For anyone who's wondering in the UK landlords legally need to give 24hr notice before entering your house. Also you can take them to mediation, it's basically a legally backed conversation where the court helps you find a resolution - and it's much cheaper than trying to sue someone
In the US it's similar - depending on the state it can even be two days' notice. Apparently, some states just say the notice has to be "reasonable", whatever that means. Idk if there are any states without those kinds of laws.

It's similar in a lot of the US! My landlord terminated my lease last fall after she kept holding open houses & letting people into my apartment without 24 hours notice. I informed her multiple times that what she was doing was illegal before informing her that she was no longer permitted to enter my apartment without notice & I would call the police for trespassing if she violated this agreement. She thought I was BSing until she actually broke into my apartment while I wasnt home & saw a security camera pointed at her. My lease was terminated less than a month later & I wasn't able to fight it. The worst part is that a lot of the people looking to buy the house were actually hoping to keep me there as a tenant bc they didn't need the extra space & I have a near-perfect rental history. They missed out on a good tenant & I became homeless for a couple months all because she didn't like that I had a right to demand she not break into my apartment in the middle of the day while I'm trying to take a nap.
I think that here in Canada it varies by province/territory. In Ontario it's 48 hours. That gives you time to make arrangements to be home when they show up, if you have a job. If no one can be home, you can give them permission to enter, but most people feel more comfortable being there.
The story about men harassing drunk women reminded me of the time when I was 13 and in school. I was standing alone in a buss stop waiting to get a buss that would take me out of the city to countryside. A black car full of young men in their 18-20's pulled over and asked if I wanted a lift. When I declined they started begging me to get into the car with them and "promised that I will have a good time". I ignored them and told them to leave me alone. Eventually they drove a bit further and pulled over to wait to see what buss I was going to take. I decided to start walking into the opposite direction away from them. I used my phone's camera to confirm that the car was leaving when I started walking away but it did not attempt to make a U-turn to follow me further. I still decided to play it safe and walk to the next buss stop that was in front of a large supermarket. I wrote down the car's register plate and sent it to my mother and explained what happened. Not seeing any more black cars on my buss drive to home made me feel safe enough to get out, run the 5 km sprint across the roads, the forest and the fields back home and I didn't stop until I was safe back at home behind a locked door between me and the world. I of course let my parents know that I had gotten home safely and that no one had followed me. I know that this happened many years ago but it is absolutely terrifying to see that it is still happening today. Men harassing women in pure daylight and at worst cases no one chooses to do anything about it or try to help.

When I was 13 a tomboy and have been mistaken to a guy sometimes so its not exactly something that I would have expected to happen either. Around that age, I was followed home from school in the middle of winter. I do a lot of drawing though, so I had a metal mechanical pencil in my pocket. After that encounter, my mum bought 3 personal attack alarms for me, her and my sister. The guy that was following me stopped after I walked past the police station.

I had one of those, "The customer is always right," situations at work once. I was showing the dessert cart and a customer wanted something we were out of. I apologized and started to remove the offending item from the tray. She yelled, "YOU HAVE ONE RIGHT THERE!" And the whole restaurant went quiet as she tried to take a triumphant bite of the pie, she crammed it into her mouth and CHOMP. Too bad the pie slice was fake and made of resin.

@@GrumpyOldFart2 if I see someone that has fainted, I usually get them water and something sweet. Because chocolate or sweet things can help after panic attacks, a diabetes episode or from fainting from a quick change of blood sugar. Also water is nice.

I've a man following woman home story too, though more like he tried to. I was going home late in the evening super tired and this guy just came over all friendly and started talking to me. I figured he was just being very sociable and I didn't really mind just chatting while walking. But then when we neared the train station I was heading for, he started to insist on coming home with me and I was all: "wtf? Absolutely not!" He kept insisting and I kept saying no right up until we arrived at the train station. That's when this group of scary gangster-looking types hanging around outside took notice and started coming over all like: "what's going on here?" And this annoying tick of a guy just noped out of there so fast I didn't even see which way he went. So, thanks gangster guys for helping a random tired woman get rid of a pest. You guys are awesome.

