I love the way Joe produces, he's so entertaining, charismatic, witty. Even though the main theme of the video is not all that interesting to me, listening to it makes me want to watch the video
Haha before you even showed that pic, i knew it was gonna be Mega Man by the way you described it 😂 the Nerd went into full detail! Haha i hope he never watches this episode, it'll give him PTSD! 🤣
A lot of people seem to not know this, but the first game to have the Konami code was Gradius, which was released in April 1985 on the Famicom in Japan and December 1986 on the NES in North America; Gradius had only been around for 3 months when Contra was released, and it not as well known or popular to the average gamer as Contra was, so Contra ended up being the game that popularized the Konami code. In later Konami games, including Gradius 3, the Konami code was actually a troll and either didn’t do anything, changed some text to mock you for trying to use a cheat code, or caused you to die/get a game over. Another fun fact is that the code was put in the game during development to give the player full power-ups at the beginning of the game, and it was supposed to have been taken out before release, but the person who created the code forgot to remove it; thus it stayed in the game.
Getting that MegaMan EADBFC right in my brain made me so happy. Difficult games but my favorite franchise. I'd be remissed if I didn't have that correct. Also the swirling clues are deceptive. For instance, excitebike does have green on the cover, but the swirl does. Just sayng
23:35 I'm that nerd thats learning how to make NES games in 6502 Assembly, and it is VERY tempting to make a game called Num Num Ned in the Land of the Nummy Nums.
I can't believe you included Panic Restaurant without mentioning how crazy expensive it is. Complete copies of that game sell for $2,000. For old NES collectors, it's a holy grail of a game to get in your collection.
As a first year millennial, not only did I get all of these correct, I have played every single one of them! These must be ultra young end millennials.
Clarification on the Konami code; it originated from the side scrolling space shooter Gradius when the programmer converting the arcade version to the NES found it too hard to play so he put in a cheat for max power ups but forgot to remove the code before submitting it. Contra's just what made it popular.
When I saw the double dragon commercial, I thought it was a real commercial and I was mind blown that Joe was in a video game commercial but then I saw it was a video he and his friend made haha. Still pretty cool though
About Wild Gunman game, they DID advertise it in the 2nd Back to the future movie. XD Remember 2 little boys that wanted to play a video game and said " Ewww, you use your hands to play? Boring." or something like that and the Marty McFly (a.k.a. Michael J. Fox) started playing the game for a little bit? The cover art should have given it right away that the correct answer was A. :)
Before they even showed the box art they were like "This next one is going to be one of the worst box art for representing the game"... and I knew it before they even showed the box art... lol
Xexyz!!!!!!!!!! I can't believe y'all had someone that actually played this game. I had this as a kid growing up and loved to play it from time to time.
With Round 2, once the main character appeared, then I was like, "Oh, oh, oh, oh. I know now!" Funny thing is, I've never played any of the Metroid games, I just know what the main character looks like.
Fun fact: the voice of Mario in the old show, is the same voice actor as the ball on the Sunny and Cher show, Eeyore, and of course his most famous role, Optimus Prime, Peter Cullen.
Dude, Excite bike is not simple. It's one of the most complicated early racing game. it has two speed, engine can overheat. You can do wheelie, you have "physic" landing and you can sabotage your opponent by swiping their front tires with your back tires. It has so many things going on.
Gen Z here, even though I don't play video games like that, but some of my favorites are Sonic The Hedgehog, Mortal Kombat, Mario Kart, God Of War, to name a few, I have older brothers and me and my little brother used to watch them play video games growing up, I also used to own a gameboy and Nintendo DS 😊😊
I can thank Back To The Future II for me knowing Round 21… cause Marty was a “Crack Shot”, and Elijah Wood complained that you had to use your hands, and his buddy called it a baby’s toy
Xexyz one was hard that I only got right by process of elimination. Xenophobe was totally different type of game, and I remember Xevious being on one of those Namco joysticks you could plug into your television. Never played Xexyz but it looks cool.
