He really did do a good job. Would have been much better looked on if the movie was more serious and less campy. Maybe if we get the Schumacher Cut we will have a new appreciation for his performance.
kilmer was probably a better bruce wayne/ batman than Keaton, it's just the movie had a poor script and warner brother deleted a bunch of scenes to make it mcdonalds and kid friendly
There’s one memory I will cherish forever and that’s being a small child watching Batman Forever with my father, grandfather, and uncle some holiday on the living room tv while everyone else was in the kitchen or outside doing who knows what. Both my father and grandfather had past but it’s a memory of the four of us that’ll never leave me.
What a awesome memory. I had something similar. Spending time with your family while watching Batman forever. Those memorize are priceless. Thank you sharing! :)
thewierddood I know right. I would have loved to see him voice Batman cause his voice was amazing in Forever. Hope everything is going well with him now tho
Bob Kane said the same about all live Batmen, after all he wasn't even its creator, but Bill Finger was, Kane was just a públic face, money maker and sugar daddy, the last thing he cared of is Batman.
Its great to hear that both Val & Michael wanted to go in that direction of Batman that Nolan made. I'm just trying to Imagine Keaton's Batman in Nolan's world.
The Crowd really did go insane cause when we asked him to do the Batman voice he looked us directly in the eyes and said "NO!" Then like 20 minutes later he did it randomly and it was an amazing experience :)
Wow, Kilmer really gets Batman. And you can tell he's a fan, he knows what he's talking about and he actually cares for the character and for Nolan's version. He's very respectful to the new material, unlike Keaton (as much as I love him) who acts like he just doesn't care for any other version than his own.
In 2005, I was really fortunate to get the opportunity as a student journalist to interview him at the Boston Film Festival, along with Shane Black, the writer director, for the debut of their film, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. I got to sit directly across from him at a small conference table, with 4 other college students, and get 40 minutes to ask questions, and found him to be incredibly animated, entertaining, and insightful. I appreciated this video where I see more of those familiar traits, and was glad to see in his Amazon doc, that despite his illness, he has still maintained a great sense of humor and a desire to entertain.
Had I seen Schumacher's original version of Batman Forever Val's would probably be my favorite Batman iteration although he will always be my favorite actor to ever play the role.
My first movie experience was with BATMAN FOREVER... asked my brother to go see it, but turned it down... ended up going with my sister to a not so good movie theater... and it was all woth it... had the best experience of my life.
Val was actually my favorite bruce. he nailed it in a way the other guys didn't - Bob Kane even said so. maybe one day he'll get his chance in a serious batman flick :)
What Bob Kane says Matters little to nothing, he was not its true creator, but just a públic face Who cares little to nothing about Batman. He said the same about all the live portrays.
though my mom told me that she took me to see batman (1989) when i was only a few months old, it was batman: forever that i first truly remember seeing and enjoying. my family has always been batman fans.
Back then he was hands down, the sexiest Bat Man ever. Also he has a brilliant mind. He has such a special gift. He's funny & has a great sense of humor.
Wow when he said "I'm Batman" the crowd must have went crazy lol. Kilmer was my favorite batman when I was little. Now I have a hard time choosing between him and Keaton
I feel like a dick for pointing these things out, but, 1) Bob Kane didn't create Batman. He _sort of_ co-created batman and 2) batman has been around since 1939, meaning he's in his early 70s now, not 50s.
Well don't! I read a long but interesting blog about Kane being very 'creative' and 'productive' with all the batman stuff, and everything stated in the blog was supported with evidence/material so you get to dive in all the shit that happened. If it's all true, Kane's an assmunch to say the very least. Also giving Bill Finger the credit he deserved, just after he died, that's just cold...
rsKnDR Yeah, no, Kane was a total prick. He was a pretty crap artist, too. Looking through old batman comics I've actually found examples of him tracing his own ghost artists, which is just laughable. There's not much to like about the guy.
I watched "Val" - and it turns out I knew nothing about VK as the man. He's WILDLY creative. A really funny guy - and very emotionally alive. I'm sure he might have been a bit difficult to work with - I suspect all true artists are to some degree. But I have a totally new found respect for the guy and I think he had a bad press for a long time.
I always though his face was the absolute best in the suit, those 2 movies with him and clooney were just soo weird though, seems like a very nice and down to earth guy, I mean he's the ICE MAN!
Val Kilmer was the best Batman hands down Since I loved him as him he played Bruce and Batman both romantic and dramatic and shy , charming man as more he played him as a real character not just a cardboard cutout he was the most sincere potential of him that I cannot imagine anyone else .
we'll never know for sure, but maybe. i think clooney is a great actor and I would have loved to see him as a more serious batman without the rubber nipples. Im glad that his suit at the end, the sonar suit, didn't have nipples
It’s good to hear he really did care for the character, and how he believes how the character SHOULD’VE been portrayed. Sorry, in this day and age in the film industry, Batman isn’t for kids. If the kids wanna watch Batman, they can watch the Animated Series reruns.
Kilmer lost his father during Tombstone? This now has me thinking anytime he was drunk as Doc Holliday he was really drunk. Looking sweaty and hungover looked all too natural.
Met Val Kilmer at Comicon 2017 maybe 2018 cant remember the exact year cause i went to both in Indianapolis. Great guy, but seemed to be having trouble talking. I was was actually worried about him. Met lots of other cool people too. Millie Bobby Brown from Stranger Things, Charles Martinet The guy who is the voice of Mario in the games and cartoons, Jason Lee Scott, the original Red Power Ranger, Charlie Cox The Daredevil, which i was watching the series at the time so that was really cool.
I think that Kilmer was such an underrated Batman. It wasnt Kilmer that hurt Batman Forever,it was the whole cheese factor, that the film had. If Burton would have written and directed that movie with a darker tone,Kilmer as Batman and no Robin, would have been awesome.
+Donnie Scott But you know Warner Bros. was really desperated to have lots of money due to Batman Returns' flop, so they literally forced Schumacher to make The Dark Knight more family-friendly.
He was such a good looking guy I had a crush on him During the interview his voice was so gentle He is lucky that ihis 2 children support him I hope he doesn, t go back to the Scientology bc that,s how he got in this bad healh they teach that God was going to heal him He had become skin and bones until his 2 children convinced him to seek treatment He is not at its best but he is alive
While Keaton and Bale are my favourite Batmans, Kilmer did do a pretty decent job. I mean, he wasn't amazing but he wasn't terrible. Honestly, I think Batman (and Two-Face} kinda got shafted by The Riddler. It seemed like Schumacher was too obsessed with either Riddler or Jim Carry, and just kinda added Two Face and Batman to kill in the blanks of when the camera wasn't focused on Riddler. I like Carry, but it was a waste of Kilmer and Jones' talent.
I know we are only seeing him shoulders up, but Val appears to have lost some weight here, he looks good. Have always been a big Kilmer fan. Ever since Top Secret.
Wish we got The Schumacher Cut as the Theatrical Cut. I also wish Schumacher got creative control with B&R and that Val returned. Would have made both films instantly better
daym so many of u guys are so negative, why don't u just appreciate the different style of batman that each actor has portrayed. I'd like to see any of you go and act as well as they have.
This is very true. Too many people are too close minded and aren't open to interpretation or adaptation. Any thoughts and opinions on Will Arnett, David Mazouz, Ben Affleck, and Iain Glen?

