damn it myron, i was really wanting a better look at marlene, even tho they matched "policeman" with "man" for her, so inconsistent with their own rules, cleared up in season 2? 15:06, we know what you were thinking betty, what "he could dial his phone with." no matter who you are, or what you look like, 16:42 it's never a dignified departure when they spin you off the set.
Marilyn Monroe did sing "happy birthday, Mister President" to JFK, albeit a bit dated even in 1973. It is the standard form of address for the President of the United States. Famous TV characters are probably more popular for audience matches.
This is the saddest match game that I've seen in awhile how is it that mr. Magoo doesn't give mr. Magoo as his answer and then the guy chooses mr. Magoo's horrible answer which is mr. President, the ladies offer him the top two answers and he ignores both of them
Back then (as it should still be) it was considered in poor taste to self-promote in this particular situation. I thought it showed elegance on Backus' part.

ROFL! Another fine episode! ;0) ROFL! Love ya Gene! ;0) ROFL! Love ya Patti! ;0) ROFL! Love ya Betty! ;0) The start of the comedy team of Dawson and Rayburn?? Love the married bit.. ;0) At least he got the panel laughing this time instead of the other way around.. ;0) I keep trying to figure out why they couldn’t put a stand on the audience match side of the turnable for the hand mic so Gene didn’t have to watch two mic cables or remember to grab it before going to the audience match. But then again that is just me.. ;0)
All these decades since I watched this show when it originally aired I NEVER understood why Brett Somers was even on the show, let alone made a regular. The damn broad just couldn't keep her yap shut. She thought she was oh so clever and witty when in fact she was a rude, loudmouthed bore. No wonder Jack couldn't live with her. And that's really saying something given Jack was a loud guy. At least he wasn't a bore.
Sometimes comedy revolves around a protagonist that the others play off of. They were looking for someone to spur the others on. I liked her, and she was funny in some ways.
That was an act, by the way, the way Jack Klugman talked bad about Brett. They were married for 17 years at this point and remained married until Brett's death.
My favorite show 2 watch ,when the cable is out
Brett's outfit, history repeating itself
ROXI 1010 I was thinking the same thing!
Brett never says anything nice to anyone pretty.
@@mlchc9004 yes she does. Plenty of times.

So Betty says "Mr. Magoo" and not Jim Backus?
My thought exactly!
He voiced over a cartoon, it was called Mr. Magoo
Barney,
Apparently, the celebrities never answer with the name of their own character during a Super Match... someone else has to do it!
Edward Lozano hhn
loretta swit did the same thing with "_____ lips" her "mash" character "hot lips" was one of the answers but she gave something else.

I thought of paper roses too. I'm surprised that it wasn't up there. 1973 wasn't that far off from when it was a popular song in the 50s.
Mister Rogers!
Yes! Mr. Rogers! Who is Mr. Roberts? I guess if it was 1973, I'd know.
Maybe he wasn't a household name yet.

Brett gave Betty a lot of crap in these early episodes.
Betty has more talent on her worst day than Brett on her best.
