Just looking to get back into table top gaming after a very long hiatus. Only heard of Kings of War a couple of days ago and you can definitely count me in!
I wish I had a community for this. Im slowly building one, but people don’t want to explore non gw games. I compete in 40k, but I can't get enough different games. Im trying to make KoW my fluffy fun home game.
Behind the Dwarf Player there’s a shelf with a bunch of space ships including what looks like a ship with other ships docked to it. What are these models and what game are they for?
Have always wanted to have this game but things have always taken priority over it :( keep up the good work guys I love your content you got me into bolt action and wwx with your awesome learn to play videos
What a great game! As soon as the men relaxed the game became 3x more amusing. Props to the great Judge. The only thing you guys lacked were mugs of ale. Dwarves and ogres are known to be heavy drinkers.
Orders ship today. If you don't want the book in paper-form there is a digital PDF version that is available today. I ordered mine today and I'm reading it right now.
So in second edition, you cannot be hindered on the counter charge. In this game, twice you counter charged and were hindered. Was that just a rule mistake, or is that changed in third?
Excellent battle report. Might I ask why anyone would choose to keep their models in movement trays when the game is specifically designed to treat the whole unit as one base?
Seems that the rules are creating a stalemate situation in this game. Where they don't want to approach within range of a shooty unit... is there a stand and shoot charge reaction? Are charge ranges too short? Are shooting distances too short?
There's a lot of staying out of enemy charge and shooting ranges, but they've tried to alleviate that by adding bonus charge distance to some units in order to break stalemates. Flying units in larger games will also do a lot to break up this dynamic as well as they tend to move very fast and will snipe ranged units against overly defensive players.
It's different seeing these developers play each other compared to casual players. These guys seem more cautious... thinking over every possible manoeuvre... measuring so carefully...
I just got the 3rd edition rulebook and Basileans caught my eye the most, aesthetic and models and lore all that. They look like a lot of fun! Never played kings of war yet. They play ok?
The Basileans are an army of crusading knights, warrior nuns, and angels. Actual angels. Every time they take a nerve test and don't get wavering they take a point of damage off. So if you have an inspiring hero nearby (or some inspiring angels) then forcing a reroll on a rout result doesn't only keep them on the table but it takes a point of damage off too. They make up for this by having a lot of low defence units so they can end up taking quite a lot of damage. Essentially their inspiring heroes do more than the inspiring heroes in other armies. They also have a lot of access to healing magic. They're a great army if you really want to feel like you're playing the "good guys". They do get pretty messed up by Nightstalkers stealing all their Inspiring 'though.
It's probably because I haven't actually played but this looks like a bit of a snoozefest. I'm glad I invested in A Song of Ice and Fire instead as that seems more lively and interesting to me. I freely admit that may just be my perception because I've played one and not the other. I also enjoy the GoT theme more myself.
I've played both games and Kings of War has far more depth at the high end of play. But the best part is you can use your models for both systems with some simple set up.
Bring your miniatures over and give it a go! The game is a lot of fun and has a ridiculous amount of depth. It's not about having a lot or rules to remember and catch your opponent by him not knowing a rule your unit has. It's about the movement phase. This is only 750 pts, pushing it up to 2000 makes you able to overlap threat areas, protect your units so that if one gets charged, your opponent pays for it. It's a lot of fun. Plus I've never heard as much cheering or groaning over dice rolls than those over nerve. "26 points of damage on them, that makes it anything but double ones.... and ..... Aaarrrrrrrrg"
Heard alot about this game so I tuned in to see what all the fuzz is about. Sorry to say my first impression is not great. The game and rule set seems fine and all, but the lack of spark in this batrep is slowly putting me to sleep. It's so slow I get the feeling my grandpa would have no problem in keeping up what's going on, and he's been dead for 30 years. The presentation of the models is shot from so far away they may be aswell have been made from play-doh and I wouldn't know. There is constant unnecessary chattering and talking over each other which gets annoying around the 15 minute mark. And most important of all, the players don't seem to enjoy the game. It's like they were forced to be in front of a camera playing races they don't really like in a game they are unsure of. I'm quite sure this isn't so, but this is the impression I get and it really doesn't show me that this is a great game. Suggest investing in a professional video editor, adding some music, and maybe use the 3rd person not playing as a commentator explaining rules and tactics while the players stay quiet instead of just standing standing there with his beard. Focus on presentation a bit more and I'm sure your playerbase will grow a tad bit faster. Good luck guys!
This game had my interest for a while. But I must admit, after watching this gameplay, that interest is somewhat diminished. The game just seems rather...bland. You trade units back and forth, not really killing anything, and a unit is defeated based on a dice roll at the end of each turn. And charging is almost risk-free to the charger, since if you defeat the opponent you just steamroll them with no chance of taking any casualties yourself. To me it seems like there is a severe lack of strategic depth, if this is also the overall way that the game plays at higher point levels.
It can see that way at first glance Mads. But having played it a good amount, I can tell you that it is an ultimate chess match on the table. You have to cover your units so that your opponent has to pay for any charge they make. Also block double charges and force hinder charges. You can't win by just building a broken list, but building a list that supports itself is super important. The strategic depth is more than any other war game I've played. The game is won in the movement phase. Also to note, these guys miss some rules here, which is funny cause they are from mantic. But doing things live is hard to not miss something.

