This is one of my favorite Red Velvet title tracks still to this day - it is exactly their quirky red side with the power vocals that signal you are listening to Red Velvet. AH! I just love them so much. I'm so happy to see Red Velvet on the channel again and looking forward to more in the future!
Red Velvet's "Dumb Dumb" is about how people often think that Kpop girl groups are just dumb manufactured dolls, who all act and look the same. That's why we see them acting like robots stamping the word "dumb" on all the papers, and why they are in a factory with robotic arms that are assembling the doll-like idols, etc. This song and MV is breaking the stereotype and saying we are far from just cute and innocent. Hence, why they talk about Michael Jackson, "Billie Jean" and "Black and White." They are pointing out how they can be just as groundbreaking and forward thinking as Michael Jackson was and they can pull off the same type of songs and dances as the boys, etc. There is more to them than meets the eye. The fact that you think this MV is weird, just proves their point because they're not being like the typical "girl group." You should look up the lyrics for "Dumb Dumb" in order to see what the song is really about. It's weird because they are playing to all the misconceptions and stereotypes that people have about them. Red Velvet's whole concept is that they have a Red side and a Velvet side. Their Red side contains their songs which are sweet and innocent and their velvet side are their more "bad girl" vixen side. When they have a comeback, if they release a "Red" song then most of the time their next comeback with be with a more "Velvet" side song, and vice versa. That's one of the reasons why their songs are never quite the same, they are designed to contrast each other, and often dramatically.
Earlier eras of red velvet is still my favorite.. the fresh concept, youth vibe and very unique.. (even the MVs and outfits) dumb dumb, ice cream cake, be natural, one of these nights, russian roulletes.. 🩷🩷
The lyrics are about that feeling when you like a person and you freeze up and go dumb around them! they say they feel like a mannequin because they don't know how to move their body when interacting with them. So you can try and see the MV like its some deeper and meaningful video about the industry like some are saying in the comments. But its literally about them feeling dumb and stupid and the mass production of dolls/mannequins and how things go wrong in the face of a crush (receipts printing out like crazy, frizzled hair, body parts thrown in crates because they became 'broken' in the moment, imagination of multiple ways you could be or should have talked to them instead)
I remember watching this with my friends when it first came out 😭 its been so long but i do miss early RV for the nostalgic it gives me and the quirkyness
I think that you haven't seen quite a few of their brightest MVs, it might shock you but they actually have songs that aren't at all creepy haha, like Umpah Umpah, Power Up and Rookie, you also haven't seen their smoothest RnB MVs yet like Automatic and One Of These Nights if you ever feel like checking out a bit more RV
this song is the title track of their first full album "the red"! one of my favorites of all time, and i still haven't heard anything that has come close to sounding how cohesive yet wacky this song is.

"Dumb Dumb isn't just Kpop at it's most cognizant and audacious, it's the genre's untouchable masterpiece."
- Billboard.
I love that you comment this fact on every dumb dumb reaction video for the past how many years :)
@Lyf4rMusic It bears repeating. 😉
Even at their most unsettling, Red Velvet are a bewildering happy pill - in the best way ♥♥♥
The video's about how kpop groups are manufactured. 😂
Wrong. Read the lyrics.
@riffgroove I said video not song
@@StirsTooMuch I respect your interpretation, but I don't agree with it.
The video and the lyrics are not separate.
Dumb Dumb is an iconic moment in the culture! Timeless classic.
I believe NCT and Aespa are not inheriting Red Velvet's style. Red Velvet continues to carve out their unique musical path.
Earlier eras of red velvet is still my favorite.. the fresh concept, youth vibe and very unique.. (even the MVs and outfits) dumb dumb, ice cream cake, be natural, one of these nights, russian roulletes.. 🩷🩷