This was such a fun video and when it came to the video game mashups, I thought the first and third were really easy, but I had NO idea what the second one was lol
27:30 I loved the arcade version of Bump n' Jump. I would play for hours. I also had Superspike V-Ball and Super Dodge Ball. Loved blasting my opponents.
To the show host, Contra is not where the Konami code originated. That would be Gradius on the NES, where doing the code while the game is paused would fully power up your spacecraft, the Vic Viper.
I dunno if you guys just have a wardrobe of stuff for people to wear, or if Brittany actually owns a MegaMan 8 sweat shirt, but if that's actually hers......how can I ask her out?🤔 I always love Brittany in stuff in general, and MegaMan is one of my favorite franchises EVER, and MegaMan 8 is my favorite MegaMan Classic series game. lol What a glorious combo. Also proud of her for guessing my weird old buddy, Bad Box Art MegaMan. I was like "Girl, you HAVE TO get this. The guy is on your shirt." And she did! 😂 (I've had the intro stage (above ground) music, the FrostMan music, "I'm ClownMan", the opening cutscene, and images of the fight with TenguMan just echoing around in my head for like 25 years. MM8 is STILL the pinnacle of the Classic series. Seriously. Go look up those two tunes. - 'Opening Stage (Above Ground) - Mega Man 8 [OST]' - 'Frost Man Megaman 8 Music Extended [Music OST][Original Soundtrack]')
I love the way Joe produces, he's so entertaining, charismatic, witty. Even though the main theme of the video is not all that interesting to me, listening to it makes me want to watch the video
That Double Dragon "commercial" was something else! 🤣🤣🤣
I can tell that Jay has never played a retro NES game a day in his life
Granted that was now 40 years ago pretty much. Can't much blame many of them
Man never had a Duff in his life.
@@CrazeeAdamno excuse i’, 19 and I’ve played several (my mom owns One)
The River City Ransom comment Joe! That game is so much fun.
YOOOO sneaky little “Barats and Bereta, Barats and Bereta -ding-“ reference! Shout out to old TH-cam and young Joe. Kick ass
Interesting game. Millennials are old enough to know the games but just young enough to possibly not have seen the original box art.
Haha before you even showed that pic, i knew it was gonna be Mega Man by the way you described it 😂 the Nerd went into full detail! Haha i hope he never watches this episode, it'll give him PTSD! 🤣
Here I am, technically a Millennial, but they made me feel like I'm GenX today...That's what you get by being on the edge of a generation.
21:15 ahem, you forget about the 1971 classic Dracula vs Frankenstein 🤓
Getting that MegaMan EADBFC right in my brain made me so happy. Difficult games but my favorite franchise. I'd be remissed if I didn't have that correct. Also the swirling clues are deceptive. For instance, excitebike does have green on the cover, but the swirl does. Just sayng
The physics of Raccoon Mario's tail just mystifys me. Just how does that dang tail keep Mario up in the air?? It just makes no dang sense! 😂
I 100% knew the Megaman box art was gonna be on here and burst out laughing when it showed up.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles on NES was the kids and my favorite. That sewer jump was a pita though.
23:35 I'm that nerd thats learning how to make NES games in 6502 Assembly, and it is VERY tempting to make a game called Num Num Ned in the Land of the Nummy Nums.
OMG the callback for Joe and Barats and Bereta!!! lol
I can't believe you included Panic Restaurant without mentioning how crazy expensive it is. Complete copies of that game sell for $2,000. For old NES collectors, it's a holy grail of a game to get in your collection.
Wild Gunman was in the future scene on Back to The Future 2
I was never a gamer because I was just horrible at it but this was so nostalgic because I always watched my brother play these games.
Wild Gunman looked familiar because that’s what Marty plays in the diner in Back to The Future 2.
I love the Mega Man series, and go back to play them frequently, but my favorite overall NES game is probably Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!!
