    Katie's efficiency is out of this world. I love seeing her kick broken down!

    Thank you for showing the specificity of her kicking I am learning a lot. Cheers!

    If you watch closely, especially in the slow motion parts, it is obvious that the kick anchors on the pulling arm. The pulling arm is just entering the power phase of the stroke. You are strongest and get the most propulsion from about 45 degrees to 135 degrees in the 180 degree arc of the pull. When the arm and hand get to about the 45 degree mark, then the down/front side kick happens, then the recover arm enters the water.
    Of particular note with Katie, she swims gallop style. This is an off beat stroke, the breathing side arm extends and pauses a slight bit before it starts the pull followed quickly by the non breathing arm side follows. This is not the even beat stroke like you swim, or Ariarne Titmus swims. This method also involves a slight porpoise motion as she swims. Her head comes out a bit high, and then dives down in again. Pretty much all of the men swim this way in all distances except the 50 meter sprint. You should familiarize yourself with this variation of freestyle stroke.

      A personal challenge from me to you Mandy. I am sure you have swam 'catch up' style freestyle. I consider it an important drill for teaching body rotation, and learning the 2 beat kick. So, can you explain why the recover arm has absolutely no role in the body rotation when swimming catch up style? The pulling arm gives the leverage from the upper body for the body rotation. If you have another answer, I would like to hear it.

    But when you change from 2 to 4 kicks, does the pace and number of strokes increase?
    thank you

      Great question - depends. In her case she is upping her tempo when she increased to a 4bk. Her SPL may or may not have changed or only by a small fraction. Height, SPL, tempo dictate speed. The key is she conserved her energy to be able to ramp up her speed towards the end. hope this helps clarify! Best, Coach Mandy

    what’s a respectable time for mens 50 or 100 meter

      Thanks for reaching out! To give you the most accurate advice, could you provide a bit more context? Are you asking about respectable times for men's 50 or 100 meters in club competitive, collegiate, or triathlon settings? The standards can vary depending on the level of competition. Let me know, and I'll be happy to help!

    that's really interesting thank you. I noticed that all the other swimmers had more kick. Despite that she was averaging 1min/100m almost. As Master swimmers do we need anything more than a 2 beat kick?

    • @SWIMVICE
      @SWIMVICE  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You really don't! 😎 Swimming speed can vary with different kick rhythms: a two-beat kick is often preferred for middle and long distance events, a four-beat kick is commonly used towards the end of long or middle distance races, while a six-beat kick is typically reserved for short sprints. -
