I definitely would say this game is up there with the greats like Subnautica, Ark, and Grounded. It's easily one of my favorite games to play. I've seen alot of games rush development and updates and it never turns out well, but I'm glad Iron Gate is taking there time to give us quality content. I will gladly wait for however long it takes to get out a solid update that I can cherish and enjoy. I'm used to waiting anyway, I play Team Fortress 2. Thanks for this absolute master piece of a game Iron Gate!

forget the biomes, add more interesting dungeons, npcs, improve the biomes add summon villages etc ai character to enemies, 7 days to die level raids on castles, horses, castles villages animals, etc non-biome areas would be nice, ark survival islands with building with teleport back to core biomes ez roll in the millions, you get to play skryim, but on an actual scale.
but as long as you dont pull a g lucas

@@AndrewSullivan-d3x Hildir was a pretty good npc. she has a small amount of lore but good quests that lead you to epic dungeons and mini bosses, you get some cool rewards for completing them too. Technically the Dvergr are character npcs that will retaliate against the player if you harm them. The Dvergr npcs cannot be interacted with but they will speak to the player. I do think the whole Ark Survival Evolved biome portal room idea from the Fjordur map would be cool but it probably wouldn't be a good fit for the Valheim map since it is procedurally generated. There are multiple biomes of the same kind in different areas of the map but a portal room could work for the Ashlands and the Deep North since they are always in the same spot, maybe they could be the only portals that can transport metal. I do think the giant raids idea would be cool, maybe it could be optional but you get good rewards from the difficulty.

I would be really ok with boar or wolf meet being useful later on, but not neck or deer. It would be tedious and retrograde to HAVE to go back and do meadows stuff like that. Stuff that's farmable...that's progress.
It's like needing leather scraps or deer hide late game. Go smash a goblin village. Same for fine wood...chop it down in the plains rather than hunt trees in the meadows.

I think if they do cross usage it might be handy to have it as converting to a higher tier resource with a structure you make in Ashlands. Like converting it into a charred meat (that would normally come from a charred Ashlands beast) for Ashlands recipes so it stays relevant but you aren't hard required to go back to make the stuff again.

We need an ocean update! Draugr ships! Larger and more dangerous ocean monsters. Sunken ruins! Plus, wouldn't it be great to have more ship variety and the ability to row? Imagine if in the ocean you're caught out in a storm. You have to drop your sail or risk destroying your vessel. Your teammates then must row to safety or until the storm passes.

A trader ship that’s anchored where you can trade would be great.
They’ve already introduced magic so they can get away with adding a modified longboat with something to make it faster.
Rowing for passengers vessels would make sailing against wind better.

For some, it can be an exaggeration, but for me, Valheim is one of the best games ever made. Since its release, I've been constantly drawn back to it no matter the time, place, platform etc. This game like no other can give you the ultimate feel of exploration, crafting and building something of your own. I know for sure that everyone could agree that it's truly special when after a few years you're loading your first-ever created world, tracing your first steps, entering your first base on which you spend countless hours to build and re-build, just to feel the same excitement once again. Huge thanks to the Iron Gate team, the creators of arguably the best indie game ever.

    Well, here's a suggestion:
Try to add something new to the starting biomes in every major update.
The reason: I think it worths the player's while to start a new character just to check that out, but the player who's advanced full stacked in mistlands gear, this guy can just take the portal labeled 'spawn' (everyone has one) and look at that new stuff.
But for players who have played Valheim enough and uninstalled it, that guy won't even reinstall the game. He will most likely think "I'll have to play the entire gameloop, meadows, black forest, swamp, mountains, plains, mistlands, now ashlands, that's just way too much grind just to see new content" this guy may reach the conclusion that he's better off just watching some streams.
Yes, there is the cloud-saved characters, but who will remember that, just addicted nutcases that knows every corner of the game like me, the avg player will just 'nah twitch dot com, come here'...
But if there's a new mob in the meadows, let's say a raccoon or a ferret that doesn't stay in it's spawn area, but wanders around the entire meadows and, when comes across player's base, will steal his food or something, that would be a good reason for that guy to reinstall the game and now that he has it installed, wtf... I'll just progress, why not...?
    - See what I mean...?
If you keep inserting these smaller additions to the meadows and black forest, will not just make for a richer early game, but also a good way to call back the casual player with the advertise of 'there's cool new stuff in the early biomes you may want to hop in the game to experience yourself'.

