representative of the work you'll have to put in.

@@thespector8587 Yeah, i hear you man, there's no way to interpret exactly where someone's coming from on the internet or what their experience level is so I'm going to assume you're coming from a genuine well meaning place. Imagine, you wanted to cross a busy intersection in a major city on foot. And, then imagine I created a seminar where I yelled about waiting til the light is green. Constantly is that true that, that works? yes, and it's confirmed by everyone that it's obviously true so you feel successful hearing this truth. However, what if you didn't know you had to press a button for the the light to turn green? what about basic safety like having your shoes tied so you don't fall in the road. Walk don't run the basics. What about different cities have different rules for where you can walk, and when you can walk across. You see, all i'm saying is to provide value it may not be as popular because it's more in detail, and there's a real need for it there's an over saturation of " wait for the light to be green" I hope you see where I'm coming from, and I want you to know I respect you as a person, and I don't intend to demean or belittle you because we're on the internet and not face to face.
