How bizzare - I added this to watch later a few days ago then today my speaking partner sent me a video *about* mistranslations in English. I realised my response could translate to "This video is a mistake/typo" instead of *about typos* and had to search online for について. Just went through my watch later videos and now I've got a perfect guide for it!

"As for me, regarding Kyoto, I'm quite detailed" My number one difficulty when learning Japanese is trying to make sense of these jumbled halfway translations. It's so unnatural and makes grammar feel so much more complicated than it actually is.
I suppose you could look at it in that way. For me it in fact does the opposite and greatly simplifies it all! I'd much rather look at exactly what the language is doing than find an English sentence that fits what I want comfortably. Unfortunately if you try to fit Japanese perfectly into English you'll lose stuff along the way which then opens up for confusion. Like "Why は not が?" Why X not X? etc But if you look at it literally and ALSO know what it means in cleaner English, you get the best of both worlds and learn more about the function of Japanese itself, rather than just learning English translations.
It might just be a me thing, it's hard for me to wrap my head around what something like "as for regarding" is supposed to convey. But I still ended up getting a feel for how this is used by the end of the video so it doesn't matter too much. I personally see this as something like the Japanese equivalent to "of" By the way thank you for these videos. Every upload is a joy.

It takes a while to get used to Japanese to the point where looking at it literally just clicks haha but it sure beats the frustration of learning the wrong meaning (atleast I felt that way when learning 'english' meanings) Yeah hehe that's the plan! Regardless of how you go by it, as long as you can get more familiar with the language in your own way that's all that matters! :D Thanks! I'm glad you enjoy the channel! I knew nothing about the other variants of this word. Either I was oblivious of their existens or I never came across them. The former is probably correct
I think was already covered in a previous N3 grammar episode? Has the series been rebooted? I must say I miss the old 4 x grammar points per video format. I love the channel so don't take this as anything other than adding a constructive opinion to the pile. Maybe everyone else likes this better. Thanks for all your amazing videos, my Japanese learning didn't really lift-off until I found game gengo!
So this is all still new grammar, I have a huge list of everything and just working through it all. Ive changed to this format so I can get content out much more frequently and also make the videos much more clickable and watchable. While the 4x was nice, it allllllllllways performed absolutely terribly. This style already has doubled what the previous style did. So more frequent + better performing :) the videos are the same style though, only change is im in the video
Ah, my mistake, it was briefly mentioned in #20 but not covered. Still made it into my notes :) I must have been having a particularly disciplined day! Thanks for taking the time to explain. And congrats on full-time.
