Lets discuss what I think are 10 great reasons to protest your taxes.

1. It is your money, and I would assume as a property owner you know how to spend your money better than your state government does.
2. Property taxes are the only tax that can be appealed on an annual basis
3. Property Values are Subjective: Subjective factors can include condition, upgrades, quality of construction, among many others.
4. Appraisal districts use mass appraisal models: The number of properties each state has to appraise is too much to handle for the number of appraisers in the state. For example, in Texas there are about 21 Million tax parcels with about 500 appraisers handling on average 40,000 properties a year. or about 100 per day. Even if your property was actually “looked” at. It was simply a drive by appraisal, not a real property appraisal.
5. People are still Human: Humans can disagree on things like valuations, among countless others. Reasonable people will listen to your concerns and try to work with you.
