of course, it should be marner to take less, not willy or auston...no, because the media decided they all hate mitch.
Mitch will have to leave his agent if he ever wanted to leave money on the table. He probably won't take less, but he's the one it would mean the most from as a gesture. He's local, he's in his prime and he could spend his whole career in TO. They wouldn't let him wear Gilmours #93, but signing an 8 year deal@ $9.3mil would be symbolic like Sid's 8.7 and, save the team some cap space and still put him over $100 mill for his career. Him and the wife could probably get by if they pinch some pennies.
They all should have taken less, they got deals pre-covid that paid them disproportionately higher than comparables. But they also get boned on taxes compared to a lot of states. So it's hard to expect them to give up even more.
JT in a way did 7 years ago. He had bigger offers in places with better tax rates. He's not worth it now, but at the time it was some tidy work nabbing a franchise centre and not giving up assets. He's not the reason for cap trouble but it'll be nice to have that $11mil come off the books.
Regardless of what they take, they arent built to win playoff hockey. This aint the group, unfortunately. And not for lack of skill of effort.

Nothing has truly changed with this team imo. Fear once again has held the leadership back from necessary change. Coach means nothing but a bump and maybe some more roughing minors. Unless berube is willing to keep Marner away from Matthew’s for 82+ games I don’t see a change in results coming.
Sid grew up in Cape Britain Nova Scotia, where many people live with not much money, and would view 8.7 million a crazy amount of cash. I think Sid knows he will live very well the rest of his life, and building his legacy as way more important.
FWIW Sid isn't from Cape Breton. He's from Cole Harbour, that's on the mainland 😊. The rest is bang on.

Robertson isn't going to be on the opening night roster...I just don't see it, if I'm wrong then great but he just not mature enough to play the game outside of shooting.
Prediction: Patch is on Nylanders wing with Marnie on the other side , Domi is up with Auston, Robertson gets minutes on the top line with Matthews & Domi, or Matthews & Marner on the PP. Robertson gets traded for a defender, or a “chunky” forward at the deadline. Bertuzzi being gone, gives Robbie the opportunity he needs. I can see a 3rd line Tavares/Knies/McMann, Reavo should be a staple 4th liner with Kampf/Jarny on the muck/defensive side.
So disingenuous about Marner, it started with Will getting a 1m more than he should have. The real crime was Matthews at 11.6 in Jan after Dubas told Mitch in December that he couldn't afford the 9m which is what Mitch initially asked for.

Do you boys not see a pattern of behavior with all the coaches they bring in over the years? Berube actually said that there core is more skilled then the Blues....lol. WHAT DO SUPERSTARS HAVE IN COMMON? All of them from years past always do something special in playoffs. They always man look like the best skaters on the ice.. These core players are nothing special come playoff time for the past 7 years.. Nylander is the only guy I feel seems to consistantly do something. But Marner and Matthews dont even look close to superstar statues when it counts. NHL lacks skill bc of salary cap....so it appears these guys are better then what they are man.
Robertson is going to be a 25-30 goal scorer with 50 points.
Maybe every player should sufffer a couple of concussions and sit out like Sid to appreciate playing. 2012 signs 12 years at 8.7 after possibly not maybe playing again
Crosby has been making 8.7 for the last 16 years the coming year will be 17 add the two-year extension he signed will bring it to 19 years at 8.7
