100% agreed. Funny thing is I believe that's exactly how it used to be back in the 1800's - everybody had *their* newspaper, so of course you'd get bias if you read one paper or another, that was expected.

But I slowly started them being too leftist but hey, every media picks a side so I thought I'll just ignore that. Besides, it's good to get perspective from different sides. But then they started to defend every leftist sgenda and their arguments were so bizarre. What made me finally quit Vox was a video about "Why Taxes Are Unfair To Poor & Favour The Rich" and I was excited to learn something new. But do you know what their argument was? It went something like "If a poor person in the 10% tax bracket gave a tax-deductible charity donation of $100, then he only saves $10 in taxes. But if a rich person in the 37% tax bracket makes the same donation, he'll save $37. That's unfair." I remember shouting at my computer screen like, "DUDE! THAT"S HOW PERCENTAGES WORK!!!"

While they have their bias, everyone has bias. And different degree of bias. I think if the bias is closer to center, then the problem of bias should be looked more through a lens of values. What is the thing that we can agree. Then we can together look at the facts, together meaning I read the articles or listen to podcasts and do my own analysis. I think important values are liberalism, rule of law, strong democracy and belief in the discussion, as a way to find the best solution.

All news media is written by news journalists, who will inevitably project their political biases. The problem arises when media companies try to present themselves as unbiased and objective.
NPR really gets under my skin for doing this. Like, it's so obvious that their reporters scour for the most pro-government sources imaginable. Makes sense since NPR is government funded. Yet NPR just won't admit that they're partial towards certain views, and even wrote an article scoffing at accusations of bias.
All viewpoints should be supported by corroborated evidence. If you're only relying on one media company as a news source, you're probably getting misinformed to some degree. Used to be a fan of the channel “Second Thought” and left because of the same thing you just described with Vox. Second Thought was great at first but as it progressed, it became further and further left, to the point where he wasn’t so much as informing, rather he was ranting progressively more extremist views. I don’t mind hearing things I don’t support, that’s not why it bothered me. After all, I subbed to him because we originally did share common views. What bothered me is the degree he took things over the years. It became more and more inflammatory, more and more distance from centre with every upload. The thing that really upset me though is that I know he was very smart, and he could write and public speak SO well, however he never actually would offer solutions. He ONLY ever just stirred the pot but (especially after year two) never would actually stoke any of the “what do we do about this” part of the conversation. It’s easy to point out the flaws in society, and yes it is important to talk about them, but if all you are doing is stoking anger and promoting further partisanship/eco chambers, while doing nothing to actually work on the problem, then you’re actually sort of making it more difficult for us who are trying to find common ground and solutions to issues.
Over the course of a few years I saw a brilliant mind reduce themselves to mere click bait hatred stoking. He championed progress and enlightenment, but caused more damage than he solved.
And so it is with Vox. For a while it was good, but it ended up growing into something very different.

They started off with some balance in their videos and analyses, but seem to increasingly take a left-leaning perspective to things and go with click-baity titles. They probably had these biases behind the scenes from the very start but are now allowing these to come through because they've concluded that their demographic likes this and it drives more traffic.

  • @3_pancakes767

TL:DR. I don't like the POV at VOX and they just happened to have a bit of a downfall. How are they related? Your guess is as good as mine. Oh yeah almost forgot about how they were turning into BuzzFeed but I don't think that's the main reason, the main reason is that I don't like their skewedness.
Edit: like when you make a claim like that 6:38, you have to explain how them "telling one side of stories" led to it. Otherwise you just seem to be expressing nothing but discontempt with the company and gratitude at their downfall. If your reasoning just applies itself to media companies, how is Fox news for example not having a downfall? It's hard to believe the number of people here that just take your words at face value and believe it despite zero attempt from you to either explain it or at least give an example of a creator quitting due to them disagreeing with vox's bias.
Also whatever political side they want to advocate is completely up to them, and don't even get me started on how you seem to be confusing "covering" with "advocating".
As given by many other media companies, a bunch of people being mad at them does not actually harm the media company.

    1. "Vox censoring/deplatforming the other side" 10:46
Vox isn't a platform nor a state. It's a private entity. Vox doesn't owe the right a voice.
    2. "Vox is one sided"
Highly subjective. But if you mean one-sided as in "should also cover the right side of opinion", you have missed what Vox was all about in the first place. Not only are they proudly left, their content is primarily narrative journalism. What that means is it's almost creative literary, but backed up by facts. Wiki will explain it better, but tldr: Narrative journalism requires an agenda. This is not your weather news @11:50.
    3. No one is unbiased, doubly so in narrative media.
News is never neutral. It's not supposed to be. When people demand objectivity, what they really want is for their viewpoints to be covered. But the only promise of journalism is to be factual, not give everyone airtime @9:06. When a news reports a murder without the killer's opinion, does it stop being true?
    Objectivity is your personal responsibility.

The problem with vox is that they are obnoxious and lacking any self-reflection. Are there people who don't believe the existence of COVID? Yes they are a tiny tiny minority. The real debate over COVID was whether it was a serious as people thought, it wasn't, and how to deal with it. Those are real debates. Vox supported silencing actual doctors and preventing them from informing people about actual treatments.
No, there is a debate on global warming or rather global climate change. And there's more than one. There is a question of how much global climate change is actually going on and the extent to which humans are involved. There's a second debate of how best to address it.
For the record, I was warning people in January 2020 about COVID-19 and taking steps to avoid it like wearing a KN95 mask and gloves on the subway and other mass transit. I was taking steps that the government didn't want to, when the government was actively lying. They were lying in order to ensure that doctors would get the protective care equipment. Speaking of which, they've never apologized or explained why they lied, which undermined everything else they did. I've had three boosters and had COVID. Despite being vaccinated and having boosters, it damaged my heart.
I believe in global climate change and addressing it. I just don't necessarily agree with the way that the left is addressing it. I think if people want to address it seriously, we would be building a dozen nuclear power plants in America right now.

Please research the Overton window and it’s progression rightward. A journalist’s job is not to present both views, it’s to seek out the truth. If one side says “it’s raining outside” and the other side says “it’s not raining outside”, the journalist’s job is to go outside and find the truth. That metaphor is famous within journalistic theory/education. Sorry mate. B- is quite generous I think.

I agree 'literary' with your view, I agree with the problem assessed. And everything stated here is fairly presented and informed, as is usual per this channel.
However, I think it's impossible to stay neutral with any news topic, because of so many factors, such as philosophical, technical, you name it. I know that Vox is an American generic wanna be “liberal” media. Sometimes being in the middle or letting the "other side" talk, (depending upon context) it's not something that will give a fair perspective.
There's a fallacy in American political discourse, that states that there are two extremes, and that by calming each other down, you can get something fair. They are topics that simply are one-sided, others that are more nuanced, or they have implicit meaning with what's not said.
Moreover, trying to be factual, knowing that is impossible (no really, even scientific papers have 'political' motivation, trying to prove or discredit something) implies a biased view from whom is saying such thing.
I don't blame Logically Answered for the 'one sided' take, even tough I agree with the problems with Vox, because what prompt me to this comment, is something much broader and complex that I see, among watching Anglo content creators.
Keep up the good work, cheers 👍🏻