KIlmer was a great Batman. At the time, he had it. He is an enormously gifted actor. People overlook the things that Kilmer has done..
He's certainly enormous now!
lairdriver he was weak & bland as Bruce Wayne
Malachy Smith Wayne was at one point like that
@@edwinmalachy I think that was the point
He really did do a good job. Would have been much better looked on if the movie was more serious and less campy. Maybe if we get the Schumacher Cut we will have a new appreciation for his performance.
Worth noting that his Bruce Wayne was the bomb
Christian Bale, too!
And Micheal Keaton buddy. He’s the real Batman!
kilmer was probably a better bruce wayne/ batman than Keaton, it's just the movie had a poor script and warner brother deleted a bunch of scenes to make it mcdonalds and kid friendly
And Val Killer too... Yeah?
Kilmer wasn't a bad Batman, he was just trapped in a lackluster movie that was barely about his character. He was fine IMO.
batman forever is my favorite movie and kilmer is my favorite actor nr 2
he had the perfect voice for batman
TheDalinkwent I also think so, he's an underrated batman
they cut out his best scenesno wonder he didn't return for the sequel
he was pretty good as batman
Nostalgia cant let me hate Batman Forever.
agreed 100% :))
so how come it doesnt work with batman and robin?! lolz
DBOG simply because bat&rob movie really sucks ! :))
Kongoliz If Val Kilmer did batman and robin, instead of George Clooney, it'd be a better movie
Declan Stewart I don't know for sure . very tough question buddy
I love Batman Forever, Val will go down as an amazing Batman

