Avoid the intercostal nerves and vessels that run immediately beneath the rib by inserting the needle just above the upper border of the rib. Chest tubes should be inserted at the 4th-5th intercostal space in the anterior or mid-axillary line.

Pleuroperitoneal membrane forms the dorsolateral part. 4. Dorsal mesentry of the esophagus forms the crura. 5. Mesenchyme of the chest wall forms the marginal part (costal origin).