Just an FYI: My mother, during the time she went to university, actually had a rental agreement, that allowed the landlady to barge in at any time for an "unannounced inspection". Of course it was the 70s so no one really cared. She still to this day tells me she was feeling very vulnerable whenever she took a shower or had her first husband (not my father) over. Always fearing that landlady might suddenly appear. Imagine feeling that afraid in your own home.
That's how I feel rn, cuz my (now ex) and I rent a house from his Dad and sometimes I would wake up and his Dad would be in the house. I always have the front door locked when I'm home alone, but I know he has a key. There's a language and cultural barrier, but it's still an awful feeling.
In some places it's specifically a matter of a renter's right not to have the landlord enter unannounced, and any clause in a rental contract signing away that right is invalid.

it might vary by state but in california a landlord cant enter the home without a WRITTEN 24-48 (cant be overly vague) hour notice and must be between business hours (if apartment its office hours, private landlords its consider 9am-5pm) this also means they are never allowed to enter on federal holidays

I lived in an apartment about 9 years ago and two maintenance men knocked 3 times then unlocked the door and came in. They said they were looking for a laptop that one of them left in one of the new leases. I was in my pajamas, alone in the house while two dudes went through the place. Turns out one of them was a creep and had done this to about a dozen apartments with younger women. He walked in on a young lady in the shower and she sued the complex owners. He was arrested.

That last clip, about men harassing women is so real and so scary. One time when I was probably fifteen or sixteen I was walking to the train home from school. It wasn’t late, probably around four, but I believe it was winter so it was getting dull early. These two guys (probably in their late teens or early twenties) came up to me and asked me where I was going. I just said it was none of their business and kept walking, but they kept following me and saying to come with them. I just ignored them, but then one of the guys said that he would follow me home and harass me if I didn’t go with them. This obviously freaked me out, but I went into a crowded market to try and lose them. Thankfully I did and I got to the train and home safely, but god this shit is terrifying.

When I was 16, a man in his late 30s decided to target me on more than one occasion. He was a civvie who worked on base (dad was military so we lived on base). He followed me a couple times. The last time, I was walking home from work, which was in one of the hangers, and he started following me in his van like usual. This time, though, he didn't drive away after a minute or so. So I turned around and walked back to the gate to the area the military personnel and most civilians would work, where the MPs (military police) were. I talked to them and the idiot had turned around and was now driving through the gate, presumably to see what I was doing. The MPs took note of everything, I went home and told my parents. The next day, dad went to the MPs to touchbase with them and CE (Civil Engineers - civvies who work on base doing repairs to homes- who this guy worked for). The guy was fired that day and it turns out he had targeted more than one girl, I'm just the one that talked. Now, at 51, I have dealt with so much of this crap and these power trips, I react in a much more... direct way. They learn very fast, that doing this will either possibly cause them so intense harm (or so they end up believing), public humiliation or both. I am not having any more of this crap.

But I ALWAYS wore a baggie hoodie so no one could look down my shirts or stare at my butt, since it was covered by the bottom of my hoodie because I deliberately wore hoodies that were, at least, 2 sizes too big on me. I've actually always preferred baggier clothes, especially shirts and hoodies/sweaters, but they really helped keep the pervs from being able to see anything back then. Nowadays, I always make sure to carry a knife on my person, just in case. It's especially important to me because (at least) three of my knives are equipped with window breakers and seat belt cutters in case of an emergency. I never go anywhere without one of my metal babies 😂
The woman pretending to be drunk story reminded me of a time pretty recently when I was taking the bus to my boyfriends house and this guy started following me. I immediately video called my boyfriend and told him what was happening. I discreetly made it known to the creepy guy that I had a pocket knife on me by cutting a loose string off of my shirt and he backed off a little but was still following me. So my boyfriend and his roommate met me at the next bus stop and were prepared to throw hands. The whole situation at the end reminds me about how a few guys in a car drove past me walking to the grocery store, trying to invite me to a party. I politely declined and went on my way. This was around 9pm or so. I then noticed they were also going to the same grocery store and kept staring at me, so I waited to go to the register until they were out of the store. I paid for my stuff and left 10 minutes later and found them still sitting in their car in the parking lot. They drove past me again to the corner they first noticed me, which is really close to my home. When I wanted to turn into that street, I saw them parked on the corner, all outside of their car waiting. They didn't see me when I was about to turn the corner, so I was able to take a detour home and thankfully didn't have to deal with them. I don't know what they wanted from me. The shite us women have to deal with, for real.

