I think Hip Hop done the right way is a mixture of sampling and live instrumentation, it gives it that gritty vibe and tone, while the live instrumentation adds depth and a more intimate feel. Put the two together and you've got what I call Hip Hop, in all its groovy, funky, jarring beauty.
haha then ski called over and asked could little Pete Pro come out to play but they decided to stay in because there was a big kid from 10th grade called Preem out looking for them, some guy called Shawn J. Period said they were biting his style but it wasn't true.
Love this beat, so so dope, is the drum break and sample from new birth? need to know its keeping me up digging in my collection as we speak RESPECT BRO!
With this type of setup how did you get the horn to do the variation in velocity like it would in 16 levels if it was sampled in the 2000xl ? You sample everything in the 950 right ? I have the Mpc 3000 and S3000 and want to have the same abilities when making beats.
71dhwand as far as I remember you can activate the 16 level velocity mode on the 2000xl and it affects the velocity in the 950..not sure if it works the same way with the mpc3000 and s3000 since I‘ve never used them
Hi brother, sorry, I got an akai s900 and I have a 2000xl mpc My question is how do I connect them? I am a beginner in the subject Do I have to record with the s900 and resample on the 2000xl?
hey my man i was wondering what your s950 is actually doing in the process of you making beats. are you just running your samples through it? or your output?
I sampled everything into the 950 and sequenced it with the 2000xl. this way I get all of the 12bit sound directly out of the 950 and don't need to resample everything into the 2000xl.. that's how I used to do it with this setup!
@Pen Umbra that's what he is doing. DJ Premier works the same way. His MPC (60) triggers / sequencing an S950. All you hear is in fact coming from Primo's S950. He mentioned liking the workflow. At least that was a few years back.
MPC (60-2000XL) is a great midi sequencer with sampling capabilities. I use my MPC to sample drums. Which is simple ish. I dont sample songs. But if I did, I wouldnt use my MPC. There are other samplers that are easier and faster. Most sampling-heavy producers I know do not use their MPC's for sampling. They usually have an ASR-10, S900/S950, SP1200, etc for that ish. They use their MPC as the main sequencer. This ish is pretty standard among a lot of legendary producers
Hello friend, great video, could you help me please? use mpc2000xl with an akai s1000 I can shoot the samples of s1000 in mpc but I want to shoot several ex: pad 1 kick pad 2 snare pad 3 hihta etc ... how do I? I can only shoot through the midi keyboard. thank you
U got em connect with midi? Also what is your opinion of the emu e/synth or e /4000.? I think you would be amazed by the filters.espesialy the 6pole low pass. I can seriously snag a perfect sounding bass line from the most chaotic piles of racket.Ide even go so far as to say the sound is on par with s950 once u lower the sample rate or if u feel fancy itll sample in 24bit. I was wanting a s950 but they got too expensive but magicly the emu just fell in to my lap it's the e/synth ( e4k with the rom crap and the worthless preset synth stuff.and it looks dope with the ol sp chillin on top of it. Btw I've been bumping a couple of those 12bit madness tracks u posted in the truck, hope u don't mind. I wish I could buy a couple of ur albums but I'm retarded and broke with 3 kids and the youngest is going thru surgery twice a year so no job just a house full of wild kids and a room full of records and samplers.. almost sold my sp1200 but just couldn't let go of it. ( sold the gay ass motif and asr10 instead).
Like a burger at Wendy's...you flipped dat. Nicely done, keep banging! Spirits from the 90's are jammin' off this right now.
3:11 -- Oh my god. He did the 16 levels Horn Stab.
S950/2000xl is they best combo ever. I actually prefer the 950 to the sp-12000 and the xl is a better sequencer then the 60, 3000 or og 2000.

I think those are straight eight notes.
Eighth-note hi-hats, dunn. Peace.
Dope beat man, love it! I'm hunting for a 2000xl at the moment
That Brian Auger’s Oblivion Express sample got me feeling some kind of way...had to dig deep in the crates for that one!!
Chad Kelham you know your samples!:)
I recently bought that lp without knowing what it was it just kinda called to me glad i picked it up its cheap and full of bangers
Very dope beat my man. Much props on doing hip hop the right way, sampling.
Peter Carpio thank you sir

There is no right way

Sick man. Just sick. I just bought an sp12 and I'm looking for an s950 right now. I miss boom bap:(
you are fuckin dope bro. I like that you use a lot of the sample tactics from early late 80s / early 90s Hiphop beatmaking.
this sounds like Pete rock and large professor had a kid, put it up for adoption and Lord finesse adopted it.
but for whatever reason he came out white.

My question is how do I connect them? I am a beginner in the subject
Do I have to record with the s900 and resample on the 2000xl?
u gonna trigger it via midi.

never got down to mix this beat so far, need to dig in my floppies and do it though!

thx!
are you triggering the samples on the s950 with the 2kxl? (how? :)
attilabeats yess..midi out from the 2kxl into the midi in on the 950. they both have to be on the same midi channel, in my case that‘s channel 1
@@Tapehead sure does my dude

nice work... quantized to 16th triplets?

LoPass Filter
How did you manage to get the original sample chops to cut each other off? I only ever use note off because mono can get kinda messy with the overlay.
Just set the pads to mute each other. Open window with mono/note off/poly selected. (this is how it works in the 2k classic at least"
Quick question man. How you get the 4 pads to mute? I'm limited to 3. Thanks
I like this beat. Holla at me!

@@ChiefRugged i asked if it was the drums. Not the actual break pattern
whats the drum break? haha, sounds looooud!
Xl = 16 Bit s950 =12 Bit
Dope! I'm looking for production. What's good?
What can the S950 do that the MPC by itself can't? just seems like an unnecessary step/expense to me.
the s950 has 12bit chips)
S950 gives it a grimey sound because of the low bit rate and filter
Analog filter....digital control, but analog
