I think Nwaneri starts vs Southampton. I also expect the team to be more ruthless. Leicester was an important lesson for us that thankfully didn’t cost us, don’t take teams for granted just because we’re out of our tough run of fixtures. Southampton were the worst team in the division two seasons ago and we couldn’t beat them home or away in a title race

Hey Charles. Looking ahead of the PSG game, i think Nwaneri should start this game even though we face the champions of France. He proved both as a starter and substitute that he can make an impact. PSG has a lot of injuries on their players and if we are careful of Dembele, Neves or Lee we can definitely win them on home. Nwaneri showcased his potential and i think playing in the Champions league should be the next big step for him.

Yes Calafiori probably deserves a second yellow for that action but then his first yellow was very soft... and moments later Leicester's Skipp gets a yellow for a very soft pull... Trossard and Saka got man handled as they were probably through next to the box (both on the left wing): no foul....I'm getting more and more confused about what constitutes a foul, a yellow, a red...

Wonderful 3 points especially when Cheater dropped points 💪
All the good bits aside, Calafiori missed the run of Justin for our second goal conceded ... no way he'd strike that near perfect volley if Calafiori put pressure on him... Trossard chased back but missed the challenge by a fraction... I suppose Calafiori is adapting to both LB position (even thou he played previously ) and the PL and would soon iron out some loose bits.
With Calafiori and Timber integrated as full backs ... wow... tasty 😋
Having White and Tomi/Tierney /Zinchenko (sell 2 of 3 asap) for fullback backup &rotation is mega even by PL standard
The right attack trio/triangle of Saka/Odegarrd /White has shouldered two third of our results last season since Xhaka exited. Very much enjoying the formation of the left version aka Martinelli /Merino/Calafiori ! Merino yet to play but when this left triangle is functioning...we'd be salivating 😋😋😮

Thanks Charles. I'm glad we won it in the end. But I think there's something weird when we play at home compared to playing away. We always seem to be prone to conceding goals at home than we are away even though reverse ought to be the case. Call it bad luck, complacency or whatever but I'm more confident in our team keeping clean sheets away than at home.

Nwaneri gave that extra impetus when he came on n it's encouraging. Another positive was Sakas using his right foot quite often is a good sign. From the negative point our defensive holding midfielder was found wanting. Rice will be a better choice but then Nwaneri can take his offensive role replacing Partey. Califiori is good in attacking but his defensive play needs improvement. Lucky to escape a 2nd yellow . What we need is now proper game management and closing a game after 2-0 lead..We have a promising time ahead.

Great 3pts, Ethan looked like a man on a mission when he came on, really got the crowd behind us. The referee had a stinker to be honest, Vardy should have got a foul (glad he didn’t), the booking for Cala was a 50-50 (probably realised later and didn’t book him a 2nd time) and the Saliba one was just a coming together, not a yellow.

I think this game re-ignites the chance conversion conversation. It might be difficult for us to integrate a new 'centre forward' into our system but we do need to find an answer to the low shot conversion of Havertz, Jesus and Martinelli. They are brilliant players and as a team we score plenty of goals - but not necessarily in the most difficult situations.

A few things I learnt from the game:
    1. Partey is quite past his best, he’s was too tentative and predictable in possession.
    2. Nwaneri deserves more playing time. He was dynamic, bold, unpredictable. He caused Leicester City so much chaos in the few minutes he was on.
    3. Kalafiori is not a natural LB and it showed a few times. He has more to learn in that role but is a big plus to the team already
    4. Leicester city have a gem of a goalie, wow!
    5. We will win the league! I wish we had a punisher up front though, a worldie striker.

Hi Charles enjoying the content always as usual. Must have been a special moment taking your son to his first game, it got my thinking about my first game - Henry’s return against Leeds in 2012.
I was watching the game at home with my dad (who is a Leicester fan) and I have to points that I’d like to share. 1. The referees have definitely been instructed to give yellow cards out more frequently, as some of those yellows were ridiculously soft for both sides. 2. I think it is slightly worrying how much we took our foot off the gas after half time, especially considering the quality of the league - there are no easy games. We definitely deserved to win but I’m a bit worried at how relaxed we seemed to be even at 2-1.
I’m also hearing Calafiori has done his ACL in the celebrations - is this true? Thanks!

Calafiori often goes on a man marking as he’s an aggressive FB and 95/100 times will win the ball but when it doesn’t work, you are exposed with a lot of space behind you for the opponents to utilize.
At some point we’ll have to use Gabriel as a wide CB. In yesterday’s game, Saliba was made to be the only defender who stays on the center line to break transitions with 8 of our on field players on the final third
We looked to dominate them very high and when they succeeded in getting the ball high up, it becomes a problem for us.
We wouldn’t play like this against all oppositions but we‘re going to see some of these tactics being used as we‘ll look to overload the oppositions final third.