I remember being 17 and cornered by a much older man at the tram station after college. I was training to be a chef and we always had one late night finish. He was so creepy and only backed off when the driver appeared. I still remember the feeling of just wanting to get away from him and unease 20 years later.
If I remember correctly the lady in the shrimp story thought the meal in the fridge was hers from a few days prior. Because she assumed it was a hers and that it was days old, that's why she just threw it straight into the trash.

So he is also earning profit just because you live there, clean the house and let him know if something is broken. So it is also better for him compared to the scenario when he leaves the flat empty and take a look around in it in every other month. So I consider this as a tip from the renter!
@@lmTheMink Absolutely. The value of having someone on-site is huge. My parents left their house empty for one day and of course that's when the water line to the fridge decided to leak. If someone had been there to notice it, not so much of an issue, it was a slow leak after all, but about a day and a half... it was right next to the carpeted living room, which squelched when you stepped on it because it was so waterlogged. They spent iirc a solid week just trying to air out the crawlspace and floors with fans (it also had paper-backed insulation in it, soaked through and dropped to the ground, huge unsalvageable mess), had to rip up the carpets, have to get all-new flooring. Thousands of dollars all because nobody was there to notice while it was still just a puddle and shut the water off. Woulda been a super simple fix! Luckily they had been wanting to replace the flooring anyway, so at least they're getting new flooring sooner than they otherwise woulda, just a shame it's coming with so much extra cost and stress 😭 I can't imagine them ever asking for tips as landlords, they would be so grateful to have people taking care of the day-to-day things a house needs! Being "on-call" about your house's emergencies is just part of being a homeowner 😅

I was followed once. I was walking home at 2 in the morning and noticed a man following me. I walked right past my building, not wanting to show him where I lived. It was very scary because all I wanted to do was run home to safety. I walked to a 24/7 shop nearby. He followed me around the shop for 15 minutes before giving up and leaving. I feel lucky that I noticed him and that I had a place to wait him out, but it makes me sad to think that he is out there being a threat to others.
Really smart thing to do. It's our instinct to get home as fast as possible in situations like that, because that equals safety for us. However, like you mentioned, it's the last thing you should do if you can avoid it. You really don't want some creep knowing where you live. Usual advice is to stay in a well lit area that's as busy as possible, and to either call the police as you're walking or go somewhere public and ask staff for help. Not very long ago, a boy saved himself from being abducted when walking home from school, he realised someone was shadowing him (I think it was actually a woman). As soon as he realised, he veered into the shop he was passing and greeted the worker as family. The shop worker realised really quickly that something was wrong and put herself between the boy and the creep, intimidated them into leaving before quickly locking them out on the street and calling police (I think the police apprehended her up but the details around it are fuzzy). It was all caught on the store's security camera. IIRC the shop assistant was only 17 or so herself, she deserved an award for her quick reactions. Incredibly quick thinking on both or their parts.

I was once at the bus stop, waiting for the bus with a friend of mine, and this man started trying to make conversation with us. But it didn't work. I was going home from partying, but my friend wasn't, so only I got into the bus while she went back to the group. Right when I got onto the first step to get in, he got right behind me and whispered "your friend left you all alone, huh?". I was freaking out and making plans about what to do, and thankfully he got off the bus earlier. But it was extremely scary

While I was at university, my landlord used to let himself into the house, but he always let us know beforehand and told us exactly when he was coming and what he was coming for, so we could just say yeah sure that's fine. Mostly, it was just coming in to fix things, and he mowed the lawn for us, too. He never just barged in unannounced and was overall a pretty nice guy.
Landlord has to make a time to come onto the property, or can do so with the tenant's permission. While the landlord owns the place, the tenant has the right to privacy. The landlord in the video was breaking the law.

Here where I live it goes both ways. For some people absolutely it can be, but not at all for many. Even without being an adult worker some of the most substantial and intimate relationships you can have with another person is just being truly open, in a way that people are not when it's just skin to skin. About the "cross fit" case, I witnessed something similar when I was on a trip to Budapest in Hungary. We stood in line for getting tickets to visit the parliament building. He'd force his way in then threaten to kill the baby if she didn't have sex with him. The women tended to live in smaller, older buildings so no maintenance or security guards or cameras. That area of Seoul is infamous for rapists and other convicts in the area. It's a poor area, cheaper housing, so many convicts move there after they've served their time. Rapists tend to get very light sentences as well, just a few years each time they are caught.

