Sophia was and will always be one of my faves of all time .. the fact that she didn’t start training in ballet school till a few years ago is amazing .. i was a little sadden when she slowed her dancing down to peruse her music .. but i hope she gets back into It because she’s one of a kind 🙌🏾❤️
Sophia is clearly and x-woman and her super power is dance. All kidding aside this is a wonderful example of someone who has a natural gift in combination with outstanding work ethic and passion.
Jackie was the only new mom who actually put her daughters needs above dance. Sophia didn't want to be there and she listened and respected that. Same with Chloe and Christi. I don't know about Kelly though because I think she made the girls quit on her own feelings and they still wanted to go cause thats where their friends were but I dont remember

Brooke was in severe pain and was riddled with injuries, her doctor told her if she continued dancing the way she was then she would be unable to walk by the time she was 21. yet Abby kept giving her acro dance after acro dance. Paige never wanted to be a professional dancer and just went to dance because she enjoyed it and loved her friends there but Abby bullied her so much that it was no longer fun. Brooke and Paige said how dance became a "chore" very early on in the show and they did not want to stay any longer. however, they were in a 6 season contract (all of the moms were) and the only reason their contract got broken was because Kelly physically assaulted Abby which led to Lifetime firing her and breaking the contract. so yeah, the Hyland girls did NOT want to stay. Brooke was being bullied constantly and was in severe pain. Paige was being bullied constantly as well.

Sophia quit competition dancing, she will continue to dance on her own but she wants to concentrate in acting. All of them are starting to see the real world as Maddie Ziegler has, the truth is there isn't much money in dancing and it has a very short career. How long can the body keep up with competitive dancing. As good as she is and I agree that she is the best she couldn't even get on SYTYCD. Because in the real world it isn't who the best dancer is, but what dancer the public likes most, and with 3 teen choice awards I think we all know who that is.
Maddie is not a great dancer. She is a good dancer, a really good performer, but nothing compared to the truly great dancers out there. Dance Moms put blinders on everyone and made sure we didn't see amazing dancers or making sure we didn't appreciate how great they were (we didn't really see Sophia dance much when it wasn't a final performance and Kalani and Brynn were both always poised and not being good enough to be on Maddie's level when they were far more technical and talented). Dance Moms hyped Maddie up for years, but she really isn't all that. She had a lot of potential when she was younger, but she has never been one of the greats. She is just a name everyone knows so people assume she is the best. I'm not a Maddie hater, I'm just realistic.
Jordan, can you do a video where you explain what the technical terms you use mean? A bit like a "glossary"? I'd really appreciate that! About Sophia, I love how she recently started dancing more as if it were a form of art and not just "turn turn trick turn".
I love Sophia and I think she's by far the best dancer in her age category. I really look forward to watching her grow even further as a dancer. I grew up in a dance studio myself so I really care about technique, flexibility, understanding spacing and formations, timing, fluidity and continuity of the movement and so on, just as much as the emoting/character, and overall "show factor". I guess this is the reason why I appreciate Sophia so much, she's just checking every box. I have some sort of critique for every single dancer on Dance Moms except for her. I have yet to see a correction needing to be applied in recent years. Like, ofc there's always room for improvements, but I really haven't noticed her doing anything technically wrong. I think it would be really fun to see how Sophia would do in hip hop though, because I've barely seen her do it at all. I'm guessing it'll be a challenge for her because she's so used to applying technique to every single movement, but since this kid is basically this century's gift to the dancing world I'm sure she would get the hang of it fast. I'm guessing it won't happen but it would be fun if she would challenge herself on a totally different style of dance!

