I have 2 parasoll devices connected to Home Assistant through ZHA using a Conbee II. Interview did hang once on the first device, now that u metioned it but it works great for me. It has one sensor: opening. (closed or opened). also it shows battery in diagnostic, Identify, LQI and RSSI. They havent failed on me since i own them.
For me, the sensor having AAA battery support is a deal breaker - that is, if it uses a button cell or something else horrible, it's out of the question. I think I'll pick up some of these Vallhorns. The fact that they're large isn't that important, and unlike the Thirdreality I already own that are much smaller, these do measure the light level also which opens up for some more creative automations.
They are extremely slow at responding by industry standards though. Even their range is something like 2m at best. Yeah, they are cheap but you get what you pay for.
I have Ikea Vallhorn working just fine in Home Assistant with ZHA. Had some trouble installing a few of them, but when I tried again the next day they were installed with all values. They work best with Ikeas rechargeble batteries (1,2 v). Added comment: My Vallhorn has firmware 1.57, Home Assistant Sky connect.
There is known issue with Vallhorn sensor when he start to send false motion trigger. After doing some research the solution is really fun - replace battery with rechargeable battery. I believe because of higher voltage of regular batteries it starts to produce noise. I spend few days in researching, hope will save someone’s time. Nevertheless sensors working great, and illumination values working great for me.
I bought these for fun. IKEA is about 20 minutes away, and I don't wanna buy items from Chinese companies, so this lined up. I didn't expect much, but it's cool that some of these work at all.
Just found two Vallhorn at my Charlotte NC, USA store. Can't beat the 8.99 price. Added readily to HA ZHA this morning with Lux, Occupancy and an Opening Entites. Lux Sensor working as expected.
The Parasoll sensors I had initially paired with a Third Reality Smart bridge for me and worked great as a Matter device. I tried this weekend to pair a few new ones wtih ZHA and started seeing the same results with compatibility with ZHA. I guess I will keep them as a Matter device.

Do you have any tutorial on home asistant for someone who wants to start and wants to understand limitations and what does home assistant give you vs the built in Ikea Home?
I use skyconnect and i could adopt all of the sensors into ZHA, both Parasoll and Vallhorn, although im not using 1.2v batteries both types work as expected in my Home assistant, opens and closes, shows brightness, Vallhorn does give false positives currently but i suspect that is caused by the wrong battery voltage. The door sensor works as expected for me, got two of them and have not seen anything wrong with them yet.
That's really strange... Check this. Same issue -community.home-assistant.io/t/ikea-parasoll-vallhorn-devices-not-working-zha/668852 but again this was tested with SkyConnect with the latest firmware.
I can confirm Vallhorn working great with ZHA and Sonoff Dongle-E on HA Blue with all the latest versions installed as of today. Zero problem. Rundning with IKEA Ladda batteriets.
While it needed multiple run for the motion sensor I could connect the motion and the door sensor to ZHA with sonoff zigbee stick-P. The motion sensor drops some times from the zigbee, but I think it is because my network and not the sensor. The door sensor is really nice. Small and AAA battery use is nice.
Glad it's working for you. Did you check signal strength on motion sensor? Maybe that's the issue. Maybe try to add the via other router on the network.
Just wanted to mention with the parasoll I experienced a similar issue with the process hanging trying to add the device to ZHA. I think what was said about routers possibly being the problem may be true as when I was trying to pair them, I was in a different room to the Skyconnect and the closest router was a smart plug. The plug is allegedly 3.0 but it's a cheap aliexpress plug so not sure if there is any truth in that or not. What I can say is I tried multiple times with different parasolls and if I was closer to a router rather than the Skyconnect, the sensors would not pair up. The second I went in the room with the Skyconnect and retried the process it got paired up straight away, no issue at all. So I would suggest pairing up with the device close to the Zigbee coordinator. I have since move my 4 parasolls to different areas of the house and they are all working very well and are responsive. Looking at the ZHA network map only one of them is currently connected directly to the Skyconnect, the other 3 are all connected via the same smart plug it was probably struggling to pair through and they are working absolutely fine, so you should be fine to pair with coordinator and then move them to wherever they need to go and they should be able to figure out the routing. Originally I had two of them reporting 0% battery level even though I knew they definitely weren't as it was a brand new set of batteries, but they are now displaying the correct level so if anyone is having that issue, just be patient and it might correct itself.
Thank you for explanation! I tried on network where there are no routers - just SkyConnect and same issue. About battery, I've mentioned that - it can take some time for battery te bo reported. It's considered normal for battery state to be updated after some time, up to 24hrs.
I believe that may be (one) of the problems. I tried connecting directly to ZHA via SkyConnect, without any router on the network, and that also didn't work. But, again, this could be by design issue that doesn't allow that too :)

The VALLHORN is working fine for me with Z2M, including luminance. But my PARASOLL is a mess, it sometimes doesn't detect at all (the light on the device doesn't turn on) or the ZigBee message is not received by the coordinator (light turns on, but no state change in Z2M). Both use the same grey LADDA batteries. Using a SONOFF P stick and have an ASKVADER switch that can act as a router.
If the lights aren't coming on it sounds more like a hardware issue. Rechargeable batteries only have 1.2 volts. It is much better to use Alkaline batteries that have 1.5 volts. Some devices won't even work with rechargeable batteries because you lose 0.3 volts on every battery you have, so if the device use 3 batteries you will lose almost 1 volt. @@SmithyScotland woops 😂
@@SmithyScotlandIt used to be villages and place but now it's all kinds of Swedish words. VALLHORN is like a trumpet for getting the livestock home in the evening and PARASOLL is what you think it is ⛱️
Rechargeable batteries only have 1.2 volts. It is much better to use Alkaline batteries that have 1.5 volts. Some devices won't even work with rechargeable batteries because you lose 0.3 volts on every battery you have, so if the device use 3 batteries you will lose almost 1 volt.
IKEA's batteries are also crap. Both Alkaline and rechargeable, but those are cheap.
You are generally right. Unless, devices are specifically designed for rechargeable batteries, like these, and like these have warning to use rechargeable 1.2V batteries explicitly stated in manual.
Also, aren't those batteries produced in Japan by same factory that's making Panasonic and few others?
@@BeardedTinker For 20 years ago we used IKEA's Alkaline and they were cheap and they last for 6 months. Panasonic/Duracell batteries lasted for 2 years in the exact same devices. We used them in clocks in a school. So, you could buy cheap batteries and replace them after 6 months or buy more expensive ones and replace them every 2 years.
@@fu1r4 The Ikea LADDA batteries, the 2450 and 750 mah ones, are high end Japan made batteries that have a lot of reviews out there. They are the real deal and there's not much out there that is better than them even at higher prices.
Got connected Vallhorn to HA zha easily. Works great. Still we don't have Parasoll in local Ikea, but waiting
There were some updates in both ZHA and Z2M as far as IKEA devices are concerned and now all should work really nicely.