The last one reminds me of when I was little, I was in a car with my mom and she realized a white van was following us as we were driving home. I don’t remember how long they were following but my mom decided to turn down different streets to test if they were following before deciding it was safe to actually drive home. Sure enough, the van was following us. I was only 12 but I remember how terrifying it was to realize that there were strangers following us. That was over a decade ago now, but I still look over my shoulder whenever I drive home to make sure no one’s following me.

The last part reminded me of something that happened to me when I was about 15 or so (maybe younger or older but definitely a minor). I was walking down our main street in broad daylight. A guy, somewhere between 20-40, greeted me when I passed him. I stopped, turned around and found him looking at me. I walked a few more steps, then stopped again and he still stared me down. He approached me and said (in german) "Hi. I know you. You always take bus X and get off at Station Y. I've seen you like a 100 times" My heart dropped because he was correct, that was my school bus. He asked me where I was going and I said I was just taking a walk. That was a lie but I don't remember where I was really headed. He asked if he could come with me and I tried to get around it by reminding him that he was just heading the other way but he insisted. While walking he asked me if I had Facebook or other social media. Back then I didn't, but I would have said no anyways. I told him I needed to go into the next store and he asked if he should wait for me. I said no, it's gonna take a while and just hoped he would go away. I waited like 20min in that store I didn't actually need anything from. I didn't tell the store clerk, though I would have if he had actually waited outside. Thankfully he didn't and I ran back home. Sometimes I still see him on that street but he never approached me again. That was 10 years ago so I don't remember the surroundings very well but what he said was pretty much burned into my brain. Guys like that are so creepy. I have plenty act like they mean well because I’m legally blind and use a white cane 🦯 but so often they go about “helping” me in scary ways. Once when I was on my way back from university classes I had to walk around 4 extra blocks before the guy behind me stopped following me. I could see enough at the time to tell the dude was the same person and had been following me for more than 10 minutes, people who aren’t following me usually go past or change course pretty quick. I had to pretend I knew where I was going and hope I didn’t turn down a dead end. I’m honestly afraid of if I can be safe walking on my own once my vision finishes being lost.
I had someone follow me home from Dollar General once. It was after 8 at night and I'd needed to pick something up quick before home. My best 'the customer is always right' story happened when i uses to work at Homebase (a sort of DIY/gardening store) I was working on the customer service desk when a customer called. He was shout and screaming at me calling me all names under the sun and demanded that i give him a refund for a gazebo cover. I had search through our computer system and could not find anything which matched his description. I finally told him to come into the store with the cover and his receipt and ill see what i could do. A few hours later he showed up. Better quality photos reveal the belt buckle is not a star of any kind - it's just some belt buckle from what appears to be a harness or heavy duty belt buckle. That oil one is horrendous. Many years ago the younger sister of a close friend died from oil on the road - she wasn't speeding, wasn't sleepy or drunk, just hit a patch of oil on a rural highway, lost control, and died on impact. Some months later I was in the audience at a car race where one of the cars dropped a gearbox full of oil on the track, and the maintenance people were out there in minutes tipping concrete powder over the spill - which absorbed it and made the surface safe to drive on. If someone had done that where a car dropped a gutful of oil on the highway, Amy would still be alive now. Those people deliberately tipping oil on the road should be charged with attempted murder.
I mean, to be fair - she did talk to someone about it, and that someone is still driving around town looking for the right guy with the exactly right middle finger. Cinderella style.

For anyone who's wondering in the UK landlords legally need to give 24hr notice before entering your house. Also you can take them to mediation, it's basically a legally backed conversation where the court helps you find a resolution - and it's much cheaper than trying to sue someone
In the US it's similar - depending on the state it can even be two days' notice. Apparently, some states just say the notice has to be "reasonable", whatever that means. Idk if there are any states without those kinds of laws.

