@Black PantherYeah you get varying degrees of aviator literacy online I'm sure,especially in public lobbies. I go way back with flight sims, just nothing this deep. I am the kind of guy who will study the systems and learn the plane I choose. Looking forward to that aspect of it. Fluent with the controls just need to learn a plane. Probably start with Spit then F14 or FA18. Can't wait.
Im on the way as well, about 10 weeks out from getting my rig, then another 10-20 weeks for the learning curve then ill see you all in-game sometime around next February! 😂😂
The gunship normally has a reflective gunsight to the left of the pilot for aiming the fixed 20mm gatlings. The 105 is on a steerable mount and is controlled from the gunners' booth in the cargo bay.
From the looks of the visual model and the cockpit, it appears those are AC130J aircraft as opposed to U models. Unique J characteristics are, black rubber boot on the tail, 6 blade props, glass cockpit, HUD, and bitching Betty, lol. The visual models also look like stretched versions too. Also... I can look at the radio configuration on top of the aircraft and see that it's pretty accurate to real life. Former Lockheed C130 Simulator Systems Engineer.
As far as the weapons load, its definitely a U-model. Except the calibers listed are wrong. A U-model was equipped with a [25] mm Vulcan, a [40] mm Bofars, and a 105 mm Howitzer. The J-model is equipped with a 30 mm Autocannon, installed where the 25 mm vulcan would be on a U-model. And it lacks the 40 mm Bofars, although it retains the 105. The J-model also adds some more fun with small diameter bombs and missiles. So basically this is a C-130J (Long) with a AC-130U's weapons.

This excersize is interesting. A fundamental retraining regarding tools, but you still need to follow "old combat rules". Having the gun in 90 degrees of boresight is really a good test of manouvering flexibility (in your mind). 90 degrees is especially interesting, because it is an important angle in normal dogfight.

Something that helps me with setting a collision course in video games is using proportional navigation. Basically what you do is set you velocity vector in front of the target's direction of travel and then keep the target on the same angle off of the velocity vector. As long as you are closing distance and the target is not moving in any other direction relative to you then you are on a collision course. It's the same technique that early sidewinders use.

What's the current State of the Hercules mod ? Has the development stopped? There was some rumor that ED might be up to develop their own Hercules, which caused the modders to stop. Any news about it?

I was a maintainer for both the U and J model gunships. The airframe and cockpit you have is of the J-model but the weapons are wrong. The J has a 30mm chain gun at the front and a 105mm in the back. It has pylons on the wings for bombs or hellfire missles and the cargo door is fitted with downward facing agm missles is disposable tubes. The U-model (retired) had a 25mm gattling in the front, a ww2 40mm bofors aa gun and 105mm in the back next to each other.
You flying on Main Road of Las Vegas Boulevard remind me of the movie Con Air where they try to crash-land AC-130 on Vegas Boulevard with a bunch of prisoners in it
This reminds me of Jane's ATF. I used to land the AC-130 on the ground and taxi in circles firing the guns while the AI tried to straff me. It did help that the guns were auto aiming!
Fantastic, dumb fun! Went to vegas in 2019 and was very surprise just how narrow the strip was (though it’s is weird, the buildings are gargantuan too my British eyes). From oceans 11 and con air I thought it was much bigger than irl.
He called the stratosphere casino the alien building, all my life growing up there and it never dawned on me to call it an alien building. At least DCS does justice for my hometown. Dirty south Henderson baby!
FWIW: As best as I can recall, the HC-130H {1500 Series} Hercules I worked on in the US Coast Guard had an empty weight around 79,000 - 80,000 pounds. Each airframe had slightly different empty weight.

All of the mounts are steerable. But they have to be pointed downward to fire.

prob not. ac130 even with its current set of weapons is only designed for ground combat. it may survive for a bit but eventually it will be shot down.
