    I wish my macrophyllas looked like this. I just can't pull the trigger on the secateurs to cut them back that hard. I rarely get new growth from the ground, sometimes from the lowest points though, so that was encouraging. I only have maybe 8 stems, so it's tough to cut. They are anything but straight. I'll do a bit more of a prune now though....Thanks again. This is a keeper.

    Great video. I watch lots of videos on pruning hydrangeas. They have to be one of my top 3 plants. This video gave me yet another gem of info. I understood that leaving the Annabelle type (I have Incrediballs) stems longer made the stems stronger. 🥴

    Another great vid. Does it matter if they are planted in full sun in the UK. I have been told they will be better in part shade but would like a second option please 🙏

      They are fine in full sun as long as the soil doesn’t dry out too much in summer. In dapple shade soil holds on to moisture longer - thanks for watching your support is appreciated! Martin, Jill & Sean

      I am in N. Lincs and mine did not do well in the full sun. I keep mine in part shade and have no problems with them.

    So it appears that you only do pruning in the spring? Don't prune at all in the fall?

    • @PotsTrowels
      @PotsTrowels  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That’s right, all the pruning is done in spring just before new growth starts. Martin

    how to take cuttings from hydrangea

    • @PotsTrowels
      @PotsTrowels  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Normally they are taken from new non flowering shoots in summer, between June & Aug. I take cuttings around 2-3 inches (5-7.5cm) long, trimmed below a bud and the lower leaves removed. Insert into small pots and keep moist. We’ll do a video in summer as well. Martin