It's similar in a lot of the US! My landlord terminated my lease last fall after she kept holding open houses & letting people into my apartment without 24 hours notice.
I informed her multiple times that what she was doing was illegal before informing her that she was no longer permitted to enter my apartment without notice & I would call the police for trespassing if she violated this agreement. She thought I was BSing until she actually broke into my apartment while I wasnt home & saw a security camera pointed at her. My lease was terminated less than a month later & I wasn't able to fight it.
The worst part is that a lot of the people looking to buy the house were actually hoping to keep me there as a tenant bc they didn't need the extra space & I have a near-perfect rental history. They missed out on a good tenant & I became homeless for a couple months all because she didn't like that I had a right to demand she not break into my apartment in the middle of the day while I'm trying to take a nap.
I think that here in Canada it varies by province/territory. In Ontario it's 48 hours. That gives you time to make arrangements to be home when they show up, if you have a job. If no one can be home, you can give them permission to enter, but most people feel more comfortable being there.
The story about men harassing drunk women reminded me of the time when I was 13 and in school. I was standing alone in a buss stop waiting to get a buss that would take me out of the city to countryside. A black car full of young men in their 18-20's pulled over and asked if I wanted a lift. When I declined they started begging me to get into the car with them and "promised that I will have a good time". I ignored them and told them to leave me alone. Eventually they drove a bit further and pulled over to wait to see what buss I was going to take. I decided to start walking into the opposite direction away from them. I used my phone's camera to confirm that the car was leaving when I started walking away but it did not attempt to make a U-turn to follow me further. I still decided to play it safe and walk to the next buss stop that was in front of a large supermarket. I wrote down the car's register plate and sent it to my mother and explained what happened. Not seeing any more black cars on my buss drive to home made me feel safe enough to get out, run the 5 km sprint across the roads, the forest and the fields back home and I didn't stop until I was safe back at home behind a locked door between me and the world. I of course let my parents know that I had gotten home safely and that no one had followed me.
I know that this happened many years ago but it is absolutely terrifying to see that it is still happening today. Men harassing women in pure daylight and at worst cases no one chooses to do anything about it or try to help.

When I was 13 a tomboy and have been mistaken to a guy sometimes so its not exactly something that I would have expected to happen either. Around that age, I was followed home from school in the middle of winter. I do a lot of drawing though, so I had a metal mechanical pencil in my pocket. Because that's how face masks works. Unless it's a N95 medical mask, the mask is mainly to protect the others from the potential aerosol of micro droplets from the wearer in case they cough or sneeze. In normal situations, the air you're breathing in and out goes mostly through the sides of the mask, but it will be enough to prevent you from making a spit cloud around you that may or may not be carrying viruses. But my mask won't be enough to prevent me from breathing your spit cloud, just an extra layer that hopefully reduces a bit my chances

@@GrumpyOldFart2 if I see someone that has fainted, I usually get them water and something sweet. Because chocolate or sweet things can help after panic attacks, a diabetes episode or from fainting from a quick change of blood sugar. Also water is nice.

I've a man following woman home story too, though more like he tried to. I was going home late in the evening super tired and this guy just came over all friendly and started talking to me. But then when we neared the train station I was heading for, he started to insist on coming home with me and I was all: "wtf? Absolutely not!" He kept insisting and I kept saying no right up until we arrived at the train station. That's when this group of scary gangster-looking types hanging around outside took notice and started coming over all like: "what's going on here?" And this annoying tick of a guy just noped out of there so fast I didn't even see which way he went. So, thanks gangster guys for helping a random tired woman get rid of a pest. You guys are awesome.

Just an FYI: My mother, during the time she went to university, actually had a rental agreement, that allowed the landlady to barge in at any time for an "unannounced inspection". Of course it was the 70s so no one really cared. She still to this day tells me she was feeling very vulnerable whenever she took a shower or had her first husband (not my father) over. Always fearing that landlady might suddenly appear. Imagine feeling that afraid in your own home.

That's how I feel rn, cuz my (now ex) and I rent a house from his Dad and sometimes I would wake up and his Dad would be in the house. I always have the front door locked when I'm home alone, but I know he has a key. There's a language and cultural barrier, but it's still an awful feeling.
In some places it's specifically a matter of a renter's right not to have the landlord enter unannounced, and any clause in a rental contract signing away that right is invalid.

it might vary by state but in california a landlord cant enter the home without a WRITTEN 24-48 (cant be overly vague) hour notice and must be between business hours (if apartment its office hours, private landlords its consider 9am-5pm) this also means they are never allowed to enter on federal holidays

I lived in an apartment about 9 years ago and two maintenance men knocked 3 times then unlocked the door and came in. They said they were looking for a laptop that one of them left in one of the new leases. I was in my pajamas, alone in the house while two dudes went through the place.