She took a break from dance to take care of mental health (issues around eating and over-exercising). She also had a hand/arm injury that prevented her from doing her normal tricks. She is dancing again and is focusing on contemporary. She looks more happy and vibrant in her recent videos.
That is crazy! I saw a few you tube videos of Sophia dancing ballet with a partner and she looked great. I do not like watching dancers who look like they are skinny to the point of being malnourished. I saw a performance of Romeo and Juliet by ABT years ago and gasped when I saw how thin the dancer was who played Juliet. Kind of ruined it for me.
Areana Angel I was watching her ballet segment and wondered how successful she’d be because she wasn’t as sickly thin as the professional ones. Then I read your comment which kind of confirmed they’d bring up her weight. I knew they would. I’m glad Sophia put herself first instead of doing something unhealthy, but these ballet professionals need to stop with the unhealthy and unrealistic dieting pushing. Clearly Sophia can dance and do it wonderfully well. The weight comment was unnecessary, especially with how well she dances.
I remember showing my best friend a video of Sophia when I first found her. (Her mom owned the studio that I grew up dancing at) She was so impressed and said that if we were the same age as her and ran into her at competition that it would be in our best interest to just withdraw! 😂

I mean, she's already one of the best dancers to have ever appeared on Dance Moms, & about the best dancer that I've personally ever seen! It's just a shame that Abby Lee & the ALDC didn't have anything to offer such a prominent, budding Lil' Ballet Goddess such as Sophia.....Smh! I would've loved to watch her dance for several seasons on the show, but she would've probably just regressed a lot, due to Abby's weakness in the ballet genre. As much as I don’t think it matter where you live and train... but Sophia definitely had so much more than dance moms at her fingertips living here in LA. There’s so much opportunity to learn for an endless amount of great teachers , choreographers or the crazy amount of opportunities that come with being a performer in Los Angeles that has made a name for themselves... I’m glad she left dance moms for herself... was the best move for this little prodigy.
yeah! the pittsburgh girls are the true story of the small town kid making it big in the BIG CITY lol. I think when you grow up in a more secluded environment, you maintain more passion because it still feels unique, instead of being everyone around you and readily available
I would really love to see her go full out into classical ballet, she would be amazing in a company that does a wide variety of work and continues to produce new works in a variety of styles, I'd love to see her work with Wayne McGregor.
@@gabriellacortes-alban8834 Unfortunately a lot of dancers that shine young seem to struggle with that last couple of years of training needed before you turn pro. Also, ballet companies in the US rarely pay year round and the age you get a salary is getting later and later, they are creating more and more ways to have you pay for another year of training, or not get paid and thus need someone to support you financially. It's not surprising many of them need or choose to use their name recognition to earn money teaching, it's a lot more lucrative than the number of freelance performing opportunities. The good news is, Brady Farrar is still in training, he's grown taller and way more muscular, even though he's still a student he's been doing performances with company members.
YES YES YES! She is probably my favorite young dancer. I’m glad she was on DM so people got exposed to her but I am tremendously glad she left because her dancing was too big for that show. Proud to have her as a representative of San Diego dance even tho she left us for Arizona (sniff sniff- maybe come dance just once with CalBal pretty please???). She’s so gifted and you can see how hard she works. She did a pas de deux at a competition that literally made me cry. And I’m pretty judgey and tough. Awesome video!
i gotta add- to me, when you look at the kids on Dance Moms- Sophia is a DANCER/Artist and the other kids are Dancer/Entertainers. This isn’t shade- it kinda highlights the different uses/paths in the industry. I think Kalani could have gone this way too but chose the entertainer route.
Often when I watch dancing, outside of the actual acrobatics, I often think "I could do that". I think a lot of us do. Logically, we know that's not true, but it feels true. Sophia is doing stuff that is complex enough that I can't even try to think "I could do that" but she somehow still makes it look easy! Maybe easy isn't the right word... Idk.

