I've been doing morning pages for about a month now. Immediately following morning pages, as soon as I put my pen and book down, I've been making a conscious habit to meditate for at least 10 minutes, focusing on breath work and body scanning. I've been noticing a quiet but noticeable change for the better in my mood, my self-esteem and my ability to stay present and focused throughout the day over the past month. This video is lovely and so warm, thank you for sharing. You have a very soothing and sweet voice. :)
That is such a wise and wonderful way to have your morning. I may start doing that after my morning pages now too! I'm so glad you have noticed a noticeable change in your mood for each of your days. That's wonderful!!!
I noticed that too! The difference between meditation after morning pages and otherwise is night and day, for me. I have ADHD, so it really helps to clear out the ol' subconscious before expecting myself to find focus.
I've been searching TH-cam for The Artist Way/Morning Pages videos and found a few that were quite helpful. However, I truly appreciate the tips and advice you gave in your videos! I started morning pages a few years ago and stopped doing them because I was trying so hard to box myself into Julia Cameron's way or her creative journey when what I should have done was take her advice and tailor it to my own creative way, as you have nicely explained in this video! Thank you so much for sharing your insights and now I'm intrigued to see what else you do on this channel! Take care.💕
I am thrilled you found my video to help you tailor your morning pages and how to go about The Artist's Way to your needs! I love her book and how she gets people to try things, but I definitely needed to modify it to my needs and I'm glad others are breaking free from the box they might put themselves in. Thank you for your lovely comment!! I appreciate you!
Oh I'm so glad this video can help you see that morning pages can be as easy and accessible as you need it to be. No need to follow the rules exactly when you are struggling with it! 😝 I hope you enjoy your morning pages now!!
These are great tips, thank you. I too am going to start with the morning pages and artist's dates for now and worry about reading the book and doing he rest of the exercises later. It sounds fabulous the way you describe it.
Wow, this is so kind of you to say. I am thrilled that I had a small part in helping your art journey and getting yourself out of a funk. We all have those and it's nice when you can find inspiration to help. Thank you for your kind words and I am happy to hear your on the up and up! Good luck with all your art you create - which btw, what do you like to create?
I like to do lots of digital art, creating characters, and making my own stickers. I am also creating a small animated show and working on small online store. That’s also fun.
Wow that sounds so amazing! I've dabbled in digital art creating, but haven't done all you've done. How cool to make your own stickers too! Good luck with your online store and all that you create!!@@Starline__studio
Thank you for being so realistic especially, as a mother I was finding it really hard to do the morning pages first thing in the morning because the kids wake up so early! Finding the time to do them when the house is quiet sounds way better for me.
Absolutely! I'm glad you're able to do your morning pages when it works best for you. I'd much rather wait until it's more quiet to do my morning pages too. So I completely understand. Thank you for watching!
Very helpful advice for beginners, many thanks. I want to start with morning pages and artist dates, and I plan to start full 12 weeks of artist way in the July when i have more time and headspace
That's amazing! You're going to definitely love it. I like your way of starting with MPs and ADs until you can dive into the course. Good way of starting :)
For me the time that i write isn’t that important, but i try to write every day. I mostly just write about my day so most of the time i do it when i am back home from work or in the weekend home again.
That's such a good tip! Just the act of writing and getting all your thoughts out of your head is a good thing! I like that you have a routine of writing after work. Thank you for this comment!
Can I write negative things in my morning page? I just found your channel and want to start write my morning page but a bit confused.. need your hands💗!
100% you can write negative things in your morning pages! Get it all out of your head onto the pages and let your mind be clear for other things - like creative ideas or it now has room to be filled with positive things! I'm so glad you found this video to help you navigate through the Artist's Way! I'm so excited for you to start!
Hi! Can I write on my laptop? I have a huge problem with concentration/I am a perfectionist (not in a good way hahhahha) , so I started to look at my calligraphy, if I go straight, If it's nice to look at or bad etc etc Would it be the same? thank you
Hey!! Normally I'd suggest writing with pen/paper because it helps you slow down your thoughts and get it all out there, because lemme tell ya, my morning pages journal handwriting is the crappiest! lol. And sometimes I can't read it. But if you feel you need to type it out, by all means, do that! Just after some time, maybe try out paper and pen and see if you can feel a difference. I hope that helps and have fun with your morning pages!! So excited for you!
Help? Advice? It takes me a VERY long time to write morning pages (brain dump)! 3 handwritten pages (on ipad pro 12.9)(or 750 words of typed with swipe keyboard) take me 1.5 hrs, or 30 minutes each per page. I am finding it difficult to stay motivated. However, when I try to write less and go easy on myself I never feel like I run out of stuff to write. This is bad because I now enjoy running out of ideas because that's where the Real breakthroughs are. I hate being so slow at things! Is there any way to NOT to set my alarm 1.5 hours earlier? So what I'm I doing wrong?
Hello hello! Do you find that around a certain time you get your breakthroughs? i.e. you hit 20 or 30 min and you start having breakthroughs with your thoughts? I'd suggest that if you find a pattern of when you feel you really starting to get into a good writing flow you could only do morning pages for that amount of time, then get into the juicy writing for another 10-15 minutes. That way you're only spending 30-40 min writing instead of 1.5. hours! And if that doesn't help, perhaps you do a long version of morning pages (1.5 hrs) only a few times a week and the other days you do a quick version of morning pages (like 20 minutes to write on those days). That way you are still doing your morning pages each day to stay motivated, but not having to wake up 1.5 hours earlier every single day (only the "long version of morning pages" that you want to set aside to write). Hope those ideas help you!!! I think it's amazing you are doing them! Isn't it so helpful?
It is good to spread this tool. But the idea Julia has put out, is to write 3 pages, not 2 and not more than 3. And the idea is to write first thing in the morning. So when you have kids, you find your way. Everybody can find a way, if they really want to. Morningpages is one thing, with one of Julia´s ideas and lots og experience behind, journaling is something else.
Yes, Julia definitely wants folks to writing 3 pages and to write in the morning, I just wanted to let people know that if that's too much for them and they need to ease into it - to do 1 or 2 pages to begin, then work themselves up to 3 pages. Some people need small steps to get to their goal. I know I needed it, and now I'm easily filling 3 pages a day!! :)

YES! I had the same issue with my hand hurting. 🤣 Some days I only wrote 2 pages and other days I'd come back to it.

You clearly do not get up at 5am in the morning to take care of everyone else…..
