Are you good at jiu jitsu? Not being a tool just curious to see whether a brown or black belt would get crushed by a smaller man with this technique I’ve been crushed by kesa before but only by people bigger than me.
@@prandz420 it works, I’m 170 pounds and have tapped 220+ pound guys with it. I’m a bjj blue belt and judo brown belt, it’s kind of a staple in judo and we spend a tremendous amount of time drilling it because a 20 second pin is a win in judo.
@@thedopesickshow do you find it can be just as stable as the other osaekomi? I really like the position but I find it takes a lot of effort to keep and find myself getting tired maintaining the position. I’d like to get to the point where I can relax while the person underneath suffers
@@prandz420 it all comes down to the opponent’s shoulder, if you keep that shoulder off the ground you win and if they can get it to the ground they can possibly take your back. To solve this I keep the shoulder shelfed on my thigh and connect the arm that goes around the head behind my knee by grabbing it. You don’t go up too high (your body), that’s a common mistake and makes it possible to reverse. If you have their shoulder on your thigh and pull their head off the ground it makes it impossible to bridge. There’s a balance with substantially stronger people of pressure and then letting your body be a wet blanket to keep from getting reversed if you’re not familiar with the position, but to apply pressure I put my body a little lower, squeeze the head up (don’t strain but get the head up and lock in position) and lift my butt off the ground so they carry my weight. Sometimes I do the “mothers milk” (smother) by pulling the face into my chest for extra umph. I’m doing well today but did 5 years in federal prison (off heroin since April 9th 2010) and had 2 years training prior to prison. I used kesa gatame in actual fights a couple times and we actually trained grappling a bit in there and it was something with little experience that worked successfully any and every time against substantially bigger people so I have a lot of faith in it. Add strikes and they’re absolutely helpless (watch Ronda Rousey vs Alexis Davis). A lot of judo throws land you directly into kesa gatame so it’s something in judo you must get good at. An INCREDIBLE drill you need to do and are doing yourself a huge disservice is take turns with a training partner allowing trip or throw, but once you hit the ground it’s a live round for 30 seconds. You must pin them or you must escape depending on if you’re throwing or getting thrown. There’s a HUGE disconnect between standing and ground and in competition when I’ve landed throws this has helped me because I don’t wait and admire my work, I get to work and get position QUICK while most opponents have a 2 second deer in headlights moment once it hits the ground and realize oh yeah we’re still going. In judo a 20 second pin is a win, but you only have 20 seconds to get it so it’s much more explosive and aggressive. On top of that how quick you get stood up varied referee to referee.
I bought Henry's soul stealer . Haven't quite used it yet. My ribs feeling better. I've been saying hey take it easy on my rib I don't wanna be crushing people. But in a few weeks I think ill be 100 percent. I also used a guard pass from Henry. I just happened to watch a video of his. Then tried it in class. I like his style of bjj.
Akins scarf hold instructional is outstanding. Have had a great degree of success using it since I got it. Shout out to Dan Hart for helping me with the few questions I had on it.
This is my favorite position, by far, due to the stated reasons in the video. However, I've always had problems with getting swept from this position - are there any pointers on how to avoid that?
By getting swept, you mean getting bridged over as it is shown in the video? If so, your weight is probably too far towards the midline of your opponent. It could help to stay further to the outside and keep your weight lower to the ground overall (ie, lean forward). They can only effectively bridge you when they get their hips close to yours (similar to how its hard to bridge someone out of high mount)
@@bjarneschmalbach1524 They can also kick their leg up and hook it around your neck to sweep and even submit. keeping your head and weight lower to the ground so they cant get their leg around your neck/head would also be the defense for this
Whats more annoying, the crowd that says dont cross your ankles on back control or the crowd that says dont go over the head on scarf hold and go for the far underhook instead?
There's three basic escapes that can be combod and a lot it depends on the distance between your hips and his. They are very hard to just write out and make sense. But the three basic escapes are something you should have learned at white belt.
And in sparring between these two Henry would not even get close to try that on Bernardo. Lol! Bernardo is just as good in marketing his products than he was as a competitor, top of the top!

Henry: Do you feel that?
ARGGHHHHHH YES
Bernardo´s reactions are priceless. And the techniques are amazing. Thank you both!
Benardo’s pain during this demo sold me on this instructional. I hope I can give this gift of pain/uncomfort to the much younger stronger opponents.
Bernardo you are the true best. A marter for jiu-jitsu. God bless
I've been to 4 classes now and I tapped a blue belt at least my size tonight with scarf hold pressure! Thanks Henry!
Did you tap someone on your first lesson?
Which he let you have. No genuine blue belt would of tapped to a white belts scarf hold.
Between this, smother taps and the weather these next few weeks on the mats will be brutal! Amazing details as always.
I appreciate you!! Thats my favorite position also...tenderize them first to break the will!!
love it henry akins and thanks bernardo for taking another one for the community

So how did it go,?
Bernardo is such a legend
yes! more henry akins and kesa gatame!
Hahahah this was great. Thank you Bernardo for experiencing this for our pleasure hahaha
Wow so much information packed into this short clip! Great! Thank you!
God bless you Bernardo!
I bought this and it’s extremely detailed and good.
Thank you Henry!! Loving this stuff!!
Henry is one of a kind! Thank you
Thank Bernardo!

Excellent. Thank you.
3:19….”Aaaagghhh” 🤣🤣😁😂
Bernado has never been tortured this much for an instructional video haha
I plan on attending his seminars
Excellent
yes >>top notch instruction
thanks
I love the name he gave his scarf hold instructional. The Soul Stealer😂
AWESOME
Damn Bernardo! I hope you were ok🤯

Bending their head towards their chest avoids that too. Henry does that by bringing the knee up of the leg is is holding

Goldmine!
Lmao.
Henry: You see how it puts pressure on it.
Bernardo : eeee yea yea yea yea.
The cries of pain 😵😳😱
I never heard Bernado making so many noise :)))
Bernardo-ahhhhrg
Henry is using a combination of Judo and Catch wrestling locks from Scarf hold.
That looked fun 🙄
Ayayayayayayayayayayay 😂😂😂😂🤕🚑🚑🚑
I know EXACTLY how Bernardo feels. Being Henry’s demo dummy sucks beyond measure.

Well, why do you want to cross your ankles on back control?
Can someone send me a link to an escape for this before I quit BJJ forever ha ha ah

Would recommend submeta as an alternative to bjj fanatics if you can be bothered paying for something