    CLASSES:
    1. More immersion.
    2. Multiple different playthroughs of the same game.
    3. Encourages playing with friends.
    4. Class specific specialties. (Ex: Rogue lock pick, warrior strength moving heavy objects, mage telekinesis, etc...)
    5. Makes players feel important/useful/unique.
    6. Makes players think and make decisions.
I know personally I would really like to see more options rather than everyone using the same things because those things do the most damage...
Using a bow is practically required...
Sneak becomes completely obsolete after trolls... It's way too slow even at max, has positional requirements, uses way too much stamina, and is almost impossible to restealth meaning it's only useful for the very first hit you make... Increased skill should mean more speed and slightly stronger stealth on top of the reduced stamina usage...

How long it’s been since mistlands? 7 months? The people are starting to forget about this game and most of them won’t comeback just because of 1 biome. In my opinion they need either to increase the state of devs who could’ve help them with updates or cut the content so we could’ve have more small updates. I think the issue right now in general with valheim is once you burn a biome you no longer have a reason to go back, most players stablish their first base near the meadows so we return there as we explore the others and exploit resources... but there is nothing for players after going to a biome, maybe if doing things in later biomes would somehow affect the first ones, giving us reasons to go back, it would be way better. like, lets use what we already have, from new tools to use in the newer biomes. can also exploit and find new resources in the early ones, enemies from other areas now invading what seemed to be peaceful areas even merging and geting us to new enemies as we destroy the boss of each one.

    • @munguschungus4030
      @munguschungus4030 ปีที่แล้ว

Animals and plants/crops are what keeps me in a biome. Farming in general necessitates you going to different biomes for food and ingredients. Never really had the same problem as you sans the swamplands which serve no economic purpose once you move on from iron except for aesthetic building.

Mistlands is very different from the rest of Valheim, but a huge success in my opinion. I hope Ashlands is like that. More skellies? I'm skeptical. There needs to be something that fictionally explains why these skellies are different than the ones we know. Do we break out the silver weaps again?

Valheim has done nothing but earn my trust in how its been handled so far. If the devs end up cutting something thats been shown, I trust theres a good reason for it. Ive personally kept myself relatively in the dark on this update because pushing into the mistlands blind was one of the wildest experiences Ive had returning to a game. I very much look forward to the ashlands, mostly because while the mistlands was so beautiful despite the fog man it SUCKED to travel in, so a much flatter more relaxed terrain will be a nice change. Though I doubt it will be any easier to handle.

I really like the magic part of the game. Arcane, necro, fire, frost magic and even nature as a healing (i know this is not included in the game) aspect would be great if it appeared much earlier in the game. The use of mana could be rethought a little, it could even be made simply from stamina, since it also works with the energy of our body. That way, you don't need special food, and you don't need to wait too long for it to become available as a kind of game style. I think the scaling of magic should also be rethought, because when it appears in the game, it is practically useless until the player is able to craft the best clothing and food for it. It was a big disappointment that after several weeks or even several months of playing, I could only enjoy the most exciting aspect of the game for a few days, because I simply completed the game and didn't feel like playing anymore just because I can cast spells. Ironic but lost it's charm hehe. by the way, it would be great if simple combat tools could be mixed with magical elements. For example, Shield + Surtling core = set the enemy on fire on a successfully blocked attack. Or with each hit with a weapon, there is a chance to set him on fire, freeze him (slow him down), or even poison him. The necromagic weapon is also very difficult to use. We need to build a afk farm platform, to increase weapon specialization (not a real viking things). I think it's a very strange and stupid solution, I'd be curious to know what percentage of people actually use the weapon. I wouldn't be surprised if we got a very low number. Still, a lot of energy and man-hours are put into the necro weapon. I think if the game is made a little easier, it could be a great option for a lot more people. Most of us are already working adults with much less time to spend playing. I don't know what would be a good solution, but I would really enjoy it, on the one hand, if magic was available much earlier, and you could somehow strengthen traditional weapons with magical elements. Also, it would be great if you didn't have to download a thousand different mods for the game to increase or decrease the amount of raw materials, to be able to use portals with metals (although I think it's already included by default, I haven't logged in for a long time), can planting mushrooms and fruits, because now we need to build farm portal system (-.-) or to add another movement animation get the characters, because this current one really failed. I would support a developer-approved menu, even in-game, where you can browse through the various modifiers and addons, which, even if agreed with the developers in advance, the modders can update everyone to a compatible version on the day of the updates with the push of a button.

