  • Karpenter Tools is pleased to present a demonstration video showing step by step how to cut roofing components using The Ultimate Roofing Square by Essential Carpenter Tools.
    We were blown away by just how easy and accurately you could do this even with little knowledge or experience with Roofing.
    This fantastic tool is available to buy on our website. We have also made a handy app that does all the working out for you.

    04:34 actually that it is not a perfect fit, it is over the top at the edges, as the top still be a square, and the rafters next to it drop for the slope. ..
    In order to correct it, you must do a ""Hip Drop", it is done at the bird mouth of the hip rafter. ..you deduct more less half of the rafter thickness, in this case a 2x measure 11/2" ...half of that is 3/4" the hip drop is done at the bird mouth with the same square rule .

    I've been chippy for 20 years so just a little constructive criticism. you sould cut the width of the hip at 45° at the corner of the wall plate and measure from that point to the top shoulder of the hip where it strikes the commons ,many thanks and also a lot quicker to make a pattern rafter and make all other commons from it. ( much quicker)

      Thanks Danny appreciate constructive feedback. Our chippy isn't too experienced with roofs but we did our best to demonstrate a great product.

      In my neck of the woods, can't cut the corner of wallplates as there should be a solid corner L-shape steel strap;, have to keep corners because that's what the building defects insurances want which is now built into our regs; sign of the times;

      Care to explain in which way that it is wrong as there are homeowners and the like who buy these products and watch these type of videos so that they can attempt to do their own projects 👍😃

      The angles are ok, but when you measure the hip you need to adjust the seat cut by cutting half the thickness of the hip, cut 22mm off the corner of the wall plate at 45 degrees in this case, or the hip will be to high and shorten the other end.hope that makes sense.

      It's okay minor human error can be rectified nothing to do with the tool itself is very handy I have been using it for a while now in the trade. I know other tradespeople are using its Popular. Tools been around for a while now.

      @@brianbell966 Yes hopefully he reads the comments and resolves it by editing video. Probably find his not in the trade and done this video for his online company shop. It is easy to use tool I would recommend to anyone wanting to take on cut roofs Is do more homework. Especially if working on existing or extending existing to new

    1st of all you got to find a brickie who can build a wall parallel and straight so every rafter can be cut identical in length , good luck with that 🤪

    Good video, thanks. So just to clarify… the user would need to know exactly what the pitch angle is before using it? Also what if the wall plate the birds mouth isn’t perfectly parallel with the ridge board all along the full length? Thanks

      'The working man' lol. How much do you want to pay for it? It'll pay for itself after one job if you are any good at roof joinery. Remember, the customer pays for your time, skill, knowledge and use of tools..

      Hi George as its a new app its hard to find. You can find it following this link on your phone or specifically search for 'essential roof app' and you will find it.
      play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.kempik.roofapp&gl=GB
      By rating the app 5 stars it will become much easier to find for others. Thank you