Love that Mantic is still growing the game and perfecting it. It has just recently started to finally take root near where I live.
Always good to see Rob be considerate of the viewers at home by allowing himself to be clouted mightily into an amicable draw.
Interesting!! Looking at branching out into Kings of War from AoS, loving the minis! RELEASE THE BADGERS!
Do it. 100% It's a great gamewith a great community and getting better still.
So much better with formations than with these single models.
Absolutely love Gerry's subtle support for the system . . . :)

0:40 The world's largest Dropfleet Commander space station gathering dust on a shelf in the background there is quite thoroughly depressing to me.
Super excited for 3rd, I miss good rank and flank games...
Ninth Age is still quite a Good R&F game
Great to see the dynamics of the new edition. Thanks
I am loving this game even more now than after the last video you guys did, cant wait for my free box
Thanks for the playthru. Thinking about getting this for my boys at Christmas.
love the golem mini! the terrain setup is really good too!
Curious to see which armies will be winning 3rd Ed tournies...clearly there’ll be some shaking up of the order
Like what I'm seeing in 3rd edition, waiting for the release!
Looking forward to 3rd edition. Only played 2nd a handful of times but really enjoyed it.
Fun battle report. Fast and furious. A nice tense game even at 750pts.
I'm just getting in to the game now (and infecting a couple friends with it too)... can't wait to play!
So glad to see a smaller points game. Was wondering how the game looked at sub 2000 points.
Nice batrep! Love that game , loved the annoying goblins ! Can't wait for third edition to be released! Hail from France!
brought some undead soul reaver infintary from this game for my D&D game, this seems cool as well.
I love goblin riders. Models are really nice
please, what is the spaceship we see at 4:44 on th left ? the big one with radiators on aft, thanks
Looks like fun. I will check this out!
I don't know if this has already been mentioned but the rule book says that units that are counter charging are never disordered even by terrain
Love the look of that titan!
Gerry mcCabe is there a ‘spam’ rule in KoW like in 40k? E.g. no more of 3 units of the same type unless they are core?
Gerry mcCabe thanks! Just helps me to plan what to build and buy down the line.
I wish I had a community for this. Im slowly building one, but people don’t want to explore non gw games. I compete in 40k, but I can't get enough different games. Im trying to make KoW my fluffy fun home game.
That looks very interesting I’m gonna get into the game since I already got an army that I used for 9th age

My guess is dropfleet commander
Somewhat worrisome how easily the dwarves seem to die and not do much damage back... *glances at dwarf army accidentally ready for KoW on the shelf*
I really need to get into Kings of War. With this third edition I think this might finally be the time. Thanks for this play through vide!
I'm thinking the same thing. Wanting to paint some abyssals.
Yes! Those look so cool
Have always wanted to have this game but things have always taken priority over it :( keep up the good work guys I love your content you got me into bolt action and wwx with your awesome learn to play videos
Thanks for the video! Maybe Matt should play the dwarves.....
What a great game! As soon as the men relaxed the game became 3x more amusing. Props to the great Judge. The only thing you guys lacked were mugs of ale. Dwarves and ogres are known to be heavy drinkers.
The ogres charging off the hill into the earth elemental should have gainer +1 thunderous, doing 3 more wounds.
Those red dice roll HOT!
Any word on an actual release date for the book?

Reusing models from other games, mostly
Kings of War is amazing!
Amicable draw…need a tshirt!
Rob is an inspiration.

I want to paint that titan!
Best time to start a new army!
I want this game so much. I am going to try and get it next month, but I am not sure.
What's being added to the ogres
22:55 waaait, isn't that illegal?
Why does mantic not demo the game with the movement trays they sell on their web site?
silvarknite7 don’t know? I’ve just ordered a load of 3mm mdf, lipped movement trays from warbases.

I cant wait to receive my rulebook!!!
"I can see why inspiring's quite so good now."
Clearly Rob hasn't played against Basileans yet :).

I love this game 😍
Rulebook I need a rulebook and a glorious opponent 💪
I don't like that in this game you don't remove your dead units, I don't like the damage counters
I would like to get back into miniature wargames. Are Kingdoms of Men still a playable army in new edition?
Yes and KOW is dirt Cheap compared to GW
I want his shirt
I love KoW
"Stupid game!" After a poor dice roll. That's how you know this gane is good!!

Calling his dice roll's is really starting to get annoying
Not gonna lie, the dwarf player is pretty awful