I hope in the future, we get stronger two handed axes, along with lower tier great swords.
The more different "normal" weapons through the gameplay would allow people explore for weapons they like more, and get familiar more quickly to the pros and cons of the weapon types. Should still have unique weapons for sure, but the more "normal" weapons there are, the more unique and awesome it'll feel when you get those weapons, or gear

    • @Elite02k

More magic varieties at lower tier ages. There's no reason they couldn't introduce a basic bo staff or walking stick and some forest/swamp/plains magic access items. Could even be simple such as a finewood wand or staff, tomes or even something like bracelets since we have jewelry items like amber rubies and pearls. If you are like me, you grind every crypt until you get dverger circlet weight belt and fishing rod, then coins and syllables become almost useless unless you buy iron pits from hildir, ymir flesh for frostner/iron sledge.

    • @ahealthkit2745
      @ahealthkit2745 ปีที่แล้ว

@@Elite02k Personally, I like the idea of magic being gated behind progression. The more "layers" and accessibility there are to that system, the less rewarding it feels to find later on in the game. I think it's quite difficult to find a blend of unique and complex but fitting and not overcomplicated, so I imagine that with each biome, there's an added complexity to the game to some degree. If it's like minecraft and all you get in a new zone is the new equvilant to iron or something, it really degrades the fun of finding these new areas and progressing through the game.

The biomes in Valheim, in my opinion, are unmatched. Every biome has it's own aura or feeling to it and I ADORE IT. It feels so so good to go into a new biome in Valheim, it really does. It almost gives me a sense of wonder and makes me want to explore and build in different styles in every biome.
I remember when I first bought the game and I was destroying all the mobs in the meadows thinking I basically had the whole game figured out and that it was going to be super easy. I walked to the edge of the sprawling meadows intrigued by tall pines trees I hadn't seen before surrounded by an eerie fog. There was a stone structure tucked into the tree line and that's when an arrow came flying out of the woods and I saw my first skeletons. I had dodged all of the attacks and was doing decent damage then I got hit by a one star which removed almost half of my HP with one swoop of his sword. That is when I realized maybe there are true threats in this game and I do need to gear up to explore. I still remember the awesome feeling I got seeing them and my first glance at the new biome for the first time. I literally fell in love with the game in that exact moment. I had many many more amazing experiences and discoveries in that first playthrough. Especially my first trek through the swamp, my god what a dreadfully beautiful biome. It gave me chills walking through it the first few times. My only gripe in the entire game is that I cannot remove runestones from what would otherwise be amazing building locations.
I cannot praise them enough on how unique, challenging, and beautiful the biomes are in this game. One of the reasons I think they feel so good is because all of the mobs and resources fit the theme of the biome so well making theme feel different from each other and not just a reskin. I now have close to 1500+ hrs on Valheim and I have enjoyed every second of it. Thank you IronGate for this masterpiece of a game you all have created!

Hey Irongate! I'm very thankful for Valheim as it's a game all of our friend group gets around each update. Each time there's a new big update we start a new world and it's a couple weeks of the best gaming experience I have ever had. Thankyou for that.
I just wanted to mention some things I'd love to see implemented:
1- Replayability is my number one issue with Valheim. Outside of new releases and starting a new world, I never have any reason to keep playing on the worlds we spent dozens of hours developing once the bosses are defeated. I'd love to spend time in the world working towards challenges/upgrades/progressing past just the story and survival.
2- Unique gameplay experiences. Before Mist Lands, all the biomes followed the exact same structure just reskinned, go find new biome thats hard, get new resources, kill the boss and repeat in next one. I LOVED mist lands for the change of pace it gave!