I’m glad Doc exists😂😂 beautiful man he is!
😊true story 😅
Whenever Ducktales is mentioned, I need someone to 🎵whoo hoo!🎵😂😂
"Hey, baby, wanna get Double Dragon'd" is going to be stuck in my head FOREVER. 😂😂😂😂
4:04 Dude sounded like Toad fr!
I heard that too!! 😂😂😂
Excite bike was so lo-res but so cool.
As a first year millennial, not only did I get all of these correct, I have played every single one of them! These must be ultra young end millennials.
I love Brittany's shirt. Love Megaman.
Tip on Roger Rabbit, in the password screen, you can just put all sorts of passwords in and so many will bring up different times in the game
The Bubble Bobble theme is **chefs kiss**
Clarification on the Konami code; it originated from the side scrolling space shooter Gradius when the programmer converting the arcade version to the NES found it too hard to play so he put in a cheat for max power ups but forgot to remove the code before submitting it. Contra's just what made it popular.
I was 11 when the NES hit the US. I have played a ton of the titles for the system and so many are still fun as hell.
Now we know Joe's a nerd freak but in a awesome way
Keep it real Joe Keep it real Dude.
By Far one of the Best Segment Producers of REACT
Thanks AVGN and Game Grumps for letting me know nearly all of these
indeed, I too shall say thanks to AVGN as well...
When I saw the double dragon commercial, I thought it was a real commercial and I was mind blown that Joe was in a video game commercial but then I saw it was a video he and his friend made haha. Still pretty cool though
The bonus was unbelievable !!! 🤣🤣🤣
Played a lot of these in the arcade. Contra took a lot of quarters.
that double dragon commercial is AMAZING!!
Only one person put ms pacman, everyone else put Mrs, they were not a couple at this point.
Excite Bike was amazing because you could build crazy tracks for your family/friends to play! SO much fun!
Before they even showed the box art they were like "This next one is going to be one of the worst box art for representing the game"... and I knew it before they even showed the box art... lol
When they picked Castlevania for round 14 I would have done a spit take if I had been drinking. My guys! He had a WHIP not a sword! Lmao
Bubbles and dragons? Obviously bubble bobble
We need more characters that say “yasss” in games.
And I miss Bubble Bobble and Double Bubble too! So fun!
This episode is bringing up some nostalgia and it's giving me a case of the feels lol
Should do a react to old video game movies and include the Double Dragon movie.
Fun fact, Wild Gunman was featured in Back to The Future Part II. It was the game Marty plays in Cafe 80’s.
Too funny great episode them civers at the end priceless 😂
One of my favorite NES games was Jackal. My brother and I would play this for hours. We would also play Tecmo Bowl too much.
Bubble bobble was such a fun game
Oh man........Joe's face at the end :)
I love this series.. megaman was a good laugh for me
Hope for another video like this would eventually please 🤞
Where did you get that Mega Man sweater Brittnay? I want it!
Xexyz!!!!!!!!!!
I can't believe y'all had someone that actually played this game.
I had this as a kid growing up and loved to play it from time to time.
Loved seeing super dodge ball get a mention. Absolutely loved that game when I was a kid.
Bit brigade does an entire playthrough of the ducktales game (one member plays a speedrun of the game) while the band plays the soundtrack live.
World needs more Barats And Bereta content.
The Mother’s Day card will always be the best video they ever made.
@@fredloftonabNow I need to see it.. so I can have nightmares..
With Round 2, once the main character appeared, then I was like, "Oh, oh, oh, oh. I know now!" Funny thing is, I've never played any of the Metroid games, I just know what the main character looks like.
Not Ashleigh referencing "you sneaky mom" 😂 21:21
Thanks to Travis' shirt, I am having pizza for dinner lol
"HEY BABE, YOU WANNA GET DOUBLE DRAGONED" 😂 . 👍🏼
Can’t even lie…I laughed so hard at Rodger Rabbit 😂😂
Fun fact: the voice of Mario in the old show, is the same voice actor as the ball on the Sunny and Cher show, Eeyore, and of course his most famous role, Optimus Prime, Peter Cullen.