This is quite minimal in the bigger picture but I am a bit concerned about calafiori positioning in the game. Last week he was at fault for the first goal against city but you can accept a mistake but then yesterday he was poorly positioned for the chance in the first half where he managed to recover to block the shot. The second goal from Justin was amazing but again he was out of position and failed to recover. That’s 3 big mistakes in 2 games which at the level we want to be is not very good. For me I’d revert back to timber LB and white RB when white is fit again.

The number of yellow cards seems to going up with new directives like kicking the ball away etc. Does this basically all go to the PGMOL or the league? Hi Charles .
You made a statement last season where you stated that Gabriel Jesus was without a doubt our Greatest attacker. Out of our 6 attackers today could you please state the order of goal contributors you perceive by the end of the season. My list is as Follows .
Haverts at 1 Saka at 2 Rahime at 3 Trossard at 4 Martinelli at 5 and Gabriel at 6.This is a goal contibution list so both goals and assist apply irrespective of games and minutes played.😮

Charles, what are you talking about? If I remember rightly, prior to the start of this game you wanted Nwaneri, starting over Trossard … Trossard who had a hand in at least two goals yesterday. Arteta got it right to not start Nwaneri and bring him on as a late substitute.
I believe that just like Phil Foden was eased into professional football by Pep, the same sort of approach needs to be taken with Nwaneri.

My thought on yesterday match: Do you think Arsenal is still facing the same left back problem considering the second goal we conceded yesterday, and the first goal conceded against Man City last week coming from Calafiori side?

I think your rating for Rice is a little harsh (yes, I know 6 isn’t bad). He absolutely dominated the midfield and had them through time after time. It was one of those games where he just made everything look effortless. I’d have given him a 7, if not an 8.

Charles, loved seeing you take your son to his first game! But on Nwaneri, just because you think he looks ready to start, doesn't mean he deserves to start ahead of Trossard (or someone else). Trossard has demonstrated consistent impact from the bench and is finally starting due to Odegaard's injury. He's also a Belgium international with a ton of PL/CL experience. To start Nwaneri ahead of him because of a good game against Bolton and a good cameo against Leicester is insane. You're getting carried away and I think you should think more with your head instead of your heart. But love the content mate

I was surprised Arteta actually put Nwaneri on in a tie game, before Jesus nonetheless. He seldom trusts a young player to do wonders.
And the two very harsh yellow cards to Saliba and Calafiori in the first few minutes of the second half absolutely threw us off balance.

    Hi Charles.
I feel that a lot of the fan base are tired of seeing "positive signs" from Jesus. The fitness issues with Tierney, Partey, Zinny, Tomy and Jesus have just left many of us underwhelmed when they "show positive signs", only to pick up another knock, to then recover and show "positive signs"...
Cheers bud! Have a great Sunday.

He seems to have lost his head a bit. He seems more concerned with him scoring than doing what's best for the team. Doesn't seem happy playing football also, judging by his reactions yesterday and in the Bolton game

Nwaneri injected aggression, pace and dribbling to drive our final part of the assault which before his intro was rather , ummm, passive with the usual passing from left to right to left etc in an U shape outside the box.... we needed to attempt more through balls... be bold, so what if it didnt work out with our robust MF and defence? Gabriel, Rice even Calafiori could have made several...
If Cooper& the media argue Calafiori should get a 2nd yellow, wed similarly argue his 1st card wasn't justified. Also, a LEI player stopped us from a quick throw in in the 2H where's the card ?? Arteta et al were all hands up lol...and of course the Ndidi kicking the ball away and his stamp on Martinelli ??? Cooper should focus on his team performance than fueling the bitching post game😢

I love the passion but let's cool it....Ethan is still growing. There is a lot of things you can notice he needs to improve on and they could easily be exposed against top flight teams. His off the ball positioning and footballing IQ has still not caught up to his on ball abilities. That will take some time. Let's stop underestimating premier league teams, points are not handed out. They are earned. Just look at how hard Liverpool had to fight against Wolves.

In my opinion, Partey had a bad game. He lost the ball before both goals (or the freekick for the goal).
But I think we have to get Rice back to the 6. I think he looks lost sometimes at the 8.

I guess we'll gradually see more games of Rice playing as 6 and Partey on the bench, once Merino fully recovers and gets used to the team. He's probably the closest player to Xhaka in our current squad.
