Also, when filling an eyedropper pen, turn the pen nib down when you have about two more turns to tighten the barrel. Continue tightening the barrel. The air at the top of the barrel will displace the ink, forcing it into the feed faster.

If you want one of these, the Yiren 358 is the same pen right down to the box. It even says Wing Sung on the back. Both sections are a solid colour. That is the only difference. I paid $6 Canadian/free delivery ($4 US) on Ali Express. Yiren is part of the Wing Sung/Hero/Paili group. The clear feed on the 659 looks like the one on my Wing Sung 6359. I don't like the way these look but they do function as an ink window.
I have a white 659, small cracks in the plastic above the clip band. I have a 78g in red which is perfect. Still you pays your money and takes your choice. I like both despite the small cracks on the 659. The clear feed and section on the Wing Sung looks great.

Heads up everyone. I received my 659 demonstrator/clear over the weekend. After cleaning and drying, I used a syringe to fill it wit General of the Army. The end of the barrel is not closed. It leaked! After a reclean, I discovered I could blow through the barrel. Check yours!
I'd like to see a compilation video on some really good eyedropper pens. I've truly enjoyed watching the ink on the ones I've done. As a newb, it is especially nice when they aren't expensive and I don't have too much worry over damaging some nice pens while I'm learning. I came across Yiren 358 that looks to be the exact match at a much lower price to this one. I was really hoping to find a mimic of the Nemosine Singularity for an eyedropper.
What do you like about the Yiren 358? From pics it looks like another 78G mimic. I have a few Singularities, nib pretty good, design not so. For me best ED is one designed to be that like the Lecai - th-cam.com/video/YIoj4uGje5Q/w-d-xo.html

I like this pen but I had quite a bit of trouble with the EF nib and R&K Sepia. Even after running through the nib with a feeler gauge it still didn't write consistently. The fine nib worked alright but it was a little dry. I then swapped with my spare 698 nibs with the "hard nib" without a notch on the bottom of the nib and it writes much wetter now. The nib that came with both of them had a little notch at the bottom of the nib that looks to me is the difference between the soft and hard pilot style nibs. Don't really like the soft nibs as much.
Extremely good and insightful review. I personaly fell in love in both Wing Sungs - Lucky 2017 Edition wich is 698 and of course 2016 edition which is 659.

chrisrap52 FYI: Wing Sung (still trading as the Nationalized Xin Hua Fountain Pen Factory) acquired the pen-making facilities of the Dah Loh Fountain Pen Co in 1960, who owned the Lucky trademark, and they carried on using it. By the way "Dah Loh" means "Continental".
I have the Pilot 78G in Teal with a BB nib which is a nice writer, although it's a very petit pen. The recess in the end of the body is very small and clean on mine. I've never had much problem with my ink bottle caps sticking, including my Iroshizuku Murasaki-shikibu which I was using yesterday. But I always wipe the bottle and cap clean before putting back on. Still waiting on my Wing Sung 698, and if I'd known about this 659 I would probably have ordered one also. Some great values coming out of China.
Wing Sung also makes 3001A, which looks just like the 698. I know Wing Sung is a name that is licensed to different companies (hence the different numbering system) and I wonder how those two compare.

First, Wing Sung 3001A looks like Wing Sung 659, but it is cheaper than it. Wing Sung 698 looks like TWSBI 580，I guess you mixed it up. If you are in China, you can buy 3001A for 6.53 China Yuan, 659 for 29.8 China Yuan, 698 for 69.8 China Yuan, and all of it without postage. One dollar can be converted into seven yuan. Actually, only the nib of Wing Sung 659 and Wing Sung 3001A are Interchangeable. And the nib of 659 is better than 3001A. Wing Sung and Hero used to be competitors. They were both from Shanghai, but later Hero bought Wing Sung. Now in China, the Hero's pen is more like a gift, while the Wing Sung pen is more practical. By the way, Wing Sung(永生) means immortality in Chinese.
I am beetween the Jinhao 100 (with the ef nib option), three Jinhao 301, or the Wing Sung 659; I think I will go for the Wing Sung 659 because it comes with a f and an ef nibs, if neither of them have the inconsident flow insues such as the Jinhao x750 I have.
Does this wing Sung 659 converters fits with the Pilot Metropolitan Fountain Pen ?. I ask because I have two Pilot, but I do not like at all the aerometric converters. The diámeter of this WS converters looks very similar to the Pilot. Thank You

Tough call. Both have cracking issues, happened with pens sitting in a drawer. Biggest difference is nib, 659 is finer than 992. 992 is a little smoother than 659. I like the look, lines of the 992 more than 659. The 992 takes standard #5 nibs, 659 uses Pilot style. I would choose the 992. The 659 is no longer listed on US eBay, tons of 992s. Hope that helps,
I have the 659, which I ordered after getting (and loving) the 698, however I found that it consistently had a hard start issue that's caused by the cap not actually sealing and drying out. I was disappointed by this.
I have not had any drying out or hard starts with 659. Been using a few continuously for over a month, all as eye droppers. I do have ink starvation on some of my 698's. Have to extend piston to prime the feed.

Dear Chris, I just inked up my new Wing Sung 698 demonstrator, my first Chinese pen, after switching the EF for the F nib. I found the nib a bit ink-starved & scratchy. Any recommendations? Thank you for the very nice comparison of these pens!
Two suggestions. Nib smoothing to reduce scratchy. You can open up channel in feed to increase flow. Smooth nib first, might increase flow. I have examples of both in many of my videos.

Thanks. Sorry, don't review other types of pens. There are many fine line pens. I suggest starting with a Jinhao 992. See if you like it. Then maybe upgrade to an XF Pilot or TWSBI.
Not recommended. The clear one's cap finial broke. Fine nibs too fine for me. For an inexpensive better writer, I suggest the Jinhao 991 or 992. Great color section.
Hey, since you have all these pens, would you be able to see if you can screw the Pilot 78G grip section to the WingSung body? My clear Pilot 78G+ body got a crack in it :(
I have about 50 pens inked up, about 2% of my pens. I add/clean out about 5 a week. I enjoy having the exact pen I need ready to go. I enjoy picking up a pen I haven't used in a while & saying WOW this is a great writer. I enjoy looking at my pens sitting uninked in drawers. I enjoy discovering & sharing a new pen. There seems to be a lot of new pens.

Pilot Plumix, Penmanship, 78G, Metropolitan, Prera, and Kakuno all fit that pen. Nothing else pilot makes (as of july 2017) fits that pen.

Both of mine have closed ends, no plug, no hole. Since this review I have used the clear one as an eyedropper & no leaks. Can't explain your pen.

I've had a black EF 659 inked up for 2+ years, writes great.
I have decided for Wing Sung 659, the fact that it comes with two nib sizes I like, a roll cap, and your answer now, sold me into it.

From what I have, I'd say yes, converter will fit pilot. I swapped one from a 659 into a 78G.

IMHO the 3003 is a better pen in all aspects. I like the look & feel much better than the 659.

The Pilot 78 G cap finial is also screwed on. Pilot ads adhesive to theirs. I've taken mine apart to make a brushed matte black version.
Must look good after that.
It looks similar to the finish on the Lamy 2K.
I bought a few of these sets and replaced the nib, feed, and converter with Pilot stuff. You basically get a demonstrator 78G for less than $20 bucks

My suggestion, buy a 78G style pen like the 659 or 3001. Parts are interchangeable.