I only know Panic Restaurant from Game Grumps. They played a couple of years ago. It's a good game.
Love this video!
Baby Joe!!!😅😅 (I knew they would recognize him lol)
Ducktales Remaster on PS3 also had one hell of a rewamp on all game music, including Moon-level.
Dude, Excite bike is not simple. It's one of the most complicated early racing game. it has two speed, engine can overheat. You can do wheelie, you have "physic" landing and you can sabotage your opponent by swiping their front tires with your back tires. It has so many things going on.
Yup, simple on the surface, but way more technical once you learn everything you can do.
29:50 she’s sick of it with that laugh 😂
Joe you freak dude but i love it..
👍👍👍👍👍
Hey Baby do you want to get double dragon
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Gen Z here, even though I don't play video games like that, but some of my favorites are Sonic The Hedgehog, Mortal Kombat, Mario Kart, God Of War, to name a few, I have older brothers and me and my little brother used to watch them play video games growing up, I also used to own a gameboy and Nintendo DS 😊😊
My favorite game code is from Sonic 2. ⬆ C ⬇ C ⬅ C ➡ C A+B+Start for debug mode.
Come on, Wild Gunman was in Back to the Future 2. That is pretty much the only place I remember seeing it.
I can thank Back To The Future II for me knowing Round 21… cause Marty was a “Crack Shot”, and Elijah Wood complained that you had to use your hands, and his buddy called it a baby’s toy
24:07 panic restaurant i used to play this game but i've never completed it the furthest i got was like level 3 or level 4!
I knew with Round 21 that A was Gunsmoke because the other one, Wild Gunman, was featured in Back to the Future, Part 2.
Xexyz one was hard that I only got right by process of elimination. Xenophobe was totally different type of game, and I remember Xevious being on one of those Namco joysticks you could plug into your television. Never played Xexyz but it looks cool.
Fun fact: Wild Gunmen was in Back to the Future 2
It's like a baby toy
Wait, wait, producer Joe Bereta is *that* Bereta? The Bereta of Barats and Bereta?!?
22:00 Contra, and nobody knew about the Cheat Code for lives??
Up up down down left right left right B A Start
Magical chase, nailed it
"This box art doesn't represent the game"
Me before it's shown: Mega Man **laughs**
Box art shown
Me: Oh nice.
I knew Panic Restraunt just from Game Grumps lol
This was such a fun video and when it came to the video game mashups, I thought the first and third were really easy, but I had NO idea what the second one was lol
In Europe Contra was Probotector. We just had cool robots instead of these dudes who had no armor against horde of aliens.
4:46 -- Oh Mason, I am SOOOOO PROUD of u; no cavities!!😜
I am totally going to use, "You want to get Double-Dragoned?" out of context all the time now! 🤣🤣🤣
I won a copy of Iron Sword in a package of Oreos before I even owned an NES 😂
Knew Metroid from the bullet. But I'm also the oldest Millennial, lol.
Completely forgot about the Megaman cover art. It is somehow worse than the AI art used in this episode.
There's some dope pulls from this ep avgn basically played them all so I guessed them all
27:30 I loved the arcade version of Bump n' Jump. I would play for hours. I also had Superspike V-Ball and Super Dodge Ball. Loved blasting my opponents.
I am Gen X and honestly i guessed all of them right within the first few seconds within each clue.
To the show host, Contra is not where the Konami code originated. That would be Gradius on the NES, where doing the code while the game is paused would fully power up your spacecraft, the Vic Viper.

That KKK reference was crazy 😵
Brother called it out quick
As a gen Xer im am very proud to say that i only missed 8 points.
Same here. I knew most everything. Missed a few like subtitle of Kid Kool or exact order of Mega Man. But rest i knew.