It wasn’t late, probably around four, but I believe it was winter so it was getting dull early. These two guys (probably in their late teens or early twenties) came up to me and asked me where I was going. I just said it was none of their business and kept walking, but they kept following me and saying to come with them. I just ignored them, but then one of the guys said that he would follow me home and harass me if I didn’t go with them. This obviously freaked me out, but I went into a crowded market to try and lose them. Thankfully I did and I got to the train and home safely, but god this shit is terrifying.

What the actual fuck is wrong with people?
When I was 16, a man in his late 30s decided to target me on more than one occasion. He was a civvie who worked on base (dad was military so we lived on base). He followed me a couple times. The last time, I was walking home from work, which was in one of the hangers, and he started following me in his van like usual. This time, though, he didn't drive away after a minute or so. So I turned around and walked back to the gate to the area the military personnel and most civilians would work, where the MPs (military police) were. I talked to them and the idiot had turned around and was now driving through the gate, presumably to see what I was doing. The MPs took note of everything, I went home and told my parents. The next day, dad went to the MPs to touchbase with them and CE (Civil Engineers - civvies who work on base doing repairs to homes- who this guy worked for). The guy was fired that day and it turns out he had targeted more than one girl, I'm just the one that talked. Now, at 51, I have dealt with so much of this crap and these power trips, I react in a much more... direct way. They learn very fast, that doing this will either possibly cause them so intense harm (or so they end up believing), public humiliation or both. I am not having any more of this crap.
Good on you for standing up for yourself and getting him kicked off the base. Not only did you protect yourself, but countless other girls he could've preyed on. Thankfully, I've not really had an incident like that (or where I was followed before), outside of catcalling when I was a teen from high school boys I went to school with. I did, unfortunately, have some skeevy teachers and a vice principal in junior high (who later became the principal of my high school after my class left 8th grade) who would oggle the 12 to 15 year old girl's breasts and butts.
I remember the vice principal (turned principal in HS) staring at my chest and trying to "inconspicuously" look down my shirt whenever he'd talk to me, since I was bigger breasted, even as a 13/14 year old. I've actually always preferred baggier clothes, especially shirts and hoodies/sweaters, but they really helped keep the pervs from being able to see anything back then.

The woman pretending to be drunk story reminded me of a time pretty recently when I was taking the bus to my boyfriends house and this guy started following me. I immediately video called my boyfriend and told him what was happening. I discreetly made it known to the creepy guy that I had a pocket knife on me by cutting a loose string off of my shirt and he backed off a little but was still following me. So my boyfriend and his roommate met me at the next bus stop and were prepared to throw hands. But luckily the creepy guy saw that I was running to two tall, long haired skater boys that were glaring daggers at him XD

The whole situation at the end reminds me about how a few guys in a car drove past me walking to the grocery store, trying to invite me to a party. I politely declined and went on my way. This was around 9pm or so. I then noticed they were also going to the same grocery store and kept staring at me, so I waited to go to the register until they were out of the store. I paid for my stuff and left 10 minutes later and found them still sitting in their car in the parking lot. They drove past me again to the corner they first noticed me, which is really close to my home. When I wanted to turn into that street, I saw them parked on the corner, all outside of their car waiting. They didn't see me when I was about to turn the corner, so I was able to take a detour home and thankfully didn't have to deal with them. I don't know what they wanted from me. The shite us women have to deal with, for real.

@@lmTheMink Absolutely. The value of having someone on-site is huge. My parents left their house empty for one day and of course that's when the water line to the fridge decided to leak. If someone had been there to notice it, not so much of an issue, it was a slow leak after all, but about a day and a half... it was right next to the carpeted living room, which squelched when you stepped on it because it was so waterlogged. They spent iirc a solid week just trying to air out the crawlspace and floors with fans (it also had paper-backed insulation in it, soaked through and dropped to the ground, huge unsalvageable mess), had to rip up the carpets, have to get all-new flooring. Thousands of dollars all because nobody was there to notice while it was still just a puddle and shut the water off. Woulda been a super simple fix! Luckily they had been wanting to replace the flooring anyway, so at least they're getting new flooring sooner than they otherwise woulda, just a shame it's coming with so much extra cost and stress 😭 I can't imagine them ever asking for tips as landlords, they would be so grateful to have people taking care of the day-to-day things a house needs! Being "on-call" about your house's emergencies is just part of being a homeowner 😅