Same I love it too!!!
It’s the best of the franchise
The best
Val Kilmer looks like Richard Tyson from Kindergarten Cop in this clip
Can't unsee
Jrod Fakename hahaha no
And Richard Tyson looks like Jim Morrison... and Val Kilmer played Jim Morrison in a film!
He should do a voice over for an animated Batman, his is the best live-action Batman voice.
Its so sad now since he's lost his voice
thewierddood I know right. I would have loved to see him voice Batman cause his voice was amazing in Forever. Hope everything is going well with him now tho
He can't...
Val Kilmer will always be my favorite. He's my Batman. He did it pretty well.
Bob Kane said Val Kilmer was his favorite Batman and was the most true to his vision.
#releasetheschumachercut
I do still wish we got to know what Bill Finger thought. It must be nice for Joel and Val to know Bob said that though
Bob Kane said the same about all live Batmen, after all he wasn't even its creator, but Bill Finger was, Kane was just a públic face, money maker and sugar daddy, the last thing he cared of is Batman.
3:37 That was very interesting what he said about Spielberg and Lucas.
If I was doing the next Batman movie, I'd get him to do Commissioner Gordon.
Thanks it's been a dream of mine to meet Kilmer since I was a like 8, I am finally glad I got to sit down and hear such incredible stories from him.
the audio quality is amazing!
I love how he looks straight into the camera.
I think Val Kilmer was the best Bruce Wayne
This is the most vocal I’ve seen him about the Batman subject. Dude never use to talk about this
Yeh we made sure to bring it up first thing we could
Its great to hear that both Val & Michael wanted to go in that direction of Batman that Nolan made. I'm just trying to Imagine Keaton's Batman in Nolan's world.

Leave the man alone i mean come on he's not 25 anymore, let the man grow old happy
VAL WAS THE BEST BATMAN EVER ACCORDING TO THE ORIGINAL COMIC BOOKS! THANKS TO HIM FOR HIS WORK!!!
This is so sad to watch now. He says he wanted to do voice work and then ended up with throat cancer and lost his voice. So sad.
Between Madmartigan, Iceman, Doc Holliday and Batman this dude was a legend for me growing up!
Did you ever see him as Nick Rivers? He nailed that one too.
Batman Forever was great, love that movie.
P Ferreira me too
The best
@@illuminati8181 It's become very underrated.
I'm your huckleberry

