- PART 5 - The Office Car Park
In the 1990s my previous company had a customer in Bracknell with an old otis lift in a multistorey car park next door.
This was back in 1996 and I only went there once, but I remember the lift.
I thought that the place had been knocked down. I tried to do some research on the car park on the net but found nothing.
Then, of course... AFTER my filming I realised that this must have been the lift!
I didn't recognise it was more open in the 90s without security doors and the office was just a walkway from the car park with no doors.
POSSIBLY the machinery is original, especially the distinctive sound of an Otis DC-Generator, though much quieter than before.
Even though it has the dreaded black modernised buttons, still an interesting lift with it's unusually high speed and original Otis doors.

Bracknell has special memories for me...
My nan and granddad lived here and over my childhood I got to know Bracknell quite well. I first realised that I had an interest in lifts from when my Nan would take me round the lifts in the town centre. Secretly I was scared of the lifts, but there was something about them that I liked which developed into an interest.
Sadly my nan passed away last Christmas (2013). She was a kind lady that treated everyone the same and never judged anyone.
Something else about Bracknell is, until now, things haven't changed much and some of the lifts that I remember are still there! But "here today, gone tomorrow" is a realistic proverb in this video - Bracknell is being massively redeveloped and is finally moving away from it's 1970s town centre design which inevitably takes away my memories of the town centre as I knew it.
SO...ONE LAST TIME, this time with some supporting documents (and possibly with some "too much information" parts lol), lets do the BRACKNELL LIFT TOUR ONE LAST TIME...!

##PART 6 COMING SOON##
I'm similar to you in that I used to be scared of lifts yet found them fascinating. From a young age I would draw pictures imagining how the mechanism worked. I was lucky enough to have work experience with Express Lifts in 1995. I'd almost certainly be a lift engineer if I wasn't doing my current job!
Notice the premature door open, and the lack of a door close button. I would guess the controller is probably original. I noticed the floor indicator is stuck saying G.
I miss the days of the old lifts. Touch sensitive buttons with a neon tube light, louder mechanicals, fast - even if they were a bit rough, and my favourites were the traction Otis machines that would always start the doors opening before leveling was complete, and you could watch the cab floor line up to the landing. Modern lifts don't have the same feel. They're too refined, too perfected - when they're running that is.
The hospital in the town I'm from had these awesome Otis traction lifts originally. When they added on, they installed Dover's in the new wing. If I went to visit friends or family in hospital, I always went back to the old section and took the original Otis lifts. Sadly, those lifts were modernised by Dover a few years before I moved to Seattle. Like most new lifts, they weren't really anything special. There was no pizzazz to them like there was before. I feel like lifts are yet another industry where we can say "they really don't make them like they used to", and it's not a good thing.
+Matt Hayes Everything you've said I can only reply "true", "yep true", "I agree", "yep same here" lol!! I like the summing up of "no pizzazz" to new lifts, old ones have more character. If you have a look at my "you looking for someone" video, then yes, the machinery room is VERY small but new lifts just don't have this type of "character" any more and I'm not really interested in new lifts at all - they just don't interest me like the old ones do. Thanks for your comment.
The lack of going up and down announcements is strange - normally Stentorgate would be littered with these kinds of announcements and the lift would not pre door.
Nice to see they left the machinery, that's actually quite common in Canada as our regulations grandfather in older technology as long as it remains untouched, once key electrical or mechanical components are modified at all they must be brought up to ALL modern codes, so when lifts are upgraded cosmetically the "guts" are often left as is.
Wow, love this elevator, I guess like this is Bennie lift service is! Great to video thought. 😉👍
There is "possibly" a motor room tour in the pipeline, no promises though.
@@mrmattandmrchay Really, I didn't know about it. I can hear that elevator motoring is really noisy... So, one thing problem is that lift it's not installed fixtures properly. Because of the indicator was lack connector broken off the cable line link direction is. Now, is too bad, get a fixtures with it is. 😯
looks like you have a fun ride.
I have no doubt that still has it's original logic and motor.
It has. Michal Miara had someone send him some photos
0:38 No wonder it's "TO LET"!!!
No, idea... What expect of this place there is no sense is! ☹
Far out, that carpark lift is fast as! Faster than a Liftronic MRL Traction (Newlift FST2 controller) and a KONE EcoDisc serving the same amount of floors!
Yeah it's a really interesting lift, even though buttons and displays have already been replaced.
The floor indicator is stuck!
There was problem installed fixtures unit left like bit broken connect is, hmm??? 🤔
Any plans to do a video with the motor room?
Would like to but difficult to get in here now. An official visit is unlikely also :(
mrmattandmrchay Has it been closed?
Nope, it's still there. I would like to revisit it, but I'd have to do it with permission though and it's unlikely they would allow me to have a look at the motor room due to the usual "DUE TO HEALTH AND SAFETY...." excuse!
The indicator inside the loft is stuck at G
Yeah, is there was fixtures problem installed unit was broken guess is, hmm??? 🤔
Least it has its original machinery shame bout the buttons though
2:44 Why are there 2 sets of buttons???
Might be disabled people user or blind these button advance is.
Am I seeing things, or are those flip-disc displays?
+BikerBoyNJ Not sure what part of the video you are referring to, but nope, I don't think so.
mrmattandmrchay The floor display on the elevator.
What is the name of the car park please?
I don't think it has a name. But it's right next door to the High Street car park, at the bottom in the link below: www.google.co.uk/maps/place/Bracknell/@51.4153189,-0.7518159,284m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m5!3m4!1s0x48767c29377d25fd:0x2b035d7df603e639!8m2!3d51.41604!4d-0.75398
mrmattandmrchay Ok thanks
Is it me or does the indicator outside looks like the faumous "TESCO tape" indicator?
+battytec videos yep... minus the tesco packing tape lol
That indicator says G when the lift is at B???
@@MichalM it was stuck
@@SamsungGalaxyS23Ultra Sadly.
Didn't do a good job fixing the level indicator in the lift!
yep! And it's difficult to film this lift now.
mrmattandmrchay Has it been knocked down?
Up and down lol
Maybe not living up there pays off because up in the US where I live alot of buildings still have some character in the cabs and outside too not as exiting of stuff as up there with express and a bunch of other brands but still cool

Original Controller!
