Try any of the actual lovecraft audiooks on youtube. A good narrator, low lighting, a roaring fireplace, a glass of bootleg whiskey, and colt .45 at the ready; perfection.
Lovecraft stories are slow burns. Try The Mountains of Madness or Charles Dexter Ward. 12 hours in with only a few minutes of terror. But thats the charm of lovecraft stories; they arent running gun battles or car chases. They are just highly descriptive, exceptionally realistic tales of a deeper and larger terror than what humanity was ever meant to know. You feel like you are reading some obscure, arcane journal that you were not meant to find at the occult book store in new orleans, but you did and now the shadows in the dark corners of living room at night slither and drip in the corner of your eyes when you try to fall asleep. It is one half poetry, one half madness, and all wrapped in a charming roaring 20’s themed period piece bow.
I'm a sucker for anything Lovecraftian. Unfortunately the author thus far completely missed the mark. I would've enjoyed more without military involvement or the Betty Sue's. The characters are not acting in a manner that makes the reader believe that the protectionists are fighting for the fate of mankind.
@@tamsintarshish3905 His novels are far more entertaining than that of Stephen kings boring books in all honesty, ahh you’re one of those feminazis then. So it’s sexist for him to have a strong main character like the Israeli Mossad operative Adira who’s arguably the most badass character in this novel, while at the same time having a weak little boy like Andy be an incompetent moron in every possible crisis? Well of course he’s going to have attractive female characters in his novels, his main demographic is the male reader who’s a fan of military horror. It’s not like men want to read about women that look and are built like Megan rappinoe, Lizzo, rebel Wilson or Leslie jones. Yes you do have the right to state your garbage opinion, but when you do it on an open forum then one shouldn’t be so triggered.
Yeah the betty sues were a no-go for me. And the other reply above mine is ridiculous. He obviously doesnt know real lovecraft. Hes projecting his affinity for twilight on true horror aficionados like us. But then again, it wasnt the worst lovecraft ive read. I think im biased because lovecraft and the 1920’s are inextricably intertwined. A “modern” version is fun and appreciated, but it is less a love letter to lovecraft, and more of a hollywood interpretation. You might enjoy the fantasy flight games’ novels of arkham horror. They are period accurate to the roarin twenties, BUT they are tainted by endless betty sues, mary sues, and every other type of captain marvel sues haha. 👾
What a great book. Thanks
Such a fantastic book.
Another great book thankyou
Beautiful read.. I'm enjoying the story

lovecraft would love this book!
The part where the protagonist flirts with the chipotle chick would have made him sick.

Couldn't stand the blaspheming😢

I know, but it comes with the territory. Cosmic horror isnt exactly judeo-christian friendly.
Maby the bible is an better option for you
