  • Scott goes deep into the wilderness on his KTM 1090 and is accompanied by Dennis who gets a bit more adventure than he bargained for.

    Scott, loved the hilarious and instructional commentary. Nice to see the 1050 being bashed around again. See you at the gathering.

    I love having two dedicated bikes: my 350 EXC-F for short pavement rides and technical trails, and my 1090 R for a mix of high speed pavement and mild to moderate off-road riding. After 60+ years of riding motorcycles, one bike can never do it all for me.

    “Lookat this, oy, oy, oy!” Haha. Love the banter. I don’t know how anyone can ride this extreme terrain and just carry on a dialog.

    Had a 1090 for a short bit but at 5’ 9” and intermediate skills at best it was too much a beast for me. Love the LC8 motor and it was fabulous on-road. Now have a 2019 690 for the more challenging adventures.

      I hear ya. I now ride a 790 Rally and I am in LOVE! 1090 is up for sale this spring.

      @Tim Brandt I am a bit of a 790 expert now. 20,000 km and the big problems are valves. Blew through 2 sets already, all dust related, despite my anti-dust efforts. More on this in the comping months. Bike is almost fixed, again. :/

    Thanks for the nice video , I think 1090 is amazing bike, even in 2024 is a good compromise between 790/890 with many problems and 1290 so expensive and more heavy . want buy him

    Haha, first view and comment. Greetings from Vancouver island, loving the channel. Unfortunately unable to make it over for the Gathering this week, but hope I can make it next year. Might have to venture over there sooner anyways to check out some of your routes. Safe riding to everyone this week!

    If I was younger, single and loaded with cash, I'd move there, buy a 1090 Hephalump or Triumph Earth Shaker XE and ride some of these tracks! Bloody ripper stuff once again...

    Nice vid! Picking up a 2018 1090R soon to complement my 390 Adventure. Just an observation: That Garmin Sat comm may not do you much good if you have an off and are injured....most likely you won't be able to reach it. I keep mine on my jacket for that reason.

    About hour and a half to the nearest trail in Crowsnest.

    Yep, it's more capable than little bike riders give it credit for, until they can't catch me!
    I love my dirty 1090R, Gizmo has 20k miles now. I wore out a 990 ADV with 85k before this!

    He doesn’t have the suspension adjusted correctly in this vid. The suspension is very powerful. Just requires the prepoad and compression damper clicks in particular adjusted right. I’m 225 and zero issues with this suspension. I might beef up the fork springs only but it’s much better than TH-cam video illudes.

    One hour out of town is a long way to go for a trail? I need to move to Vernon! No Gathering for me either this time around, I'd love to attend at some point, I'll definitely be making the trip West to Vernon to check out these great trails, keep the videos coming, I love'm Do you think riding your 501 is improving your skill on 'the missile'?

    Awesome vid dude, fellow 1090 owner from Vancouver island. Its such a versatile bike, has no problems munching miles on the annoying hard stuff or tearing up the forest roads and more tech stuff (once you are used to its size and weight).
    I know this vid is old and you may have mentioned this and I missed it, but to slow down the tech sections consider going to a 45 tooth in the rear. Maybe even a 16 up front but I cannot speak to this. You'll need a 120 or longer chain to make it work (or flip the blocks and move the wheel up, but watch tire clearence) as the 118 is a little lot tight.

    Canadian designed Zoleo is equivalent to the Garmin spot mini for less money and gives you Iridium satellite texting and SOS features etc in case you get into trouble while out of cell range. Cheap insurance. I was up e biking in West Van and there's no cell coverage even with multi million dollar homes right beside you. I'm sure you have zero cell coverage when you're out and about. They will find your bones eventually if things go sideways and you didn't have one.

    Scott, great video and riding! What mode are you running on the 1090 when doing such trails? Do you switch to offroad or keep it in Sprort? Also I assume MTC and ABS is off judging by the dash.

    • @DirtChimps
      @DirtChimps  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry I missed this question. I almost always run it in sport because it is so silly fun. On this challenging route I likely ran off road mode fr or the hard bits, but I don't actually remember. Oddly, off road mode on my new bike (a 790) is EXTREMELY passive, way more so than on the 1090. MTC and ABS are off for sure! Cheers!

    Love the Chanel, quick question I just got a 1090 my self but I can’t seem to be able to adjust the clutch engagement point closer to the bars any more, I have tighten the adjustment screw all it will go. Is there any other adjustments or just new levers? I see your engagement point is closer to you than mine….any help would be awesome, haven’t found much online.

    • @DirtChimps

      You are more handy that we are. I would be taking the bike to Riders Edge Suspension and they would make this sort of adjustment for me. Sorry i am not more help!

    Hi guys,
    I have just discovered your videos. So cool !
    Are the Triumph 1200 XE and the KTM 1090r an be compared?
    Wich is the funniest to ride ?

    • @VernonSnowMX
      @VernonSnowMX 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      They are very different bikes. The 1200 XE is less capable off road and when on road it is a pile of wind in your face. The 1200 XE is a party to drive though, just less sensible in pretty much every way. :P We're glad you found us!

    Do you find with your 1090 you get a lot of chain slap when you get into rough stuff?

    • @DirtChimps
      @DirtChimps  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, it is quite noisy. So is my 790. I lubed it, and added a little tension, and it is a bit quieter now.

      I's all about how, and what, you ride, right? Somedays we are "ON" and need more. My new bike, a KTM 790 Rally with fancy suspension, makes the point in my case. Sometimes I actually do use more that what is available stock. I hop eyou enjoy our other videos and see how we have gown into these big bikes in enduro conditions.