One of the things I don’t like about what Abby does which may have mainly come from the show... but she pigeonholes each dancer into one specific style that was there best and kind of only pushes them in that direction.... Sophia clearly took many classes and mastered many different styles of dance... I kind of think that Abby started doing that because of dance moms... I could be wrong though
Hey! I totally see what you're talking about. Basically, because this was a TV show, they were trying to Brand the girls, so that you see a definitive contrast between them, and when you think of them individually, they all have their own unique style. They are just creating a Typecast. This helped the girls stand out and be successful. Think Spice Girls (Sporty, Posh, Scary, etc), they all have their own unique style that they stick to! Is it realistic that there entire personality is that? Or that it represents all of their skills or what they are best at? No, definitely not! BUT it does help them stand out and help people remember them. This has a positive and a negative. Typecasting is successful and creating a brand and a niche for artists, but on the negative, we always associate them with that typecast, eg, Jim Carey And Amanda bynes are always expected to be goofy and funny, Michael Cera is always awkward, Abby is always strict and 'mean'. This is super successful in building a career, BUT since people remember you in only that one way, it pigeonholes you into a box and makes it really hard to move on or branch out to other things. We are seeing this with Kenzie, she's having a really hard time having her audience accept her as a Singer, not a Dancer. It can take a LONG time to break a typecast, but it can be done. And without building a typecast, it's really to build a brand and stand out amongst the crowd as an artist. So most artists do this to get started. Lady Gaga did a GREAT job creating her typecast over 10 years, and now she is slowly breaking it and moving on to new ventures! But very slowly!!! WE would not accept Gaga as just a classy leading lady... YET, because we associate her with Mother Monster! BUT, she will be accepted by the public as a leading lady if she sticks to conservative acting work. It's weird and dehumanizing when you actually work in the entertainment industry, But, the public always will see them more of a brand than a 3 dimensional person, unfortunately!
When she performed on dancing with the stars and she flipped her leg up to show Chelsea Hightower and the other dancers and they were like.... uhhhhhhhhh how did she do that?!?!? Lol
I have always felt she was the best child dancer out there and when I hear interviews with a dance moms kid saying they are the best I want to throw something at the TV. This show taught me that tv is fake and you get what you can pay for how ever you pay for it. Sophia is an amazing dancer who deserves more attention that the others getting it all But I am also glad she has spent her time focusing on being the best dancer because it shows in her outcome while the others every one knows are not even dancers anymore they are paying for the fame they are getting and not with their talent

I unfortunately did not ever do dance competitions! I started dancing really late in life. I was thinking of finding some adult competitions in my area to go to this year though!
I think Sophia needed to be on Dance Moms for the small time she was there. She was known in the dance world, but showing her talent on national tv was going to help her get more exposure and jobs. Mostly because she stood out among the ALDC because its easy to see her as a good dancer, but when you put her with other good dancers you see she is leaps and bounds above them. Abby knew Sophia was going to be a guest thats why she never put her up against Maddie. She didn't want a girl she didn't train beat her (thats the same with Kalani )
LMFAO SAME though. Even when was like 9 and I was already in my 20s I was like WELL, I guess it's over, I'll never be as good as this little girl! Lol.

As a dancer / dance teacherI have my students look up to her as a role model not Maddie Ziegler Sophia is a breath of fresh air when she dances her turns are amazing her transitions in her movements are so graceful she's an angel on stage and the fact that she doesn't dance anymore really upsets me cuz she was born to dance. And I agree Jordan I was so happy when she joined Dance moms but then I was so upset when I seen the dances they gave her I'm very happy she left because that show could have ruined her all the moms are already jealous of her because she would have beat Maddie and the other dancers Everytime.. and the other moms would have ruined her so I'm very happy she left. She's going to go down in history as one of the greatest dancers in history... And I do the same Jordan I watched her additude turns and that's how I perfected mine and I have my dancers watch her videos.. had technique is flawless..

She went through puberty and struggled with her body image so took a break from competition dancing

I think she did end up doing that for a few years! Now she is giving master classes and privates

YES YES YES! She is probably my favorite young dancer. I’m glad she was on DM so people got exposed to her but I am tremendously glad she left because her dancing was too big for that show. Proud to have her as a representative of San Diego dance even tho she left us for Arizona (sniff sniff- maybe come dance just once with CalBal pretty please???). She’s so gifted and you can see how hard she works. She did a pas de deux at a competition that literally made me cry. And I’m pretty judgey and tough. Awesome video!
i gotta add- to me, when you look at the kids on Dance Moms- Sophia is a DANCER/Artist and the other kids are Dancer/Entertainers. This isn’t shade- it kinda highlights the different uses/paths in the industry. I think Kalani could have gone this way too but chose the entertainer route.

