I grew Kentucky Pole Beans this past summer and they kept growing till the beginning of November. I got quite a few harvests from them. They were really good eating right off the vine as I was picking them.
For my compost pile ive been getting wood chips and saw dust from my local tree cutters , leaf mulch from my cities leaf removal program , coffee grounds by the bucket load at the starbucks stores and disgarded produce from the grocery store and a massive amount of unsold pumkins that I got for close to nothing around the end of haloween . I was able to harvest the pumpkin seeds and dehydrate them as well .
That's some good black gold you got there. I've got similar. I was given an old shredder that ate cornstalks, tomato, potato and sweet potato vines. That stuff composted so fast.
@@debbiecurtis4021 I took these and dehydrated them and then ground them up and put them into canning jars . Pumkin seeds are one of the most nutritious things you can eat and very good for your blood pressure .
I get free used coffee grounds, pigeon and dove poopy bedding, horse poopy bedding, and eggshells for composting. I bake the eggshells and brew with vinegar to make calcium acetate. I use calcium acetate added to rain water on my veg beds. I put the spent eggshells on my raised beds.
One IMPORTANT suggestion about dehydrating: Although it takes a little longer, dehydrating at 115 degrees or below will help retain more nutrients in your greens & other vegetables. Some vegetables require a quick blanching before dehydrating, but most greens, as well as all herbs, do not require it.
Keep doing what you're doing Michael. Its good that you touch on multiple things and not just one or two. There is so much happening that we need to be in the known and with social media at our fingertips, it makes it easy & quick for us to reach out to one another. Keep up the great work! Great vlog!!
Great stuff as usual. May I suggest using grow bags, they are pretty cheap if you look around a little. Also you don't have to empty the soilf out, just, refresh it some. They have the added benifit of 'air prunning'. Keep up the great work. Siochain
Good evening Michael. I've been baking hardtack all day today I've made several different types. I'll stockpile a one year supply of a variety of types of hardtack, so that it's not all the same, and I get a variety of flavours and nutrients.
Yes dehydration does leech out some of the nutrients, but the powders I make is used as soup stock. I didn't think of using in breads for flavor and nutrients. 👍
Michael, Michael quite contrary, how does your garden grow....😉 I have been making my raised beds out of old cedar fencing. I have been growing sun chokes for a few years now. The best part is most people don't know about them and if people come to take from the garden, they will bypass the sun chokes. Another stealth food I grow is chia. I started using grow bags last year for my potatoes, just because I got lazy, but had a great harvest. I have also grown sun flowers, and have started to extract sunflower oil. 👍
New to dehydrating it takes patience and I find it concerning how much it costs to run but helps me to hear you had yours on for like 4 months. I'm extremely glad I have one that's for sure. I'm using a cheapo bonsai one and I'd say its had good results. Sweetcorn Is delicious this way I did onions fine beans and peas thus far. Saves space in my freezer meaning I can now downsize . Saving running costs and more space for shelves!
Thank you. This stuff is useful. I've been watching a year now I think. I don't always agree with certain things, but I greatly appreciate what you do here. You offer solutions for potential future problems.
Thanks Michael - never heard of the the Jerusalem artichokes before but may look into adding it to my growing menu. Stay safe and prepared. Cheers from Alberta!

Not all potatoes are created equal. Two years ago it was so hot here during the summer that most of the bean and pea flowers cooked and died. That year the pink eye potatoes produced a bumper crop, this year they produced the same so they don't seem to care one way or the other. The other varieties didn't produce well at all the hot year and last year the pink eyes still trumped them hard.

Also, we really appreciate you not pimping a thousand products per video like other channels...lol. Some channels you have to shut it off with 5mins left to avoid the run-down of links and sponsored materials. 😒 Thanks for sharing brother. Cheers!

Excellent video on growing high-yield crops in the garden & even specifically WHAT to grow will be helpful to any newer gardeners out there.

That is good to hear. You might be able to get a small solar panel to power it, that over time would pay for itself.
