What a pair! Dave's voice is the sexiest instrument being played. Thile's mandolin can't resist that high mountain voice. It's like Dave's voice is the reincarnation of the mandolin. Those two are so intense, it's like nuclear hillbilly energy.
Christopher "Midas" Thile, turning everything he touches into gold, as usual. And seriously, have you ever heard anyone with as unique a voice-and as much of a throwback voice-as Michael Daves? This stuff is just terrific.
How have I gone so long without hearing about these guys. This is better than any country music that has been on the charts for the last 9 years, ESPECIALLY the last 5 years.
It cracks me up that Michael's playing an old True-Tone guitar worth maybe $150 while Chris is playing a Lloyd Loar mandolin worth $150,000. But they're both such great players and great musicians they could both make anything sound good.
And from what I've read and seen, Chris Thile doesn't care. He was awarded 100k for the McArthur genius award and spent it on a Lloyd loar. As a musician, I would've too.
Anyone know what kind of guitar that is? Sounds pretty good for something that seems to have a screwed on pickguard and painted trim. But also some kind of adjustable neck.
That's a 1950s True Tone. Some of them can be quite nice sounding. Check out this link for pictures: www.myrareguitars.com/getting-elmore-james-sound-cheap

Awesome !!!
Thile's hip shaking brings me great joy. That and the unbridled awesomeness of this duo.
I'm going to Nashville next week to see these amazing men! OMG
Very seldom do I yell out loud when watching youtube, but this got a "whoop" out of me--just top notch!
Just listened to the NPR Tiny Desk Concert and had to come here so I could listen to more!! I'm off to get the album...Awesome!!
Just saw you guys like 2 hours ago!!! Got a picture and everything ! Great Night! For Sure!
Awesome! Talented musicians.
I can't listen to this without kicking up my heels! This is too damn hot! :-) I'm dancing around more that Chris Thile.

Two instruments and a lot of talent.
As good as it gets. I feel very excited about this.

Once you find your instrument, it doesn't matter what it costs. It's yours and you play the devil out of it.
Reaaally cool rithmic playing!
Wow...never doubt Thile.
from now on.. FROM NOW OOOON
Caraaazzzyyyy!
hopefuly, there will be another one :-)
wow his voice
No I think they were just communicating through the music and making sure they were harmonizing each others voices.
I love it so much.. can't decide if this is meant to be a parody of or an homage to Del McCoury. Excellent sound either way.
a deep depression set in when i saw that the tour doesnt reach us homegrowns... sad day in the west
TIMING IS INCREDIBLE NOT TO MENTION TALENT💖
Astonishing duet at 1:50.
Gripping your pillow tiiight
Done got the dropjaw...
by the way this song is amazing
are they just using that main microphone to amplify the instruments?
bill grant and deliah bell turned me on to this song
These are not mortals.
@ChuckTrebloc Flight of the Conchords..
@superjoffen Chris Thile looks like a sexy Jude Law. And Jude Law is already sexy so...Haha.

Bears a striking resemblance to my old Stella. lol.
@ChuckTrebloc FOTC
@ChuckTrebloc tell me about it, i am a hetero guy :-D
Typical bluegrass amplification is a single mike that the musicians play and sing into. Mike Daves doesnt need a mike for his voice to be heard.
Room for everyone in bluegrass, check out some of the looks mike and chris give eachother in other video bud... im pretty sure theyre lovers.
Yeah, their fantastic, but the tuner on the peghead kinda ruins the 1950's zeitgeist. Pet peeve I guess.
pointless comment.