I was followed once. I was walking home at 2 in the morning and noticed a man following me. I walked right past my building, not wanting to show him where I lived. It was very scary because all I wanted to do was run home to safety. I walked to a 24/7 shop nearby. He followed me around the shop for 15 minutes before giving up and leaving. I feel lucky that I noticed him and that I had a place to wait him out, but it makes me sad to think that he is out there being a threat to others.
Really smart thing to do. It's our instinct to get home as fast as possible in situations like that, because that equals safety for us. However, like you mentioned, it's the last thing you should do if you can avoid it. You really don't want some creep knowing where you live.
Usual advice is to stay in a well lit area that's as busy as possible, and to either call the police as you're walking or go somewhere public and ask staff for help. Not very long ago, a boy saved himself from being abducted when walking home from school, he realised someone was shadowing him (I think it was actually a woman). As soon as he realised, he veered into the shop he was passing and greeted the worker as family. The shop worker realised really quickly that something was wrong and put herself between the boy and the creep, intimidated them into leaving before quickly locking them out on the street and calling police (I think the police apprehended her up but the details around it are fuzzy). It was all caught on the store's security camera. IIRC the shop assistant was only 17 or so herself, she deserved an award for her quick reactions. Incredibly quick thinking on both or their parts.

I was going home from partying, but my friend wasn't, so only I got into the bus while she went back to the group. While I was at university, my landlord used to let himself into the house, but he always let us know beforehand and told us exactly when he was coming and what he was coming for, so we could just say yeah sure that's fine. Mostly, it was just coming in to fix things, and he mowed the lawn for us, too. He never just barged in unannounced and was overall a pretty nice guy.
Landlord has to make a time to come onto the property, or can do so with the tenant's permission. While the landlord owns the place, the tenant has the right to privacy. The landlord in the video was breaking the law.
About the man following the woman. I had that happen to me: a guy followed me to my building, and when I told him to leave, he tried to assault me. I would have been his 8th victim had he managed it, but I was able to hurt him a little and scream, which made him disappear. He was caught eventually and went to jail. This was in broad daylight. Nobody heard me scream, and the police took a bit to come. I still jump at shadows after this.

Here where I live it goes both ways. About the "cross fit" case, I witnessed something similar when I was on a trip to Budapest in Hungary. We stood in line for getting tickets to visit the parliament building. Actually it's even worse in some cases! Restaurant workers can be paid less than minimum wage in some places in the US as long as the restaurant thinks they'll make enough tips to make up for it. The tip isn't considered extra, it's part of their regular paycheck.

For the story about the guy following the girl off the bus and to her house, there was a rapist in Seoul that would do something similar. He'd watch women with multiple kids, usually one being a baby, dropping off older kids at elementary school. He'd follow them home then stop the door from closing. He'd force his way in then threaten to kill the baby if she didn't have sex with him.
The women tended to live in smaller, older buildings so no maintenance or security guards or cameras. That area of Seoul is infamous for rapists and other convicts in the area. It's a poor area, cheaper housing, so many convicts move there after they've served their time. Rapists tend to get very light sentences as well, just a few years each time they are caught.

That's fair, sort of, but I'm pretty sure most people learn how to parse their feelings better than that by, idk, age ten. It's not that hard to realize when multiple factors are playing into your current mental state. If she is indeed just struggling to cope with a buildup of various issues, she still needs to talk with a professional, cuz the way she behaved is not a neurotypical reaction and is quite debilitating. Some therapy to learn a bit of emotional processing skills would go a long way to preventing this sort of issue from happening again. Life is full of shitty days. She won't be able to live life very well if she keeps mishandling shitty days to this extent or worse.

The last one reminds me of when I was little, I was in a car with my mom and she realized a white van was following us as we were driving home. I don’t remember how long they were following but my mom decided to turn down different streets to test if they were following before deciding it was safe to actually drive home.
Sure enough, the van was following us. I was only 12 but I remember how terrifying it was to realize that there were strangers following us. That was over a decade ago now, but I still look over my shoulder whenever I drive home to make sure no one’s following me.

