The Slaws are on their early summer holiday to France. They leave Pontorson where they visited Mont Saint Michel.
They arrive at their campsite on Île de Ré in Loix, Flower Campings Les Ilates, toll charges from Pontorson to Île de Ré 14 euros 40, where they have an Emplacement Privilege for the week. Luxury - their own kitchenette, beer fridge, shower, sink and loo, with an undercover seating area.

It's an F1 weekend so their activities have to fit around this, but they still manage a cycle ride out to Saint Martin de Ré for lunch, so there's plenty of doggy cam 😀

Glad you’re enjoying the trip! You may have noticed Mrs Slaw said a few things wrong in this vlog. Also she was coughing and needed a nap in the day. She went downhill fast and lost two days holiday to illness 😢

Great vlog we love the l'île de Rey, you certainly picked one of the busiest bank holiday weekends. The L'île d'oleron is a little less touristy and just as beautiful especially when you go up to the very top of the island, brilliant for cycling and walking. As usual avoid July and August 😊

Started to catch up on your French adventure ,lovely pitch and stunning Island . We have been to I'le D'oleron and this looks like a must visit island.
Île de Ré is an absolute must visit! We went to Île d’Oleron a few years ago and we didn’t like it as much.
My top tip is using puppy pads when camping with tent and loo tent puppy pads under the loo and just put showers as well.

Thanks Julia, it’s a little island just off the coast of La Rochelle. You go over a large bridge to the Île de Ré. The climate is similar to the Mediterranean, with half the travel 🚍☀️

Hi Slaws, I know you are on your holibobs in France but after following your WAW trip last year we have hired a camper van and doing the trail. We are taking our dog and thinking of going for the EU passport but wondered how as Ballymena is in NI they issued your EU pet passports as I thought they had to be issued by European vets. Also will you have to get the rabies booster when you are on one of your European trips. Loving your France vids and having visited all the places you have been so far brought back great memories of many trips with our dogs in our old caravan. Shout our to Mr Slaw as well for all his great van tips are you ex forces Slaw seems pretty handy to have around. Enjoy the rest of your holidays and sorry for interrupting. 🌻☀️
Hi Margaret, NI retains EU rights under the protocol, so they can legitimately issue EU pet passports. We’ve used them twice now to Rotterdam and Calais with no problems. Jessie had her booster in the Netherlands and Billy will have his done on a European trip when it’s due. Glad you’re enjoying the trip and I hope you have a great time on the WAW 🚍☀️

Disappointed. Come on Alonso??? No No No. Good to see F1 coming first though. We are in France also although further south. Its rained every day had 3 big storms one knocked out the campsite electrics, one flooded the site we were high up so cleared fast. Enjoying our time away 4 weeks left. 😀😃😎

Have followed for a long time now - love your French trips in particular- Have noticed that you seem to use cash to pay at toll booths - do they not take cards or do you have another reason for not using cards ? Planning our first trip to France next year so trying to be prepared!

Is is easy to walk around the island, we have 2 dogs but do not have bikes. Is there dog friendly public transport please ? Pitch looks amazing and we are heading that way, shuttle booked for Monday.
Hi, people do walk on the cycle tracks, but it’s a big island so there’s quite some distance between towns. Sorry, we didn’t use any public transport so can’t say if it was dog friendly or not. You can hire bikes and dog trailers though. We saw that. Have a great trip 🚍☀️

I've just realised that you have a dropdown bed. Is it comfortable, and a full-size double bed? Do you prefer the french bed better?
We do! Friends and family have slept on it and say it’s comfortable. But it’s only been used occasionally. We had a custom made mattress for the French bed. It’s as comfortable as our bed at home now. We slept in Helga for a month earlier this year when we redecorated our bedroom. We couldn’t have done that on the original mattress 🤣
@@TheSlawsAdventures - I saw your vlog on getting the new mattress. Comparing the two beds, is the rear bed (forget the mattress) better than the drop-down? I'm considering a layout that has a drop-down instead of a rear bed. Stuart
I suppose I'm asking if the drop-down is a hassle.
@@retirement-adventures sorry I can’t comment on that, other than to say we see the drop down as an occasional bed when we have company. We’d never use it as it restricts the living space and we’ve no need to as we’ve got a fixed bed.
