Hi Shelby, I'm from Belgium and I'm planning to open a store with all kinds of feeder insects one day (say next year or so).
I'm now trying different insects (mealworms, buffalo's, wax moths, locusts, dubia roaches) and, since April '22 I also added crickets to my "is-this-doable-raising-by-yourself-list".
This morning my first self bred pinheads were born. At first attempt. Woohoo!
Of course, I need to get them to adulthood for it to be a successful breed. I know I'm not there yet.
But, I admit I had a bit of a head-start thanks to you. :)
Your YT channel is SOOOO great and educational. I've visited quite a lot of channels on insect breeding, but although there are some really good ones out there about other insects. None of them is on par with yours. You must spend a lot of time making these educational video's.
Anyway, I wish you all the best with your company and I am very grateful you've decided to share your experiences in breeding crickets with the world.
I'm also planning of making video's like yours in Dutch some day, but first things first: "Learning (a lot) about breeding them successfully."

Agree, start small. Fortunately, didn't lose a ton. I think the water, humidity and temperature is where things went wrong.

Where did you get your starter crickets from? And what age? can you tell me a bit more about the environment you were keeping them in? It will help with troubleshooting!
@@BuildingInASmallTown I bought them online. Most arrived alive and well, standard die off, probably even a lesser rate. Did fine at first. We used a plate for water at first and then switched to a bird feeder as I think I saw in one of your videos with branches across it and pebbles in the trough for then to stand on.
The main issue I think I had was the temp and humidity. I live at 7400ft and the room doesn't get a lot of direct sun so the temp tends to be the same as the outside.
I don't think I even saw any eggs hatch either which I think the Peet moss didn't stay wet/moist enough.
Ages were 3 to 6 weeks.

they're 50 gal bins. Shoot for .6 lbs of crickets per sq ft of grow space (eventually, get it up to 1 lb/sq ft)

Hi, I followed the guides and am growing them as you showed. Despite providing food, water, and protein, I noticed they still tend to eat each other. Have you found a way to prevent this?
This is going to happen! What kind of protein are you feeding them?
What size containers do you use to house your crickets and how do you know how many crickets you have in each one?
I’ve grown in 18 gal and 50 gal containers. There’s pros and cons to both. For the 50s we aim for 5-10k crickets per bin depending on the time of year.
@@BuildingInASmallTown thank you. My local shops are low on crickets supplies and breeders can’t keep up with the demand so I figured this would a be a good opportunity to give it a shot.
@@lolo9fo unfortunately, it sounds like that's getting more common! There's a fairly steep learning curve, but once you get the hang of it, you should have more than enough to keep your animals fed and happy
@@BuildingInASmallTown yeah. Been watching your videos and it’s been helping. I plan on being a live cricket supplier for local businesses and can currently store up to 200,000 max capacity. But I’m starting small as you stated in a previous video and maybe one day I’ll get there