I always liked Val's Batman. A lot.
I aswell. He was always in my Top 5 for live action, directly at #4. Now he's grown to be my #2 for best and is actually like #3 or #4 for favorite
This dude is a pretty legendary actor that starred in some big films during the late 80s and 90s cinema.
Val's awesome. His Doc Holiday is legendary and Kiss Kiss Bang Bang was amazing. .
My first movie experience was with BATMAN FOREVER... asked my brother to go see it, but turned it down... ended up going with my sister to a not so good movie theater... and it was all woth it... had the best experience of my life.
The Val Documentary is superb.
This audience laughs at anything this guy says
Val: oh I worked with Jim carrey
Audience: hahahahaha
Val: this water is great
Audience: hahahaha
People are easily entertained.
They have already seen Kilmer in movies and have a type of rapport.
Don Corleone lol

Man Kilmer would have been awesome in the Nolan batman movies... If he was 10 years younger it would have been perfect
Kilmer, and the Panthersuit.
though my mom told me that she took me to see batman (1989) when i was only a few months old, it was batman: forever that i first truly remember seeing and enjoying. my family has always been batman fans.
Still the best voice of batman of all time.
That is true. Pattinson seems to be bringing some competition
I admit it. I freaking love Batman Forever.
this guy looks every time more like Marlon Brando. It is incredible they acted together in the last version of the Island of doctor Moreau.
Back then he was hands down, the sexiest Bat Man ever. Also he has a brilliant mind. He has such a special gift. He's funny & has a great sense of humor.
Kevin Conroy, Michael Keaton, AND Christian Bale.
I'd also include Val Kilmer and Adam West. For the time of the 2020s, Ben Affleck and Val Kilmer

ow I wouldn't know man, I don't follow the comics or other storylines aside from the movies :)
He would be older than that since he would be 30 when he started so he would be 100 years old
megajimmystewart I was just referring to the age of the character in the real world, not in canon. But yeah, that's a pretty weird thought.
Val Kilmer was a underrated Batman. He should get in shape and come back.
JR sadly I don’t think that will happen. 😢
Prince of Egypt was amazing.
the batman wouldnt say bathroom , hed say i have to go to the batroom

Val Kilmer Batman

val is still the best Batman and Bruce prefect Batman voice
You're totally right, and he has the acting ability, too.
i thought kilmer nailed it as bruce wayne he was a pretty good wayne
All the Batmans were great. Clooney did what he could with that horrible movie, but had he been cast in a serious film, he would have nailed it.

All I see is Clooney dressed up, I see no Batman with him. Sorry.
This makes me like him a little better as a Batman (knowing he didn't like the direction it was going). He was a good Batman.
Whenever I see Val the first and second movies that come to mind are: Willow and Real Genius.
For me it's real Genius & him as Jim Morrison in The Doors

best batman and the only Doc
Such a great actor
Tombstone and the Saint alone make him one of the greats
Dude, at least he has the Batman chin... In my book by far the best Batman look-wise!!! Movie-wise it is pretty clear I guess.
it's a good thing that he got out of the franchise when he did.

Best Bruce Wayne ever. Deserved a better film and more than one
Wish we got The Schumacher Cut as the Theatrical Cut. I also wish Schumacher got creative control with B&R and that Val returned. Would have made both films instantly better
Val Kilmer is the best Batman and Batman Forever is great. Nolan missed all the fun and the fantasy of the comic book.
Most true. Nolan missed out on most of it while keeping like very little. I do like that the fear gas was kept and Bane's natural super strength
Can't believe how went from he was at that time to how he turn up to be now, the years just haven't been kind at all to him wish you well Val.
The first Batman film I ever had on VHS Val was also my favorite for the longest time... People who give his Batman shit are stupid!
Always wished i had a secret tunnel in my office nostalgia val was good and in willow
Val Kilmer actually did look good as Batman. He worked as Batman and Bruce Wayne. The vibe of the movie was definitely more for kids.
you can check the whole panel out at blip. tv/comicbookjerk TH-cam won't allow me to post past 15 minutes cause they hate me :(

Handsomest Batman though Bale got the better script. Val has the most gorgeous mouth and smile which is all that could be seen in the mask.
