37yrs and still only carry 45acp. I've read more ballistic reports than most, people that believe that 9mm is better drank the kool-aid. Small caliber ammo is crap unless you get a perfect shot. I don't care how many inches your 9mm goes through in gel, water jugs, or slices of bologna. Street level, real life shootings prove it sucks. My favorite is watching the news and the reporter says, the victim was shot 8 times and is recovering in a local hospital. That's a sentence you'll never hear if he was hit with a 45! By the way, yesterday I paid 40.00 for 20rds of h.s.t.

My rather cheap 147 grain 9mm hollows out of a small single stack 9mm killed the threat instantly in 2012 saving my life. It works for sure. They all do with decent rounds. Most criminals carry fmj mixed ammo in this case the .45 is much more effective, but very similar with a good hollow point design.

    Thanks for the video.
I own and use a Heckler & Koch 45acp USP and a Heckler & Koch 9mm USP handgun.
Which handgun I use on any day depends on the environment, the situation, my personal preference, and economics. Each handgun has its own pros and cons. One handgun does not replace the other. For personal protection, I prefer to carry 230 grain JHP or FMJ ammo in my 45 or 147 grain JHP or FMJ ammo in my 9mm. However, when I am in the woods, I prefer to carry a 6-inch Smith & Wesson revolver loaded with 180 or 200 grain hard-cast lead 357 magnum ammo.

That’s the ONLY Brand I haven’t had yet is H&K, I see and hear so much about them, I’m going to look at a few options, which do u prefer? 9mm or 45ACP?

      @@Gundamentalz
In the early 1970s, the first firearms I purchased were 357 magnum and 38 special revolvers. During that time period, I avoided semi-automatic pistols because they had a reputation for being unreliable.
In the 1990s, when I decided that I needed semi-automatic pistols, I searched for those that had similar accuracy, reliability, and fire-power to my 6-inch Smith & Wesson 357 revolver and my 5-inch Smith & Wesson 38 special revolver. The 6-inch 45acp H&K USP Elite with 12-round magazines and the 4-inch 9mm H&K USP with 15-round magazines.
Choosing between 9mm and 45acp handguns, is something that I would not want to do. However, if forced to choose only one caliber for a handgun for the rest of my life, I would select a 357 magnum revolver or a 10mm semi-automatic pistol.

@@Gundamentalz 9mm or 45ACp, it doesn't matter when it comes to the HK. 😂Sure, I have a G26 and a G19 (for general purpose sake - aftermarket support is insane) but my favorites are my HKs hands down. But that's just me! 😎

The cross sectional area of the .45 ACP 230-grain bullet is .160 square inches; the cross sectional area of the 124-grain 9mm NATO bullet is .0989 square inches. The 9mm possesses only about 62% of the cross sectional area of the .45 ACP. A more traditional method of establishing the effectiveness of a given bullet is its sectional density, the ratio of bullet mass to the square of its diameter. Generally, the higher the sectional density, the better the penetration of the bullet in living tissue. The sectional density of the FMJ 230-grain .45 ACP bullet is .162; for the 124-grain 9mm NATO bullet, the figure is .144. By this traditional method of establishing a bullet’s terminal effectiveness, the .45 is again superior to the 9mm when both projectiles are of the FMJ type. By any mathematical calculation, given equal penetration, the .45 ACP bullet will create an approximately 40% greater permanent wound cavity volume than a 9x19mm bullet.

To return to the FBI test protocols, it will be remembered that in penetration tests the .45 ACP FMJ scored 100%, while the 9mm achieved a slightly lower 95.5% success rate. While the minimum acceptable penetration for police use was established to be 12 inches, the FBI tests concluded that a penetration of 18 inches was even better. During the tests, however, the FBI assigned no points for penetration beyond the optimum 18 inches. The .45 ACP FMJ bullets penetrated an average depth of greater than 28 inches, while 9x19mm FMJ bullets were a full 4 inches less. Some might consider this over penetration, but for military applications, greater penetration is both acceptable and desirable. As previously mentioned, penetration is only one aspect of bullet effectiveness. The size of the permanent wound cavity must also be considered, and the .45 ACP FMJ bullets in the FBI tests achieved average permanent wound cavities of 3 cubic inches, while the 9mm bullet permanent wound cavities were a full cubic inch less. This significantly increases the prospect of the .45 striking a bone or internal organ. This can be summed up in the FBI’s overall wound value that assigns a value of 2.91 to the military .45 ACP and only 1.65 to the M882 9x19mm. This value is “... the index of demonstrated wounding effectiveness, not potential, as measured by the FBI Ammunition Test results.”

      FBI findings
“Increased bullet mass will increase penetration. Increased velocity will increase penetration but only until the bullet begins to deform, at which point increased velocity decreases penetration. Permanent cavity can be increased by the use of expanding bullets, and/or larger diameter bullets, which have adequate penetration. However, in no case should selection of a bullet be made where bullet expansion is necessary to achieve desired performance.35 Handgun bullets expand in the human target only 60- 70% of the time at best. Damage to the hollow point by hitting bone, glass, or other intervening obstacles can prevent expansion. Clothing fibers can wrap the nose of the bullet in a cocoon like manner and prevent expansion. Insufficient impact velocity caused by short barrels and/or longer range will prevent expansion, as will simple manufacturing variations. Expansion must never be the basis for bullet selection, but considered a bonus when, and if, it occurs.”
      My personal word:
In conclusion: Ballistics gel gives us good data, but it’s important that we look at true FBI calibrated gel. If I’m going with a hollow point defensive round, give me .45 ACP Winchester T-series 230 grain or Speer Gold Dot .45 ACP 200 grain +P. The goal of your round is reliability in expanding (after going through material) and going 12 inches or so in the body to avoid over/under-penetration. At the end of the day though, a bigger bullet is theoretically better (provided you have proper penetration)

Hi G man! I like the channel name and your set background. I have 9mm, 45 acp and shotguns. My Ts-12 has 15 rounds of double odd buck. Here is my combo: ruger pc carbine with a glock 31 rnd mag and a glock 19 with a 31 round mag. In parting I will repeat the old standard that you probably have heard: The 9mm may kill your body but the 45 will destroy your soul. I had to say it since it wasn't in the comments. Would be great to have the people that love shotguns and AR's for home defense. The comments section really gets lively when these debates take place which is a lot of fun. Good luck on your channel.

In my self defense case with a single stack small 9mm with rather inexpensive 147 grain hollow points ended the attackers life immediately with great shot placement . I’d say for every day concealed carry 9mm wins for me.All these calibers work great.. there isn’t much of a difference with good modern hollow points. Vs 2 legged attackers. Criminals actually usually have cheap fmjs. Fmj vs fmj the .45 would be the better round leaving a bigger wound ,and dumping more energy on target before it passes through. Still though can carry much more 9mm so I understand why the government goes with 9mm 124 grain nato equivalent to plus p rounds in combat. Weight/ price , and Logistics as well is on 9mms side. They hope to never need to use their side arms in combat. It’s crazy because 5.56 fmjs in war are moving so fast that they expand/explode ! so pistol hollow points should be legal. You were a bit off on some of the facts but your point was made well. I believe it was LA the bank robbery and 124 grain nato for military 9mm fmj. Empty the magazine/*clip* still good talk.