Often when I watch dancing, outside of the actual acrobatics, I often think "I could do that". I think a lot of us do. Logically, we know that's not true, but it feels true. Sophia is doing stuff that is complex enough that I can't even try to think "I could do that" but she somehow still makes it look easy! Maybe easy isn't the right word... Idk.

Sophie is amazing
One of the things I don’t like about what Abby does which may have mainly come from the show... but she pigeonholes each dancer into one specific style that was there best and kind of only pushes them in that direction.... Sophia clearly took many classes and mastered many different styles of dance... I kind of think that Abby started doing that because of dance moms... I could be wrong though
Hey! I totally see what you're talking about. Basically, because this was a TV show, they were trying to Brand the girls, so that you see a definitive contrast between them, and when you think of them individually, they all have their own unique style. They are just creating a Typecast. This helped the girls stand out and be successful. Think Spice Girls (Sporty, Posh, Scary, etc), they all have their own unique style that they stick to! Is it realistic that there entire personality is that? Or that it represents all of their skills or what they are best at? No, definitely not! BUT it does help them stand out and help people remember them. This has a positive and a negative. Typecasting is successful and creating a brand and a niche for artists, but on the negative, we always associate them with that typecast, eg, Jim Carey And Amanda bynes are always expected to be goofy and funny, Michael Cera is always awkward, Abby is always strict and 'mean'. This is super successful in building a career, BUT since people remember you in only that one way, it pigeonholes you into a box and makes it really hard to move on or branch out to other things. We are seeing this with Kenzie, she's having a really hard time having her audience accept her as a Singer, not a Dancer. It can take a LONG time to break a typecast, but it can be done. And without building a typecast, it's really to build a brand and stand out amongst the crowd as an artist. So most artists do this to get started. Lady Gaga did a GREAT job creating her typecast over 10 years, and now she is slowly breaking it and moving on to new ventures! But very slowly!!! WE would not accept Gaga as just a classy leading lady... YET, because we associate her with Mother Monster! BUT, she will be accepted by the public as a leading lady if she sticks to conservative acting work. It's weird and dehumanizing when you actually work in the entertainment industry, But, the public always will see them more of a brand than a 3 dimensional person, unfortunately!

I have always felt she was the best child dancer out there and when I hear interviews with a dance moms kid saying they are the best I want to throw something at the TV. This show taught me that tv is fake and you get what you can pay for how ever you pay for it. Sophia is an amazing dancer who deserves more attention that the others getting it all But I am also glad she has spent her time focusing on being the best dancer because it shows in her outcome while the others every one knows are not even dancers anymore they are paying for the fame they are getting and not with their talent

I unfortunately did not ever do dance competitions! I started dancing really late in life. I was thinking of finding some adult competitions in my area to go to this year though!

I think Sophia needed to be on Dance Moms for the small time she was there. She was known in the dance world, but showing her talent on national tv was going to help her get more exposure and jobs. Mostly because she stood out among the ALDC because its easy to see her as a good dancer, but when you put her with other good dancers you see she is leaps and bounds above them. Abby knew Sophia was going to be a guest thats why she never put her up against Maddie. She didn't want a girl she didn't train beat her (thats the same with Kalani )
I would like to be 1/10 as good at anything as Sofia is at dancing.

Jordan Sparks I totally agree she's going to be the best dancer of all time I am so upset that she stopped dancing. As a dancer / dance teacherI have my students look up to her as a role model not Maddie Ziegler Sophia is a breath of fresh air when she dances her turns are amazing her transitions in her movements are so graceful she's an angel on stage and the fact that she doesn't dance anymore really upsets me cuz she was born to dance. And I agree Jordan I was so happy when she joined Dance moms but then I was so upset when I seen the dances they gave her I'm very happy she left because that show could have ruined her all the moms are already jealous of her because she would have beat Maddie and the other dancers Everytime.. and the other moms would have ruined her so I'm very happy she left. She's going to go down in history as one of the greatest dancers in history... And I do the same Jordan I watched her additude turns and that's how I perfected mine and I have my dancers watch her videos.. had technique is flawless..