Which means that even if they want to buy something ugly as hell or something that looks like garbage on them, if they like it, they like it and you sell it to them. The second half of that sentence really makes it clear that customers are only right in regards to one very specific thing, not everything.
I'd say the mistake here was putting it so you can cut off the second part and not realise it's not the full statement.

The last part reminded me of something that happened to me when I was about 15 or so (maybe younger or older but definitely a minor). I was walking down our main street in broad daylight. A guy, somewhere between 20-40, greeted me when I passed him. I stopped, turned around and found him looking at me. I walked a few more steps, then stopped again and he still stared me down. He approached me and said (in german) "Hi. I know you. You always take bus X and get off at Station Y. I've seen you like a 100 times" My heart dropped because he was correct, that was my school bus. He asked me where I was going and I said I was just taking a walk. That was a lie but I don't remember where I was really headed. He asked if he could come with me and I tried to get around it by reminding him that he was just heading the other way but he insisted. While walking he asked me if I had Facebook or other social media. Back then I didn't, but I would have said no anyways. I told him I needed to go into the next store and he asked if he should wait for me. I said no, it's gonna take a while and just hoped he would go away. I waited like 20min in that store I didn't actually need anything from. I didn't tell the store clerk, though I would have if he had actually waited outside. Thankfully he didn't and I ran back home.
Sometimes I still see him on that street but he never approached me again. That was 10 years ago so I don't remember the surroundings very well but what he said was pretty much burned into my brain.

Guys like that are so creepy. I have plenty act like they mean well because I’m legally blind and use a white cane 🦯 but so often they go about “helping” me in scary ways. Once when I was on my way back from university classes I had to walk around 4 extra blocks before the guy behind me stopped following me. I could see enough at the time to tell the dude was the same person and had been following me for more than 10 minutes, people who aren’t following me usually go past or change course pretty quick. I had to pretend I knew where I was going and hope I didn’t turn down a dead end. I’m honestly afraid of if I can be safe walking on my own once my vision finishes being lost.

I had someone follow me home from Dollar General once. It was after 8 at night and I'd needed to pick something up quick before home. I'd been working since 8 that morning and dumbass me thought they were also on their way home. I didn't realize they'd been behind me until I pulled in next to my brother's truck. They left soon after. I am very grateful my brother actually got home before I did for once. It still freaks me out wondering what they wanted to do.

When she went into the fridge she saw what she assumed was her now spoilt toxic takeaway and because she isn't insane did not open that stinkbomb and disposed it in the bin like any normal person would. Other people then disposed of their trash on top of it. The resolution is so obvious and banal that it makes the dramatic telling of the story hilarious. The OP path and then subverted our expectations for comic effect and did it hysterically.
My best 'the customer is always right' story happened when i uses to work at Homebase (a sort of DIY/gardening store)
I was working on the customer service desk when a customer called. He was shout and screaming at me calling me all names under the sun and demanded that i give him a refund for a gazebo cover. I had search through our computer system and could not find anything which matched his description.
I finally told him to come into the store with the cover and his receipt and ill see what i could do.
A few hours later he showed up. Found me, slammed his reciept on the table and again demanded a refund.
I looked at him and said 'sir, this is Homebase. You bought this at B&Q' 😂

I had a really creepy neighbor. He had just moved in, I was in the elevator with him and he stuck out his hand for me to shake. I thought nothing of it, and tried to shake his hand. He immediately started kissing up my arm, going for my chest. I was lucky in that all I had to say was "No!" And he stopped. Fortunately, I was also moving out that month so I didn't have to deal with him for long, but I started carrying a pocket knife with me for the duration of my move.

The “drunk” lady video reminded me of when I was a kid, 14 or 15 maybe, walking to a local store and this car full of guys drove past, then turned around and started following me really slowly. That oil one is horrendous. Many years ago the younger sister of a close friend died from oil on the road - she wasn't speeding, wasn't sleepy or drunk, just hit a patch of oil on a rural highway, lost control, and died on impact. Some months later I was in the audience at a car race where one of the cars dropped a gearbox full of oil on the track, and the maintenance people were out there in minutes tipping concrete powder over the spill - which absorbed it and made the surface safe to drive on.
If someone had done that where a car dropped a gutful of oil on the highway, Amy would still be alive now. Those people deliberately tipping oil on the road should be charged with attempted murder.