Thanks for the update, but two things: 6:28 You said you're going back to Mistlands progression here. Lots of people hate the progression in Mistlands, it's one of the most voiced complaints about Mistlands on the Valheim subreddit. People didn't enjoy spending dozens of hours finding and clearing multiple infested mines before you can even glimpse the new armor. Secondly, please don't add fog or ash or whatever to the biome that'll make it hard to see. The mist was a cool idea, but again it's one of the most disliked features of it because it just makes for awful gameplay. We want to see the biomes.

450 hours here. Just want to say thank you for the incredible game that you've made for us to enjoy. Your development cycle is just fine, in an age of broken and unfinished games being released, it's refreshing to get a developer who cares about how the game releases (not that the other devs dont care, but rather corporatism forces the product out in the early stages)
Sharing information is very much a double edged sword. There is a quality to the mystery around updates other than "We're working on it", and to keep the game filled with life its often found to be good to share information. I feel like the current method is a bit much in terms of the information, but I enjoy every lick of content you create, so I may be biased here. Perhaps just some concept art, general ideas, and that's it going forward? I started playing a year before mistlands, and ultimately finished my first play through and created a new one to discover the mistlands. I plan to do the same with Ashlands, and love it. The information has helped keep me motivated playing your game!
I would like to offer constructive criticism though. I, as a player who enjoys optimization of his gameplay, have learned that there could be some balance tweaks that would make the game a bit more rewarding for the tedious grind you mentioned.
The non-metal armors are a bit strong comparatively. For example - Troll Armor will get you through Bonemass no problem, and is easily accessible from a very early stage of progression. (I think I have at least some pieces before entering BF in most playthroughs) The root harnesk, once acquired in the swamp, is the most viable piece of armor in the game through mistlands (although I'm sure the fire damage in Ashlands will put an end to it's dominance).
My proposal here is to nerf the armor value of the Troll armor a bit to 6 instead of 8 per piece, thus further distinctifying itself from Bronze Armor, making Bronze armor more valuable in the swamp.
Also nerfing the Root Harnesk from 50% to 30% pierce reduction, this will make it much less viable in the Plains, and almost unviable in the Mistlands.
Fenring Armor is finely balanced IMO. It's the true "skill" armor if you call it that, offering little protection but a significant boost to speed for dodging.
Currently, the most optimized build through mistlands for melee is Highest tier helm, root harnesk, highest tier pants, feather fall cape or wolf cape for snow, and the best buckler available.
This leads me to the next point - shields
Tower shields largely don't offer any reason to pick them (aside from the serpent shield, but even then a buckler is almost always better) and parry bonus isn't really something most people take into account, just the ability to parry since CC is so strong.
My solution: Give tower shields a shield bash to momentarily stun enemies. No bonus damage, just a short stun or stagger.
The final thing I want to bring up is for the builders: It would be so cool and nice to get a vertical rotation in addition to the horizontal rotations. We don't necessarily need Gizmo (Although that would be a great addition for the builders) but giving us the ability to rotate vertically and horizontally will eliminate a few pieces from the build menu, helping to clean it up a bit (not that it needs it) and prepare for more build pieces introduced later on in Ashlands, Deep North, and any planned DLC.
I want to end this ludicrously long message with a question: What thoughts do you have towards monetization for long term operation of the game and servers? The game is largely successful now, having sold tons of copies in EA, and assuming there will be another uptick with Ashlands and Deep North, as well as final release. I have no suggestions, but am curious if you're planning on selling texture packs for build pieces, cosmetic wearables (that have no combat benefit), or other plans

The swamp to mountains transition is better than meadows to black forest imo. The mountains are such a mystery early on because you can’t even really run in and run out before frost resist, and you can still get in well before beating bonemass. It doesn’t take away player agency but at the same time keeps the mystery of the new biome.

I'd love to see more astral stuff like a real dig into the mythology and maybe even some lore building for the game, that and a non merchant npc(s) that maybe add new rpg elements are the top things I wanna see. re-introducing the bird that dropped you off, somehow giving it some meaning or purpose in the game other than to drop you off would be super cool too!

Having an open communication is always great. Those people that are passionate about the game and want to help improve the game that is very helpful. Those that are passionate about the game but dont want spoilers wil avoid them for sure and have a certain trust in the developers and their community members to make it a game worth playing. Keep up the good work ♥
