very interresting ! i didn't know gibson also had ebony shortage for the fretboards in the 30s, i thought only around 46-49. it could justify why my 36 super 400 you played on our video has a rosewood board
Thank you for this video. I have a 1938 Gibson L5 "G.U.T." guitar that I inherited from my Great Uncle Tony with original natural finish and white pick guard. I wish you could play it.
I'll just go ahead and say something entirely clichéd -- that Matt could make a cigar box strung with rubber bands sound good. That L-5 is a beauty -- sonically and visually. I'm looking for a 25 1/2" archtop, myself. The shorter scale has its own charm, but I feel more comfortable with the typical Fender scale (not that Fenders are typical terrain for me). I couldn't recommend Matt's _Roots of Jazz Guitar_ course at PN more highly. "When I Grown Too Old To Dream" is lovely here.
Not only does it sound wonderful Matt, it also looks fabulous! These blondes could be the best looking guitars ever made....
One of my favourite tunes of Hank Penny. I had the same guitar only it was a 54. Love your stuff and the jam with Jonathan Stout 👍🏼

Minute 8:05 - I'd be kinda thrilled too, Matt! 😃

Is there a handwritten dimension on the label such as "1 1/8"" ,or less for thin-top, indicating max bridge height?
Nice guitar👍. is it tone-bar or x braced?
That’s not Birdseye. That’s called “blistered” maple. Nice guitar
🎉👏👏👏👏
Wow, something older than me! Sure sounds better than me! 🤣🤣🤣
