im thinking of buying one of these old fire trucks... the one im looking at is a fss550, has 30,000klms and is a 1997, 4x4... Im curious considering the age of these trucks, yet low klms, have you found yours reliable so far... are they a rough ride.. thirsty on fuel etc.. any input would be appreciated.. I cant find much on youtube on these old firetrucks... some of the ones I found forsale seem well priced, all low klms etc.. I presume as fire trucks they would have been over serviced even with low klms.. would love some honesty about your opinion on the over all truck... thanks a heap.. gl to you
My truck is 8 years older and an older model. Yours is akin to the FTS750 which has a totally different engine in it. So can’t give you exact comparison. Having said that, these trucks are extremely reliable and tough. Mine has the 6.5 litre six normally aspirated with a 6 speed gearbox no overdrive, yours probably has the 7 speed box? With the camper box on and tanks full etc mine is around 10 ton and averages around 25/26 litre per 100 with the super single wheels and tyres. Hope this helps. As for ride the SS have made a difference in comfort, but at the end of the day it’s a cab over design and it will always be truck like ride.
Brilliant covered deck to sit and admire the view and have a drink.
Nice work Omar 👍
Thank you mate I appreciate it.
