You should also try replacing the thermal paste with something like PTM 7950. Also, keep in mind that these thermal pads could sweat oil over time. It's not conductive, but it can make a real mess and it will soak into any porous material.
Thermal pads might make the base too hot. Anything around 46C could result in burns. Measure it. Also might make the battery hotter. My advice, use tg pro to monitor battery temps, and if the case bottom is getting too hot, reduce the size of the thermal pads till you find a sweet spot. If you take care this is a great mod
I've done this with cheap ryzen 7 laptop and worked great, got 17% more cinnebench. Also to a cheap laptop with n95, doesn do much but is a lot quieter
I'm not an apple user but very nice tip for those who do. Would have been worth it to have a active fan cooler under the laptop to see how much that would have helped. As always thanks for the good content.
@@Chopper153 because people have been covering this mod for years. It’s nothing new. You’re spreading heat across the entire bottom of the chassis so of course it’ll effect the the battery
i done this on my razer blade along with liquid metal, drop temp by 25 degrees on the cpu and 20 on the gpu after thermal saturation works as a charm. The obly downside is the bottom is untouchable when it been running for a while need an fan blowing at it otherwise it will burn ur skin. I got my with aircon blowing at it aswell drops another 30 degrees on the gpu when i game. drops from running 99 to 40 ish when gaming
@@takojeto it fairly simple, just put the heat pad over the heatpipe or vapour chamber, make sure use a thick pad so it has enough thickness to reach the backplate. With liquidmetal, i just simply confromate coat the entire motherboard with a few coat and put it on
You will cook your battery. Isnt it a bit strange that manufactures doesnt put thermal pads in the devices from the factory, as it clearly helps? Well, theres a reason for that: Thermal pads will move excessive heat from CPU to other important components like battery. As you increase the temperature of the battery, the speed of chemical reaction also increases. It can cause the battery to drain faster and impact the battery's capacity permanently. When temperatures exceed 55 degrees celsius, battery degradation becomes a factor from heat directly.
Great idea! But my OCD is very bothered by the entire mobo to be covered lol why did you stop 3/4 of the way 😂my heart, it hurts lmao I love how easy some crucial fixes can be!
I thought this was bad, cause now you're heating the entire back plate which puts your battery at risk. I've seen other content creators do this and the results show this is not a great idea.
Stop de bs…this is why i will never buy a mba again. My mba 2013 with fan still going strong and next upgrade will be the pro or even better a microsoft surface with one cooling fan at least. Don’t know what apple genius was thinking removing the cooling fans and loosing the market
This will void your warranty in the US. Instead of risking damage to your MacBook, use a simple cooling pad. I was able to bring temps down on my MacBook Air M1 to stop constant throttle.
@@chidorirasenganz Modifying a MacBook in any way will void the warranty. However, you are correct about removing the thermal pads first before sending a MacBook into service under the original warranty.
@@theTechNotice I saw some people who wondered that the thermal pad mod will affect battery temperature. So, I tried the thermal pad mod, then monitored battery temperature with TG pro app(with log file saved) while giving the hard workload on CPU with the benchmarking app(cinebench). This table shows the results after running the benchmark test for 10 minutes, at the same environments eg. ambient temp 30c, the temperature of the laptop when starting 34c (also be used as the cooldown endpoint). With thermal pad modification unmodified Maximum battery temp. 46-48˚C 41-42˚C Time to cool down (to the base temperature) 37m 34s to 39m 24s 24m 40s This means the thermal pad modification will quite badly increase the battery temperature and also significantly delay the time to cool down at least for 10 mins. Moreover, these tests were running just for 10 minutes, if it has to run games or rendering videos for a longer time, I think it will surely shorten the battery life. PS. You may try this experiment by yourself because different environment temperatures may give a different result

Wouldn’t you use thermal imaging to locate the area first?

Using thermal pads won't make the battery hotter because the battery is not thermally connected to the base plate.
@@Chopper153 Clearly you dont know what you are talking about, there are not thermal pads for a reason.

Doesn’t do much. folks have tried
You can use the laptop cooler stand to improve the performance even better right ?
I want to know if long-term use will the thermal pad melt or not?
will that increase the temperature in the battery compartment?
Yep potentially degrading the battery cycle life
Why do you think the battery temperature will increase? Just because some iSheeps are peddling this BS?

Won’t the sticky pad make it harder to open the next time ?
Try the new Snapdragon PC laptops and please do the premiere pro tests. Would love to see your review on them!

You should check out the aluminum heatsink stand MaxTech did a review on. Much simpler and doesn’t degrade your battery like this method does
yeah, i saw that, just a lot more expensive... :)

what if add on botom case

Mobile phones use thin heat resistant foams to prevent the backplate from heating up battery, that might cost a few extra dollars though
Or just buy a roll of heat resistant tape, but that might perform slightly worse than foam
Nice ❤

In apple fashion, they would void your warranty if you did this because they wanna upsell you on a more powerful/expensive laptop.
Nope

it doesn’t void your warranty but you need to remove it before having Apple service the device
